Insubria's GEEM master asks applicants with a non-EU degree for a bachelor's in a listed economics, business, maths, management engineering or political science field, a final grade of 80% or more, a degree awarded from 1 January 2021, English at B2, a document evaluation and an interview in English. Degree and grade rules
For applicants with a degree from a non-EU university, the 2026/27 rules ask for a bachelor's degree or equivalent in one of these fields: [1]
- Economics, management or commerce
- Finance, accounting or business administration
- Mathematics with a minor in economics
- Management engineering
- Political sciences
The programme's non-EU admissions page also lists social sciences, and social sciences with economics. [3]
Your final grade must be 80% or higher in a percentage or CGPA system, or 14/20 in a French-style system, and your degree must have been awarded on or after 1 January 2021. [1][3] Applications are assessed in descending order of final grade, starting at 100% and moving down to the 80% threshold. [3]
Applicants with an Italian or EU degree follow a separate rule based on Italian degree classes and a final grade of at least 85/110. [1]
What this means for your transcript
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Com, BBA or BMS, a BA or B.Sc. in Economics, or a BA in Political Science, with a final grade of 80% or more. These match the commerce, business administration, management, economics and political science fields on the list.
- Check carefully: a B.Sc. in Mathematics, which needs a minor in economics, a BA in Social Sciences or Sociology, which appears on the admissions page but not in the regulations, and a B.Tech or B.E., where only management engineering is listed.
- Often short: a BCA, a B.Sc. in Computer Science or a B.Tech in Computer Science, which are not on the subject list, and any degree awarded before 1 January 2021 or with a final grade below 80%.
English
English at CEFR level B2 or higher. Applicants with a non-EU degree can show a B2 or higher certificate or a medium of instruction (MOI) letter. [1]
Under the general rule, B2 can also be shown by an international certificate no more than three years old, a university English exam at B2, a degree taught entirely in English, or a test or course run by the university's language centre. The regulations do not list specific IELTS or TOEFL scores. [1]
Selection and interview
There is no entrance test. [3] The programme coordinators evaluate your university career, CV and motivation letter, and non-EU applicants then have an interview in English with the coordinators, held online on Microsoft Teams. The interview checks basic knowledge of economics, business, law and quantitative subjects, and your motivation. [1]
Non-EU places are limited by reserved quotas. If applications exceed capacity, candidates are compared on merit, the quality and coherence of their CV and studies, and their motivation. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, the non-EU pre-selection form was open from 28 January to 31 May 2026. Candidates who passed the document evaluation had to complete Universitaly pre-enrolment by 30 June 2026, and interviews ran between July and October 2026. [1]

Documents and non-EU steps
Pre-selected candidates send the department's Foreign Students Desk their degree certificate with final grade, a transcript with exams, credits and grades, an English certificate, a passport copy, a CV and a motivation letter. [1]
After a positive evaluation, the university validates your Universitaly pre-enrolment and sends the admission letter to the Italian consulate for the visa. You also pre-enrol on the university's own online system. [1]
To enrol, the university asks for your degree with a translation, a CIMEA verification or legalisation, and a CIMEA statement of comparability, a declaration of value or an ARDI certificate, plus a translated and legalised transcript. Applicants to English-taught courses are exempt from the Italian language test. [4]

About the programme
Global Entrepreneurship Economics and Management (GEEM) is a two-year master's degree in business and economics, class LM-77, run by the Department of Economics (DiECO) at the University of Insubria.
It is taught in English at the Varese site in Via Monte Generoso, with lessons in person. The Italian title is Imprenditorialità, Economia e Management Internazionale.
The programme is for future managers, entrepreneurs and economists who want an international career. It combines managerial and economic tools for fast-changing markets, with frequent workshops, company executives in class and lab-style courses led by industry experts.
What you will study
You choose one of two curricula. International Business and Entrepreneurship (IBE) focuses on management, startups, business planning, fundraising and international growth. Economics of Innovation (EI) takes a quantitative view of industries, innovation and regional development. Units in the 2026/27 plan include:

How the programme is taught
Five double degree agreements give a second degree from a partner: Friedrich Schiller University Jena, the University of Hohenheim, the University of Bordeaux, Fulda University of Applied Sciences and Kaunas University of Technology. To take part, you include 6 ECTS of seminar-style courses in your first-year plan and pass them by the summer session. [1]
The study plan includes an internship or an alternative activity: 6 ECTS (at least 200 hours) in IBE and 3 ECTS (at least 100 hours) in EI. The final thesis is worth 18 ECTS and is written and discussed in English. Erasmus+ exchanges are also available. [1][3]

Fees and scholarships
Fees at Insubria follow the 2026/27 contribution rules.
Students whose income and assets are abroad pay a flat rate set by country group and subject area, and students from countries like India fall in the lowest group. [5]
With an ISEE up to €28,000 no contribution is due. The university manages the DSU scholarship directly, and winners are exempt from the contribution and the regional tax, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students. [5]
How to apply from outside the EU
Applicants with a degree from outside the EU follow their own route. GEEM checks your bachelor's subject and final grade, then holds an online interview in English. For 2026/27, the pre-selection form was open from 28 January to 31 May 2026, and pre-selected candidates then sent their documents for evaluation. [1]
Eligible candidates completed Universitaly pre-enrolment by 30 June 2026, and the university sent the admission letter to the Italian consulate through Universitaly. Interviews ran between July and October 2026. The 2027/28 dates are not yet published. [1]

What is the difference between the two tracks?
International Business and Entrepreneurship covers management, startups, business planning, fundraising and international growth. Economics of Innovation is more quantitative, with econometrics, behavioural and experimental economics, and industrial dynamics. [1][2]
