How much does the University of Florence cost in 2026/27?

The University of Florence costs from €156 (₹17,000) a year in the no-tax area for families resident in Italy to €2,900 (₹3.2 lakh) at the top band in 2026/27. Students resident abroad pay by their country's income group instead, €939 (₹1.0 lakh) for India, and study can be tuition-free for eligible students who win a DSU scholarship.

Who pays what, 2026/27Yearly totalHow it is set
ISEE up to €24,000 (no-tax area)€156 (₹17,000)Contribution €0; only the €140 regional tax and the €16 stamp duty
ISEE €24,000.01 to €25,000€506 (₹56,000)€350 contribution plus €156; the contribution then rises across 72 ISEE bands
Top band, ISEE above €90,000€2,900 (₹3.2 lakh)€2,744 maximum contribution plus €156, paid in two instalments of €1,802.40 and €1,097.60
Students resident abroad, lower-middle income country such as India€939 (₹1.0 lakh)Figurative ISEE of €36,500 assigned automatically; first instalment €625.80, second €313.20; an ISEE parificato cannot be used
Students resident abroad, high-income country€2,395.30 (₹2.6 lakh)Figurative ISEE of €75,500; upper-middle income countries pay €1,467.30 (₹1.6 lakh) and low-income countries €536 (₹59,000)
DSU Toscana scholarship winners and eligible students€16 (₹2,000)Exempt from the contribution; only the €16 stamp duty

Florence says its student fees are unchanged for 2026/27, with the same 72 ISEE bands and the €24,000 no-tax threshold (news of 26 June 2026). Under its fee exemptions, DSU Toscana winners and eligible students pay only the €16 stamp duty and students from developing countries only the €156, while India sits in the lower-middle income group at €939 (₹1.0 lakh). A student resident in Italy who files no ISEE by the deadline can pay the maximum.

Source: Tasse e contributi universitari 2025/26 (Manifesto, Part III) and Allegato 5, country income groups for 2026. Rupees use the FBIL reference rate of 21 September 2026, €1 = ₹109.90.

Students resident abroad do not file an ISEE: Florence assigns a figurative ISEE by the World Bank income group of their country, €75,500, €52,500, €36,500 or €25,500. An ISEE parificato or any other calculation cannot be used (section 13.4 of the 2025/26 fee rules), so family income documents do not change the fee. Source: Florence, ISEE for students resident abroad.

Worked example: A first-year student from India pays €939 (₹1.0 lakh) in 2026/27, because India is in the lower-middle income group and gets a figurative ISEE of €36,500. There is no cheaper fee route through family documents, but DSU Toscana scholarship winners are exempt from the contribution. We prepare the DSU Toscana application and the family documents with the student, who submits them.

Reality check

  • Medicine in English has no non-EU places this year. Florence's new course, awaiting accreditation, has 50 places for EU and Italy-resident candidates in 2026/27 and none for non-EU applicants living abroad.
  • Rounds close early. For 2026/27, non-EU applicants living abroad could apply to master's only from 10 December 2025 to 17 April 2026; the summer round was closed to them.
  • Documents matter even with a fixed fee. Master's enrolment needs a Declaration of Value or CIMEA verification and comparability certificates, and DSU Toscana needs legalised family originals posted by 7 September.
  • Italian still matters. Italian-taught degrees ask for B2: at least 55 out of 72 on the CISIA ITA L2 test and an oral exam, or a B2 certificate.

What we handle: the shortlist, the fee route, the income documents, the programme applications, the Universitaly pre-enrolment, the visa file and the DSU Toscana application, prepared with you. The university decides admission, DSU Toscana decides the DSU scholarship and the consulate decides the visa.

How does ApplyAZ handle applications to the University of Florence?

For eligible students, we take care of the whole application to the University of Florence. We shortlist programmes against your profile and their entry tests, prepare the documents and the family's income papers, file each programme application, complete Universitaly pre-enrolment, handle the visa file and prepare the DSU Toscana application with you.

We work only with Italian public universities, and we do not promise outcomes: the university decides admission, DSU Toscana decides the DSU scholarship and the consulate decides the visa.

Frequently asked questions

Is the University of Florence a public university?

Yes. The University of Florence is a state university on the Ministry of University and Research's list of 61 public universities, with roots in a Studium Generale of 1321 and the name of university since 1924. It had 56,166 students in 2024/25, 4,120 of them international, and its fees follow family income, or the country's income group for students abroad.

How much does the University of Florence cost in 2026/27?

In 2026/27 the University of Florence costs €156 (₹17,000) a year with a family ISEE up to €24,000, and up to €2,900 (₹3.2 lakh) at the top band, on its 2025/26 table, which it says is unchanged. Students resident abroad get a figurative ISEE by country, so a student from India pays €939 (₹1.0 lakh).

Can study at the University of Florence be tuition-free for eligible students?

Yes. Florence exempts DSU Toscana scholarship winners and eligible students from its contribution, and they pay only the €16 stamp duty, so study can be tuition-free for eligible students. The 2026/27 family limits are an ISEE of €27,000 and an ISPE of €60,000, and the cash grant away from home reaches €3,338 (₹3.7 lakh).

What does a student from India pay at the University of Florence?

A first-year student from India pays €939 (₹1.0 lakh) a year in 2026/27, because Florence gives students resident abroad a figurative ISEE of €36,500 for lower-middle income countries. It does not accept an ISEE parificato, so family income papers do not change the fee, but a DSU Toscana scholarship winner is exempt from the contribution.

How many programmes does the University of Florence teach in English?

We list 10 English-taught programmes at the University of Florence for the next intake: 9 master's and a single-cycle degree in Medicine and Surgery. The master's cover fields such as engineering, economics, finance, software, chemistry and agriculture, and most select on your degree, grades and CV, sometimes with an interview.

Which entry tests does the University of Florence use?

The University of Florence uses CISIA's TOLC tests for some Italian-taught degrees with local restricted access, and its own tests for other restricted degrees. Italian-taught Medicine and Dentistry use the national open first semester, and English-taught Medicine uses the IMAT. Its English-taught master's check your degree and documents instead of setting an entry test.

Does the University of Florence teach Medicine in English?

Yes. Florence opened Medicine and Surgery in English for 2026/27, the first such degree in Tuscany, with the IMAT held on 29 September 2026. The course is awaiting accreditation, and MUR Decree 1005 gives it 50 places for EU and Italy-resident candidates and none for non-EU applicants living abroad this year.

What is the University of Florence's world ranking?
