Sapienza's Management Engineering master asks for a three-year bachelor's degree or suitable foreign qualification with set credits in maths, science and engineering, English at B2 and a check of your academic knowledge. These rules come from the 2025/26 call. Reviewed 8 October 2026. [1]
The credit rule
You need a three-year university degree, or a qualification obtained abroad that is deemed suitable, with credits in set subject areas. [1]
- Italian classes L-8 and L-9 (information or industrial engineering): at least 12 ECTS in processing technologies and systems, industrial mechanical systems, economic and management engineering or automation (sectors ING-IND/16, ING-IND/17, ING-IND/35 and ING-INF/04).
- All other degrees: at least 81 ECTS in computer science, mathematics, statistics, chemistry, physics or any industrial or information engineering subject (sectors INF/01, MAT/02, 03 and 05 to 09, SECS-S/01 and 02, CHIM/03, 06 and 07, FIS/01 to 08, ING-IND and ING-INF). Of these, at least 36 ECTS must be in computer science, information processing, mathematics, statistics, chemistry or physics, and at least 12 ECTS in the four sectors listed above.
A Sapienza bachelor's in Management Engineering meets the credit rule. For degrees obtained abroad, a special committee appointed by the Area Educational Board assesses the requirements. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian ECTS and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and the committee looks at your subjects, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering that combines maths, physics and chemistry with manufacturing, industrial systems or engineering management courses.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science, Electronics or Electrical Engineering usually covers the 81 and 36 credit blocks, but still needs 12 credits in manufacturing, industrial plants, management engineering or automation. Control systems courses may help on automation.
- Often short: a B.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science, or a BCA, may cover the 36 science and computing credits but lack the 12 engineering credits and the wider 81. A BBA, B.Com or BA usually lacks the science and engineering blocks.
Missing credits can be made up by passing single exams before enrolment, under Sapienza's Student Regulations. [1]
English
English at CEF level B2. You can show it with a suitable CEF certificate, or with at least 3 ECTS from an English language qualifying exam in your earlier degree (sector L-LIN/12). Without either, an interview checks your English. The call does not list specific test scores. [1]
Academic knowledge assessment
For Italian degrees, knowledge is adequate with a weighted average of at least 24/30 plus exams in economics and business management, industrial plants and operations research, or with at least 24/30 in each of those three exams. Otherwise, an admission test covers the subjects marked below 24/30, and an inadequate result rules out enrolment. In 2025/26 the test ran in September to October and November to December 2025. [1]
For degrees obtained abroad, especially from non-EU countries, a special committee appointed by the Area Educational Board assesses the adequacy of your academic knowledge. [1]
2025/26 deadlines
In 2025/26 the assessment was requested on Infostud (code 33512) from 2 July 2025. Non-EU applicants requesting a student visa had one date: 16 September 2025. Other applicants could choose 16 October, 18 November or 16 December 2025, and 15 January 2026 was reserved for Sapienza graduates. The next call sets the new dates. [1]
Applicants still finishing a degree could apply if they had passed all their exams and graduated by 20 December 2025 (other Italian and international universities) or 24 January 2026 (Sapienza). [1]
Non-EU applicants living abroad
Non-EU citizens living abroad who apply for a study visa and choose the English curriculum must hold a pre-acceptance letter. Those who choose an Italian curriculum do not need one, but must pass Sapienza's Italian test at B2 or hold a recognised Italian certificate at B2 or above. After a positive outcome, you complete enrolment with the documents Sapienza lists for holders of foreign qualifications and pay the first fee instalment. [1]

About the programme
Management Engineering is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-31) at Sapienza University of Rome. It is run by the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering "Antonio Ruberti", with teaching in person in Rome. Sapienza lists the programme as taught in Italian and English. [2]
The degree joins the design focus of engineering with the economics and management of decisions inside organisations. It studies the methods, models and analytical tools used to manage complex systems where technology, market structure and competitive strategy interact, and it applies economic analysis, management, operations research and information technology to designing, organising and running production systems for goods and services. Curricula and teaching language
After the core courses, students choose one of five curricula: Organization and Management, Industrial Systems Management, Economics and Management of Innovation and Technology, Methods and Models for Decision Support, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics in Management. [2]
Only the fifth curriculum, Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics in Management, is taught entirely in English, core courses included. The other four have core courses in Italian, with electives in Italian or English. English-taught electives in the 2026/27 study plan include Marketing, Innovation Management, Sustainable Operations and Supply Chain, Process Management and Mining, Information Technologies for Smart Manufacturing, Safety and Maintenance for Industrial Systems, Data Driven Economics and Economics and Computation. In the curricula published so far, the final thesis is worth 18 CFU. Sapienza notes that its 2026/27 catalogue is still being updated. [3]

Graduates work in national and multinational companies in management consulting, energy, finance and insurance, transport and logistics, IT, telecommunications, mechanical engineering and retail, and in public administration. Some continue to a second-level master's or a PhD. [2]

Sapienza sets tuition by family income (ISEE). The regional scholarship body for Rome is DiSCo Lazio, and its scholarship winners also get a tuition waiver, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students. The region decides scholarship awards.
