About the programme
International Management is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-77, business and economics) worth 120 ECTS, taught entirely in English by the Marco Biagi Department of Economics of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) in Modena. It trains graduates to take managerial and operational roles in the international growth of companies, institutions and organisations.
The department links the degree to the strong export focus of the local economy, driven by small and medium-sized manufacturers. It suits business and economics graduates who want to analyse foreign markets, design commercial and marketing policies abroad, and manage the organisational and legal side of operating internationally.
What you will study
The first phase covers strategy, innovation, organisational models and internationalisation strategies, plus the quantitative analysis of international markets. Later units focus on marketing, sales, law and data. Course units offered in 2026/27 include:
- Strategy and Innovation, and Organizational Forms and Design (9 ECTS each)
- Internationalization Strategies (9 ECTS)
- Elementary Applied Econometrics for International Economics (9 ECTS)
- Trade Marketing and Sales Management (9 ECTS)
- Managing B2B Relationships in Industrial Markets, and Social Media B2B Marketing
- International Contract and Business Law, and Cross Cultural Management
- Business Intelligence, and Statistical Learning and Prediction from Data
In the first year you take either English (Advanced), with a C1 exit level, or Chinese, but not both.
How the programme is taught
Alongside lectures, the plan includes a Business Planning unit and MeetTheManagers, a unit built around encounters with company managers, and the department lists company visits such as Ikea and Tetrapak. You can add an optional internship to the final dissertation, which carries no extra credits.
Career paths
According to the official course description, graduates work in firms, consultancies and institutions active on foreign markets. Profiles include:
- Marketing experts and managers of foreign markets in manufacturing, trading and service firms
- Import and export specialists
- Consultants who help firms enter foreign markets, including trade promotion and export credit agencies
- Managers in business associations, export consortia, chambers of commerce and regional export agencies
- Managers in logistics, transport and export support companies
Fees and scholarships
Unimore charges tuition according to family income. Non-EU students whose income and assets are entirely abroad get a notional Country ISEE, based on per-capita income at purchasing power parity; in 2026/27 the €0 to €30,000 band paid €380 plus fixed items in the first year. ER.GO scholarship holders are fully exempt from the all-inclusive fee, so International Management can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
Non-EU students living abroad apply through a dedicated call. For 2026/27 the online application ran from 10 January 2026 to 1 March 2026, extended from 20 February, with a non-refundable €20 fee, and the ranking list of admitted students was due by 15 April 2026. Final-year students may apply before graduating.
Admitted students complete Universitaly pre-enrolment and apply for a type D study visa. The 2027/28 call has not been published yet.
How ApplyAZ helps
