In short
- What is on offer: 38 English-taught business and management programmes for 2027/28 in our catalogue, at 28 Italian public universities: 32 two-year master's and 6 three-year bachelor's. 8 of them are management engineering degrees; at Florence and Trento these include supply chain or logistics courses.
- Who ranks: Politecnico di Milano is the top public university in Italy for Business and Management Studies, at 66 (tied) in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, followed by Bologna at 126 (tied). Private business schools are left out of this guide.
- Price: a business degree at a public university can be tuition-free for eligible students with a DSU grant. Without one, Milan's Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship cost a family with income in India €402 in 2026/27, about ₹43,900 at the ECB rate of 25 September 2026 (€1 = ₹109.2605).
- Entry: no GMAT is compulsory and none of the programme pages we reopened asks for work experience. Credits decide: Trento's International Management wanted 60 in economics, business, statistics and law for 2026/27.
- ApplyAZ, an independent study-in-Italy consultancy with offices in Milan and India, works only with Italian public universities and takes no commission from them. For eligible students, we handle the applications, Universitaly pre-enrolment, the DSU scholarship application and the visa file.

Thirty-eight, according to our catalogue on 28 September 2026: 32 master's and 6 bachelor's at 28 public universities, with Trento running 4. Each one is listed on Universitaly with English as its only teaching language. The condition is that you want a public university, because private business schools are not included.
What counts as business and management here. We list an English-only programme when its title names business, management, administration, marketing, entrepreneurship or organisation, and it sits in a business, economics or management engineering class (LM-77, LM-56, LM-76 and LM-31, or L-18 and L-9 at bachelor's level). Finance-class degrees such as Florence's Finance and Risk Management (LM-16) stay in our finance guide.
Tourism-class degrees (LM-49) sit in our hospitality and tourism guide, and business analytics master's from data science classes sit in the data science guide. Our catalogue also has 12 business programmes listed with more than one teaching language, such as Sapienza's Business Management, which we leave out.

Which Italian public universities rank best for business and management?
Politecnico di Milano and Bologna, well ahead of the rest. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 for Business and Management Studies, Politecnico di Milano is 66 (tied) and Bologna 126 (tied). The condition: only 8 of the 14 ranked public universities run an English-only business programme in our catalogue.
| University | QS by Subject 2026, Business and Management Studies | English-taught business and management programmes in our catalogue |
|---|---|---|
| Polytechnic University of Milan | 66 (tied) | 0. |
| University of Bologna | 126 (tied) | 3. |
| Sapienza University of Rome | 251 to 300 | 2. |
| Polytechnic University of Turin | 351 to 400 | 0. |
| Ca’ Foscari University of Venice | 401 to 450 | 0. |
| University of Rome Tor Vergata | 401 to 450 | 1. |
| University of Padua | 401 to 450 | 1. |
| University of Turin | 451 to 500 | 1. |
| Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa | 501 to 550 | 0. |
| University of Florence | 501 to 550 | 1. |
| University of Milan | 501 to 550 | 1. |
| University of Naples Federico II | 501 to 550 | 0. |
| University of Milan-Bicocca | 551 to 600 | 0. |
| University of Trento | 551 to 600 | 4. |
Private universities ranked for this subject are excluded, as everywhere on our site. Politecnico di Milano has no English-only business or management degree in our catalogue, so its count is zero. Most of our business programmes sit at universities not ranked for this subject, including Bergamo, Parma, Udine and Pavia.
Can you study supply chain management or logistics in Italy in English?
