Degree and credit rule
When you apply, you must already hold a bachelor's degree in Italian class L-8 (information engineering) or L-9 (industrial engineering), or a foreign degree recognised as eligible, with at least 155 graded CFU. You also need minimum credits in these areas: [1]
- Mathematics for management engineering: at least 15 CFU in statistics, probability, operations research or systems theory
- Economics and business management: at least 6 CFU
- Industrial plants and production technologies: at least 6 CFU
- Economics and production together: at least 21 CFU
- Energy engineering: at least 6 CFU in subjects on thermal or electrical energy, such as applied thermodynamics, energy systems, fluid machines or electrical engineering
What this means for your transcript
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Industrial, Production or Electrical Engineering whose transcript shows statistics or operations research, an industrial economics or management unit, and manufacturing and energy units.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics or Civil Engineering, which may cover the maths block but often has few credits in production technologies, economics or energy.
- Often short: a BBA, B.Com, BCA or B.Sc. These are not engineering degrees comparable to classes L-8 or L-9 and usually lack the production and energy blocks.
Credits on South Asian transcripts are not the same unit as Italian CFU, so we map each course to the areas above before you apply. [1]

Selection and ranking
There is no entrance test. Your grade point average must be above the minimum set for the country where you studied, listed in an annex to the call; below that minimum the application is rejected automatically. Eligible applicants are ranked on a normalised GPA, calculated with country-specific parameters that include the maximum grade possible at your university. Ties go to the younger candidate. [1]
Each call has separate rankings for EU and equivalent, non-EU and Marco Polo students. For 2026/27 there were 80 places for EU and equivalent students, 18 for non-EU students (one of them part-time) and 2 for Marco Polo students, divided across the calls. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
Non-EU applicants living abroad could apply only in the first call. [1]
- First call (EU, non-EU and Marco Polo): applications closed at 23:59 Italian time on 27 July 2026, the ranking list came out on 6 August 2026 and enrolment ran from 6 to 25 August 2026. It offered 18 non-EU places, 2 Marco Polo places and 40 EU places.
- Later calls: closing on 13 October 2026, 24 November 2026 and, if places remain, 9 February 2027, all reserved for EU and equivalent students.
The first call had no further running of its ranking list, and unfilled places moved to the second call. The next call sets the 2027/28 dates. [1]

About the programme
Management Engineering is a two-year international master's degree in class LM-31 (management engineering) at the University of Florence, worth 120 ECTS and taught in English. How the programme is taught
Teaching combines lectures, tutorials and supervised group work such as simulations, case analysis and design projects, plus technical visits. The programme uses a blended, flipped-classroom approach: between 10% and 33% of non-laboratory credits may be delivered online, while courses keep significant classroom activity. In Smart Industry the second year includes a 12 ECTS traineeship in a company or research centre and a 12 ECTS thesis, usually on an industrial project. An Honours Programme in Operations and Supply Chain Management runs with partner companies through competitive calls.
