Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (class LM-77-R) taught in English by the University of Milan in Milan. After a shared first year, students choose Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship or Finance for Innovation. Non-EU students with family income abroad pay a fixed fee by country group.
Entry requirements
- A bachelor's degree in Italian class L-16, L-18 or L-33, or any degree with at least 24 ECTS split as 12 in business and management, 6 in economics and 6 in mathematics or statistics; foreign degrees are assessed for equivalence.
- English at B2 level or higher (CEFR): a certificate from the last three years, a University of Milan SLAM certificate from the last four years or the SLAM entry test.
- An online written test in English: 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes on management, marketing and strategy, financial accounting and statistics, with at least 20 correct answers needed.
- A review of your bachelor's grades, especially in business, mathematics and statistics, and of how well your profile fits the programme; the board may add an online interview in English.
- An application with your CV, degree certificate, transcript and passport, plus a €30 fee.
About the programme
Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIE) is a two-year master's degree in class LM-77-R (business and management sciences), taught in English by the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods of the University of Milan. It is worth 120 ECTS, is taught in person in Milan and has open admission, subject to an entry assessment.
The programme looks at how organisations spot entrepreneurial opportunities and turn new knowledge into new products, processes, markets and management approaches. It draws on management, economics, law and quantitative methods, and suits graduates in business, economics or public administration who want to lead innovation inside companies or build ventures of their own.
What you will study
The first year is common to everyone, with 60 ECTS of compulsory units. In the second year you follow one of three curricula, each with 36 ECTS of its own courses: Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship, or Finance for Innovation. Units in the 2026/27 study plan include:

How the programme is taught
Lectures and exercises sit alongside laboratories, teamwork, guest speakers and business projects. Every student earns 6 ECTS through an internship of at least 150 hours or through laboratories, with options in soft skills, due diligence, research methods, venture design, negotiation and AI in innovation. The plan also leaves 9 ECTS of electives, an optional 3 ECTS Italian course for non-native speakers and a 15 ECTS thesis.
Attendance is not compulsory but strongly recommended. Erasmus+ supports 3 to 12 months of study or traineeship abroad, and the 4EU+ alliance links the university with partners such as Charles University, Heidelberg University and the University of Copenhagen.

Fees and scholarships
MIE sits in fee Area B of the University of Milan's 2026/27 regulation. If your family's income and assets are outside Italy, the second instalment is a fixed amount set by your country group: €256 for Group A, which includes countries like India, Pakistan and Nigeria, €1,164 for Group B and €4,101.12 for Group C. Everyone pays a €146 first instalment. The Lombardy DSU scholarship, which the university runs itself, exempts full winners from the second instalment, so there is zero euro tuition for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
Visa applicants sit the same written test as everyone else. For 2026/27 they applied on apply.unimi.it from 22 January to 30 April 2026 with a €30 fee, and 14 May 2026 was their last test session. The board then reviewed their academic record and English, a credentials check followed, and admission was issued. The 2027/28 notice had not been published in September 2026.
Once admitted, you complete Universitaly pre-enrolment (by 31 July for 2026/27) and apply for a type D study visa, showing B2 English. At enrolment the university asks for a CIMEA statement of comparability or a declaration of value, due by 30 November.
