Entry requirements
Detailed entry requirements
The University of Palermo's Management Engineering master asks for a bachelor's in engineering of any specialisation, basic knowledge of economics, statistics, production technologies and operations management checked in an admission interview, and English at B2. Reviewed 8 October 2026. [1]
Degree and knowledge requirements
You need a bachelor's degree in engineering, of any specialisation, from a university that the University of Palermo recognises as suitable. The Italian version of the access sheet names the Italian engineering classes L-7, L-8 and L-9, or a Bachelor Degree in Engineering from a foreign university. [1]
An admission committee appointed by the course council reviews your study plan against these requirements, and the course regulation says it can set additional credits to acquire before admission. [1][6]
You also need basic knowledge in four areas: [1][2]
- Economics: basics of finance (interest and discount rates, cash flow, return on investment, net present value), microeconomics and cost accounting.
- Statistics: probability, distributions and random variables, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing and linear regression.
- Operations and production management: inventory management, economic order quantity and production planning.
- Production technologies: manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing, quality management, mechanical behaviour of materials, forming processes, machining and machine tools.
These rules come from the 2024/25 admission requirements sheet and the programme's 2025/26 enrolment page. The next call sets any changes. [1][2]
What this means for your transcript
The degree rule looks at the type of bachelor's you hold, and the interview then checks the four knowledge areas. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Industrial or Production Engineering, which often includes some statistics, manufacturing and industrial management content.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, Electrical, Civil or Chemical Engineering. It meets the degree rule, but you may need to prepare economics, operations management and production technology for the interview.
- Often short: a BBA, B.Com, BCA, B.Sc. or BA. The access sheet asks for a bachelor's degree in engineering, so these do not meet the rule as written.
UniPa shares sample study material for the interview topics through its student portal. [2]
English
English at CEFR level B2 or higher, in writing, reading, listening and speaking. [1] The programme's 2025/26 enrolment page asks you to upload a B2 certificate to the student portal and lists certificates from British Institutes, Cambridge University Press and Assessment, ETS (TOEFL), Pearson and Trinity College London, as well as the B2 certificate from UniPa's language centre. [2]
Non-EU applicants can upload a Medium of Instruction certificate from their university instead of a language certificate. [3] UniPa's language page for English-taught programmes also lists IELTS Academic with a minimum of 5.5. [4]
The access sheet adds that your Italian level is assessed and, where needed, Italian teaching is added to your plan. [1]
Admission interview
You are admitted only after a positive evaluation by the admission committee in an interview (the access sheet says interview or test) on basic economics, statistics, production technologies and operations and production management. Graduates of UniPa's bachelor's in Management Engineering or Innovation Engineering for Digital Companies are exempt. [1]
Interviews take place online on Microsoft Teams. The schedule and link are sent after you are pre-accepted, and you show your passport during the interview. [2]
For non-EU applicants, the course coordinator evaluates your documents, issues an admission letter and holds a personal knowledge interview on your academic preparation, motivation and English. Your application is on hold until the outcome is confirmed. [3]
Applying before you graduate
The access sheet allows conditional enrolment, even after the academic year has started, for final-year bachelor's students with at least 140 credits who meet the degree rule and will graduate by the extraordinary session of the previous academic year. [1] The non-EU procedure asks for a copy of your bachelor's degree, so we check the timing for your case. [3]
2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, non-EU applicants living abroad had to create their UniPa portal application by 20 July 2026 and start their Universitaly application by 4 August 2026. Visa procedures for that intake must be completed by 30 November 2026. The 2027/28 dates are not yet published. [3]
Documents and non-EU steps
On the UniPa Student Portal and Universitaly you upload: [3]
- a valid passport and a passport photo
- your bachelor's degree and transcript of records
- an English certificate at B2 or higher, or a Medium of Instruction certificate
- your CV
To finalise enrolment you need a declaration of value from the Italian consulate, or a CIMEA statement of comparability, Diploma Supplement or ARDI, each with a CIMEA statement of verification. You also need your original degree and transcript with a legalised Italian or English translation, and proof that you requested a residence permit. The admission letter does not by itself give you a visa: the Italian embassy or consulate decides. [3]

About the programme
Management Engineering is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree in class LM-31, run by the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo and taught entirely in English.
