Degree requirement
You need a foreign qualification recognised as suitable, at first-cycle level in the Bologna Process (EQF level 6), from a higher education institution whose degrees give access to second-cycle study. Italian applicants need a bachelor's in one of these classes: [1]
- L-8 Information Engineering and L-9 Industrial Engineering
- L-16 Administration and Organisation Sciences and L-18 Economics and Business Management
- L-33 Economics, L-36 Political Science and International Relations and L-41 Statistics
A degree in any other field also qualifies if it includes at least 36 CFU in listed subject areas: economics, economic policy, public finance, econometrics, business economics and management, corporate finance, business organisation, financial intermediaries, statistics, demography, mathematical methods for economics, rural economics, management engineering, computer science and information systems, geometry, mathematical analysis, experimental physics, and commercial or economic law. A committee assesses a foreign degree on the content of its programme, using the same criteria as for Italian degrees. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and foreign credits are not the same unit, and the committee looks at the subjects you studied. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Com, BBA, BA or B.Sc. in Economics or Statistics, a BA in Political Science or International Relations, or a B.Tech or B.E. in computer, electronics, IT, mechanical or industrial engineering.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech in civil engineering, a BCA, or a B.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science, where maths, physics, computing and any economics subjects must add up to the 36 credits.
- Often short: a BA in literature, history or languages, or degrees in life sciences, nursing or pharmacy, with little economics, statistics, maths or computing.
English
English at CEFR B2, held by the application deadline and declared on the programme's English form. The call accepts any of the following: [1]
- A TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English, Trinity College London or OOPT certificate at B2 or above, issued no more than four years before the application deadline.
- A bachelor's or master's degree taught in English.
- A university English exam passed at B2 or above, with the level stated on the exam certificate, the exam programme or a certificate from the professor.
- Native-speaker status, stated in your CV.
Selection
There is no written test. A committee checks the requirements, then runs two phases, each scored out of 100: [1]
- CV assessment: academic merit up to 40 points, fit of your CV with the programme up to 30, international experience up to 12, an optional GRE or GMAT up to 8, and an overall assessment of the application up to 10. You need at least 60 to reach the interview.
- Aptitude interview: held remotely in English, on your aptitude and the fit of your profile with the programme. You need at least 60.
You need at least 120 out of 200 overall to be ranked. There is one ranking for each quota, a tie goes to the younger candidate, and unfilled places go through two reallocation rounds in ranking order for candidates who declare interest. Only documents uploaded by the deadline are assessed. [1]

For 2026/27 there were 70 places: 40 for Italian, EU and equivalent non-EU applicants, and 30 reserved for non-EU citizens living abroad. Unused places in the non-EU quota pass to EU and equivalent applicants. [1]

Documents and non-EU steps
On Studenti Online you upload your passport or ID, your degree certificate translated into Italian or English with the transcript and Diploma Supplement where available (or your exam list if you have not graduated yet), a CV in English on the programme's template, the English form with your proof of B2, and your residence permit if you have one. A GRE or GMAT certificate is optional. [1]
Non-EU citizens living abroad must also submit pre-enrolment to the Italian diplomatic mission through Universitaly. After winning a place, they upload their degree documents and student visa, the translation, authenticity and value of foreign documents are verified where required, and originals are checked in Bologna after the first fee instalment. About the programme
International Management is a two-year laurea magistrale in class LM-77 R, Management, run by the Department of Management (DiSA) of the University of Bologna. [1] The university validates it, subject to checks on your qualification, and the consulate then handles your study visa, which needs proof of financial means. No validations are made during the August closure. You then enrol and pay the first instalment, have your documents checked by the Bologna campus international student office and request a residence permit within eight days of arrival.