Yes, though not as a separately named degree in our catalogue. Supply chain sits inside broader programmes: Tor Vergata's Business Administration runs a Supply Chain Management track, and Florence's Management Engineering teaches Supply Chain Management and Operations Management and Lean Production, 6 credits each, according to the University of Florence.
| Programme | Where supply chain and logistics sit | Who it suits | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business Administration, Tor Vergata | Supply Chain Management track, preparing procurement managers, distribution specialists, junior buyers and category managers. | Business, commerce and economics graduates | Tor Vergata, About BA. |
| Management Engineering, Florence | Courses in supply chain management, operations and lean production, and industrial asset management, in the Smart Industry curriculum and two double degrees. | Engineering graduates (L-8, L-9) | Florence, programme page. |
| Management and Industrial Systems Engineering, Trento | Production, logistics and management of industrial systems, with a management and digitalisation track. 25 places for non-EU applicants living abroad in 2026/27. | Engineering graduates | Trento, programme page. |
| Other management engineering master's: Management Engineering (Sapienza University of Rome), Management Engineering (University of Palermo), Engineering Management (University of Perugia), Management Engineering (University of Salento), Engineering Management (University of Siena) | English-only management engineering, which we check course by course for supply chain and operations content. | Engineering graduates | ApplyAZ catalogue. |
Specialist one-year supply chain courses are mostly masters universitari or private business school programmes, and we do not recommend private schools. A two-year laurea magistrale keeps the DSU grant open to you, which a one-year master universitario does not. Engineering graduates can compare management engineering with the wider options in our MS in Italy guide.
What credits do business and management master's ask for?
Usually a set number in business, economics and quantitative subjects. Bologna's International Management takes graduates of seven degree classes directly, or others holding 36 credits in listed economics, statistics and business areas. Trento's International Management asked for 60 credits for 2026/27, and Milan's Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for 24.
| Programme | Credit rule and selection in the latest call | Source |
|---|---|---|
| International Management, Bologna | Degree classes L-8, L-9, L-16, L-18, L-33, L-36 or L-41, or 36 credits in listed areas. CV phase and interview, each scored out of 100 with 60 to pass, and 120 out of 200 overall; GMAT or GRE adds up to 8 points. 70 places, 30 of them for non-EU citizens resident abroad (2026/27). | Bologna, how to enrol. |
| International Management, Trento | 60 credits across economics, business, statistics and private law (SECS-P/01, P/02, P/07, P/08, SECS-S/01, S/06, IUS/01). English at B2. 30 places for non-EU citizens living abroad; round closed 4 March 2026 for 2026/27. | Trento, admission for non-Europeans. |
| Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Milan | For other backgrounds, 24 credits: 12 in business or management, 6 in economics, 6 in maths and statistics. Online admission test in English; non-EU visa applicants applied by 30 April 2026 for 2026/27. | Milan, programme page. |
| Management Engineering, Florence | An engineering bachelor's (L-8 or L-9) including 15 credits in maths, 6 in economics or business and 6 in industrial management. English at B2. | Florence, programme page. |
A three-year bachelor's at EQF level 6 is the national floor for a laurea magistrale under the MUR circular for 2026/27 and 2027/28. The university then judges your credits. We match your marksheets to each rule before you apply, so no application is wasted on a credit gap.
Do you need GMAT or work experience for a management master's in Italy?
Neither is required at the public universities in our catalogue. Where GMAT appears it is optional or a bonus: Bologna gives up to 8 points for it, and Pavia's catalogue entry says a score over 550 brings direct admission. None of the five programme pages we reopened, including Bologna and Milan, asks for work experience.
MBAs work differently: Bologna's Global MBA, for example, asks for three years of work experience. If you already have that experience, compare the MBA in Italy guide and the list of MBA colleges at public universities. For recent graduates, our Master in Management guide is the closer match.

How much does a business degree cost at an Italian public university?
