Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (class LM-77-R) taught in English at the University of Milan. Milan's Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship master asks for a bachelor's in business, economics or public administration, or any degree with at least 24 credits in business and management, economics, and maths or statistics. You also need English at B2, a pass in an online admission test, and a positive review of your academic merit and fit, which may include an online interview. Reviewed 8 October 2026. [1]
The degree and 24-credit rule
You need a bachelor's degree. Italian graduates qualify with a degree in classes L-16, L-18 or L-33. Graduates of other degrees qualify with at least 24 CFU/ECTS split as follows: [1]
- At least 12 in business and management: sectors SECS-P/07 to SECS-P/11 and ING-IND/35 (management engineering).
- At least 6 in economics: sectors SECS-P/01, 02, 03, 06 and 12.
- At least 6 in mathematics and statistics: sectors SECS-S/01, 03, 04, 05 and 06, MAT/05, MAT/06 and MAT/09.
The requirements must be met by the date you submit the application. They are necessary but not enough on their own: you must also pass the admission test and the merit review. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit as Italian ECTS, and the board looks at the subjects behind them. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a BBA, B.Com, or BA or B.Sc. in Economics, where management, accounting, finance, economics and business statistics courses usually cover all three blocks.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E., especially in Industrial or Production Engineering, which usually has the maths and may include management courses but needs 6 economics credits, and a B.Sc. in Mathematics or Statistics, which covers the maths block but needs business and economics.
- Often short: a BCA, a B.Sc. in Computer Science or a BA in humanities without business, accounting or economics courses.
The admission test also covers management, marketing and strategy, financial accounting and statistics, so these subjects matter beyond the credit count. [3]
English
English at CEFR level B2 or higher is required for admission. You can show it in one of three ways: [1]
- An accepted certificate at B2 or higher, issued no more than three years before you apply and uploaded with the application.
- An English level certified by the university language centre during a University of Milan degree in the last four years.
- The university language centre's entry test.
If you do not take or pass that test, you must submit an accepted certificate by the programme's deadline, which was 31 August 2026 for 2026/27, or you are not admitted. Medium of instruction letters are not accepted. The programme rules do not list specific test scores. [1][3]
Students without an Italian school diploma or degree can earn 3 elective credits by reaching Italian at A2, or choose a different elective. [1]
Admission test and selection
Every applicant takes a compulsory online admission test in English: 40 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes on the basics of management, marketing and strategy, financial accounting and statistics. For 2026/27 the pass mark was 20 correct answers, with no penalty for wrong answers. You can sit it only once, in the session you are invited to. [3]
Non-EU visa applicants must take the test at the latest in the first session after their application deadline, or they are excluded. Applicants who do not sit the test or do not reach the minimum are not assessed further. [1]
If you pass, the Admission Board assesses your academic merit (the quality of your degree, your average grade and possibly your grades in business, maths and statistics) and how well your academic and professional background fits the programme. It may hold an online interview in English. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, applications opened on 22 January 2026. Non-EU visa applicants had to apply and pay the fee by 30 April 2026, and their last test session was 14 May 2026. EU applicants had until 20 July 2026. Test sessions ran on 9 April, 14 May, 10 June and 31 July 2026, assigned by application date. [2][3]
Admitted students could enrol from 5 May 2026 to 15 January 2027, and applicants still finishing a degree had to graduate by 31 December 2026. Universitaly pre-enrolment for visa applicants closed on 31 July 2026. The 2027/28 admission notice sets the next dates. [1][2]
Documents and non-EU steps

- Your degree certificate, if you have graduated, and a Diploma Supplement or transcript listing exams, grades and credits.
- A detailed CV covering your studies, work and achievements.
- A detailed bachelor's study plan with exams, grades, average grade and final degree. Without it you are excluded.
- Your passport and any English certificate.
At enrolment you provide your bachelor's degree, legalised or apostilled where required, your high school diploma, a CIMEA statement of comparability or a declaration of value, an Italian tax code and, for non-EU citizens, your residence permit or its application receipt. For 2026/27 these were due by 30 November 2026, and non-EU visa applicants completed Universitaly pre-enrolment by 31 July 2026. [2]

About the programme
Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MIE) is a two-year master's degree in class LM-77-R (business and management sciences), taught in English by the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods of the University of Milan. It is worth 120 ECTS, is taught in person in Milan and has open admission, subject to an entry assessment.
The programme looks at how organisations spot entrepreneurial opportunities and turn new knowledge into new products, processes, markets and management approaches. It draws on management, economics, law and quantitative methods, and suits graduates in business, economics or public administration who want to lead innovation inside companies or build ventures of their own.
What you will study
The first year is common to everyone, with 54 ECTS of compulsory units. [1] In the second year you follow one of three curricula, each with 36 ECTS of its own courses: Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship, or Finance for Innovation. Units in the 2026/27 study plan include:

How the programme is taught
Lectures and exercises sit alongside laboratories, teamwork, guest speakers and business projects. Every student earns 6 ECTS through an internship of at least 150 hours or through laboratories, with options in soft skills, due diligence, research methods, venture design, negotiation and AI in innovation. The plan also leaves 9 ECTS of electives, an optional 3 ECTS Italian course for non-native speakers and a 15 ECTS thesis.
Attendance is not compulsory but strongly recommended. Erasmus+ supports 3 to 12 months of study abroad or a traineeship of 2 to 12 months, and the 4EU+ alliance links the university with partners such as Charles University, Heidelberg University and the University of Copenhagen.

MIE sits in fee Area B of the University of Milan's 2026/27 regulation. If your family's income and assets are outside Italy, fees are set by your country group, and Group A includes countries like India, Pakistan and Nigeria. How to apply from outside the EU
Visa applicants sit the same written test as everyone else. For 2026/27 they applied on apply.unimi.it from 22 January to 30 April 2026, and 14 May 2026 was their last test session. The board then reviewed their academic record and English, a credentials check followed, and admission was issued. The 2027/28 admission notice sets the next dates. [2][3]