This page covers the in-person degree in Palermo (code 2255), which has open access; UniPa also runs a separate online edition of Management Engineering (code 2256). [1]
The degree focuses on the managerial education of engineers.
Its quality report describes it as the natural next step after a bachelor's degree in industrial, information or civil engineering, and its aim is to train engineer-managers who solve business problems with an engineering approach, in a context shaped by digital transformation, the transition to a circular economy and global markets.
What you will study
Shared courses give advanced knowledge of managerial issues: project management, innovation management, marketing, corporate finance, strategy and supply chain management, alongside methods for management engineering.
The course report also stresses soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication and change management. You then choose one of four curricula:
- Data Analytics for Business
- Digital Transformation
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- Sustainability and Social Impact
How the programme is taught
Teaching is in person in Palermo. All courses include project work and use MBA-style methods such as group projects, case studies, flipped classrooms and in-class discussion. Attendance is not compulsory but strongly suggested. [6]
The study plan includes 6 credits for other educational activities, earned through an internship, recognised work experience or approved seminars and workshops. [6]
The degree ends with a thesis worth 15 CFU: a scientific or project work of managerial interest that opens with a literature review and closes with managerial implications. It can be developed with a company or another institution, in Italy or abroad. You defend it in a public presentation of up to 15 minutes, followed by questions from the examination committee. [6][7]
Career paths
The course report describes two main profiles for graduates:
- Manager in manufacturing, services, energy, finance or public administration, in large companies as well as small and medium enterprises and startups
- Strategic consultant in international consulting firms
Fees and scholarships
For 2026/27, UniPa offers non-EU students living abroad a choice of fee routes.
The fixed route sets one amount depending on whether your country is on List B2A, List B2B or neither, and it includes the regional tax for the right to study. [5]
The income-based route sets the amount from your family's income and assets through an ISEE parificato.
ERSU Palermo scholarships depend on merit and family income, and the university lists a tuition fee waiver among their benefits.
How to apply from outside the EU
Your application starts on the UniPa student portal, with your passport, a photo, your bachelor's degree and transcript, a CV and an English B2 or Medium of Instruction certificate.
The course coordinator evaluates the file after an administrative check, can issue an admission letter and then invites you to a personal knowledge interview on your preparation, motivation and English. [3] The programme's admission interview also checks basic economics, statistics, production technologies and operations management. [1][2]
Universitaly pre-enrolment and a type D study visa follow; the consulate decides the visa. For 2026/27 the portal deadline was 20 July 2026 and the Universitaly deadline 4 August 2026, and the 2027/28 dates are not yet published. [3]
Enrolment documents are listed in the non-EU master's procedure.
How ApplyAZ helps
ApplyAZ is an Italy-based consultancy that works only with public universities. We can include this programme in a shortlist of 20 to 30 English-taught programmes that fit your profile, so your plan never rests on a single application.
For eligible students who start with us, a named person owns each stage, from A to Z:
- We check your transcript against Palermo's entry rules for this programme.
- We write your CV and a tailored statement of purpose.
- We prepare and submit your UniPa portal application and Universitaly pre-enrolment.
- We help you declare your family income for reduced fees and file your ERSU Palermo scholarship application at the right time and in the right format.
- We prepare your visa file.
With operations in all 20 Italian regions, we follow each region's scholarship rules and deadlines as they change. The university decides admission, the region decides the scholarship and the consulate decides the visa, so no one can promise an outcome. You pay in milestones, and every service you pay for is either delivered or its fee is refunded (terms apply).
Programmes at Italian public universities can be tuition-free for eligible students. Check if you are eligible and book a one-to-one consultation session with one of our Italy experts, or see how ApplyAZ works.