In 2026/27, from €402 to €2,998 a year at the three universities below, for a family with income in India. The University of Milan's fixed amount for Group A countries sits at the bottom and Padua's fixed fee for its economics school at the top. These are the universities' own published 2026/27 rules.
| Programme | Yearly fee 2026/27 (family income abroad) | In INR | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Milan | €402 | about ₹43,900 | €146 first instalment plus €256 (Area B), for Group A countries such as India (Art. 6). |
| Management and Economics, Bologna | €1,157.04 | about ₹1.26 lakh | Reduced fixed fee for non-OECD citizens, first cycle. |
| International Management, Bologna | €1,357.04 | about ₹1.48 lakh | Reduced fixed fee for non-OECD citizens, second cycle. |
| Management for Sustainable Firms, Padua | €2,998 | about ₹3.28 lakh | €2,790 Group A fixed fee plus €192 regional fee and €16 stamp duty. |
Where these come from: Milan's fee rules, Bologna's non-OECD flat fee and Padua's fee call, all for 2026/27. Fee rules for 2027/28 are pending until the summer before the year.
The regional DSU grant can outweigh these fees. For 2026/27, the MUR decree 175 of 10 February 2026 set the minimum at €7,171.11 for a student living away from home, €4,190.71 for a commuter and €2,890.16 for one living at home. Our DSU scholarship guide shows each region's call, and we prepare the application.
What jobs do business and management graduates in Italy get?
Commerce, consulting and industry lead. AlmaLaurea's 2026 report (survey year 2025) shows 79.2% of economics-group bachelor's graduates who did not go on to further study in work one year later, 22.7% of those employed in commerce. The condition: AlmaLaurea has no business-only group, so business and economics are counted together.
| AlmaLaurea, survey 2025, one year after graduating | Economics group, bachelor's (no further study) | Industrial and information engineering group, two-year master's |
|---|---|---|
| Graduates covered | 5,681 | 16,625. |
| Employment rate | 79.2% | 93.6%. |
| Average net monthly pay | €1,488 (about ₹1.63 lakh) | €1,787 (about ₹1.95 lakh). |
| Average months to first job | 3.5 | 2.3. |
| Working in industry | 20.0% | 51.3%. |
| Working in commerce | 22.7% | 1.9%. |
| Working in consulting | 18.1% | 10.6%. |
Sources: AlmaLaurea, economics group, first cycle and AlmaLaurea, industrial and information engineering group, laurea magistrale, the group that includes management engineering.
Programme pages name the roles. Milan says its graduates work as managers in manufacturing and service companies and large retailers, as entrepreneurs and as consultants. Tor Vergata ties its Business Administration tracks to controllers and auditors, HR managers, brand and marketing managers, and supply chain experts.
Bologna prepares graduates of Innovation and Organisation of Culture and the Arts as cultural project managers, managers of cultural organisations and fundraisers. Florence aims its management engineers at manufacturing and service firms going through digital change.
Business bachelor's, MIM, MBA or management engineering: which route fits you?
It depends on where you are now. After Class XII, look at the 6 bachelor's; after a business or commerce degree, the 25 management master's; after an engineering degree, the 7 management engineering master's. An MBA suits graduates with several years of work, and our MBA guide covers it separately.
Two titles can mislead. The "Master in Business Administration" degrees at Tor Vergata and Turin are two-year laurea magistrale degrees in class LM-77, not MBAs. Trento's Management is taught in English and Italian, according to the university, so we confirm which track runs in English before you apply.
Can you study business in Italy after Class XII?
Yes: our catalogue lists 6 English-taught business and management bachelor's open to Class XII graduates, since the MUR circular accepts 12 years of schooling for first-cycle entry. Tests vary: Pisa takes TOLC-E or SAT, Bari's management engineering uses TOLC-I or CEnT, and Brescia, Teramo and Udine use a CISIA CEnT test to check your level without ranking you.
| Bachelor's | University | Admission test or selection |
|---|---|---|
| Management Engineering for Innovation | Polytechnic University of Bari | TOLC-I or CEnT. |
| Management and Economics | University of Bologna | SAT, ranked for limited places (20 for non-EU applicants living abroad, first intake only, 2026/27; Forlì campus). |
| Business and Economics | University of Brescia | CEnT-S (maths section, not selective). |
| Management for Business and Economics | University of Pisa | TOLC-E or SAT (CEnT, GMAT or ACT also accepted). |
| Business Management | University of Teramo | None that ranks you: the TOLC CEnT is required but does not affect admission. |
| Management & Business Analytics | University of Udine | CEnT-S test to check your starting level (not used to rank applicants). |
The BBA in Italy guide compares these bachelor's with the economics ones, and our after-12th guide explains which boards and subjects count.
