How tuition works at the University of Bergamo

At the University of Bergamo, tuition follows family income, measured by the ISEE Università, and an ISEE Università up to €28,000 falls in the no-tax area. Families with income abroad can file an ISEE parificato, which sets fixed bands but not the no-tax area, and DSU scholarship winners are exempt from tuition, so study can be tuition-free for eligible students.

Students beyond the normal length of the course pay a higher contribution. Bergamo has no separate flat fee for non-EU students, and smaller contributions are paid in one instalment by 15 February 2027.

Foreign students not resident in Italy, with income abroad, use an ISEE parificato, which does not give the no-tax area. They pay fixed amounts by band, and anyone with no ISEE pays band H, the top band. Source: Bergamo fee guide 2026/27, pages 11 to 12.

Worked example: With a family ISEE parificato of €15,000, a first-year student from India is in Fascia A, the lowest fixed band. Without an ISEE parificato the student pays band H, the top band, so filing it is far cheaper. How do non-EU students apply to the University of Bergamo?

Non-EU students living abroad apply to the University of Bergamo programme by programme, then pre-enrol on Universitaly so the consulate can issue a study visa. The windows below are the 2026/27 ones, and the 2027/28 calls are not published yet. The university decides admission, and the consulate decides the visa.

Which entry tests and language levels does the University of Bergamo ask for?

The University of Bergamo uses TOLC-E, TOLC-I, TOLC-SU and TOLC-PSI, depending on the programme. English-taught degrees usually ask for B2 English, and Italian-taught degrees for B2 Italian. The test for each programme is in the table above and in its call.

For 2026/27 the family ISEE limit is €26,887.93 (₹29.5 lakh), and the top grant for a student living away from home is €8,248 (₹9.1 lakh) a year. Winners are also exempt from the university's yearly contribution, so study can be tuition-free for eligible students.

Bergamo also runs its own Top International Student Grants for English-taught master's degrees: for 2026/27 it offered 6 grants of €8,000 (₹8.8 lakh) a year for two years, awarded on GRE scores to applicants up to 30 whose degree is from outside Italy (2026/27 call). What does it cost to live in Bergamo?

For the study visa, the consulate asks you to show at least €10,179.85 (₹11.2 lakh) a year for living costs in Bergamo or any other Italian city. That is a floor, not a full budget: rent is the biggest cost, and a DSU residence place is much cheaper than a private room.