When should you apply for a 2027/28 business master's?
Start this autumn: at Padua, the first round for 2027/28 runs from 15 September to 15 November 2026. For 2026/27, Trento closed its non-EU rounds on 4 March 2026, and Milan's Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship took visa applicants until 30 April 2026. Visa applications for 2027/28 close on 31 October 2027 (Universitaly).
Classes begin in September or October 2027, and Padua does not allow direct entry in the second semester. We plan your applications around the earliest round on your shortlist, so an early call never catches you out.
Reality check
Out of anyone's hands but theirs. Admission belongs to the university, the DSU grant to the region and the visa to the consulate. As Universitaly puts it, a validated pre-enrolment does not secure a visa appointment, let alone a visa.
Our part. For eligible students we draw up a shortlist of English-taught programmes at public universities, write your CV in a European format and a statement of purpose for each programme, and submit the applications. Universitaly pre-enrolment, the DSU application and the visa file, interview practice included, are ours to handle as well.
Where applicants slip, and the cost.
- Waiting for spring: Trento's 2026/27 non-EU rounds closed on 4 March, so a late start meant a lost year.
- Choosing a one-year supply chain master universitario: regional DSU calls do not cover it, so the grant is lost.
- Reading "Business Administration" as an MBA and applying with the wrong expectations about length and entry.
- Missing the DSU call: a grant of at least €7,171.11 for students living away from home disappears for the year.
Begin with the eligibility check. If you are eligible, you book a one-to-one consultation with one of our Italy experts, and we take it from there, handling everything.
Frequently asked questions
Is management engineering a business degree?
It is an engineering degree with a business core. Florence's LM-31 programme, for example, combines supply chain management, operations and lean production and project management with engineering subjects, and asks for an engineering bachelor's with at least 15 maths credits. Business graduates without engineering usually fit LM-77 management master's better.
Are the Business Administration master's at Tor Vergata and Turin MBAs?
No: both are two-year laurea magistrale degrees in class LM-77, open to recent graduates, and they qualify for regional DSU calls. Bologna's Global MBA, by contrast, is a first-level professional master of 60 ECTS that asks for three years of work experience. Our MBA guide compares the two paths.
Can I study marketing in English at an Italian public university?
Yes: Bergamo runs International Management and Marketing and Udine runs International Marketing, Management and Organisation, both taught only in English. Tor Vergata's Business Administration also has a Marketing and Sales track that trains account, brand and marketing managers. We check which of the three fits your degree.
Can I study fashion or luxury management at a public university?
Parthenope University of Naples offers Fashion, Art and Food Management in English, a two-year LM-77 master's. It is the only fashion-related management degree in our English-only catalogue. Luxury management courses at private schools are outside the scope of this guide.
Why are tourism management degrees not in this list?
Degrees in the tourism class LM-49, such as Ca' Foscari's Tourism Management and Sustainability, are covered in our hospitality and tourism guide. Sassari's Innovation Management for Sustainable Tourism stays here because it sits in the business class LM-77. We sort each programme by its degree class, not only its title.
Can I study business analytics in Italy in English?
Yes, in two ways. Udine's Management and Business Analytics is an English-taught bachelor's in class L-18. At master's level, analytics degrees such as Parma's Data Science for Management belong to data science classes, so our data science guide lists them.
What does ApplyAZ do for a business applicant?
For eligible students we build a shortlist of 20 to 30 English-taught programmes at public universities, write your European CV and a statement of purpose for each programme, and file the applications. Universitaly pre-enrolment, your DSU scholarship claim and the visa file follow, and one named person owns each stage.
