IMAT cut-off scores are the last admitted scores on each university's own ranking. This page gives the official figures for non-EU applicants living abroad from the 2023, 2024 and 2025 tests, beside the 2026/27 places in MUR Decree 1005 of 6 August 2026. Each figure in the main table links to the list or decree table it came from, and where no list is public or readable, the table says so.
Where things stand: 29 September 2026
The IMAT 2026 was held on Tuesday 29 September 2026 at 13:30 Italian time. Next come anonymous scores on Universitaly on Thursday 8 October, the paper view on Monday 19 October and the named national ranking on Monday 26 October.
Each university publishes its own non-EU list on its own date, and we add the 2026 last admitted scores here as each official list appears. Status as of 29 September 2026; figures checked on 28 September 2026 against Decree 1005, its Allegato 2 and the universities' own lists.
In short
- Cut-offs: there is no national cut-off for non-EU applicants living abroad. Each university ranks its own, and in 2025 the last admitted scores on the official lists we could read ran from 50.90 at Bari to 67.60 at Parma (at seat count), out of 90.
- Places 2026/27: 845 for non-EU applicants living abroad at 16 public universities, or 525 without Tor Vergata's course in Tirana, Albania. In Italy they run from 11 at Bari to 61 at Messina, and Florence has none.
- Where the cut-offs come from: only the universities' own lists. Five of the 17 universities have a list we could read for at least one year: Bari, Catania, Marche Polytechnic, Messina and Parma.
- 2026 figures: the national ranking comes out on 26 October 2026. Each non-EU list follows on its university's own date, from 26 October at Bologna, Padua, Cagliari and Marche Polytechnic.

What were the IMAT cut-off scores by university in 2025, 2024 and 2023?
On the official lists we could read, the last admitted non-EU score in 2025 ran from 50.90 at Bari to 67.60 at Parma (at seat count). In 2024 it ran from 57.20 at Catania to 65.80 at Bari, and in 2023 from 36.90 at Messina to 50.40 at Parma. Scores are out of 90, and each cell links its list.
A single figure is the lowest score admitted on the first list. Where a later round (scorrimento) was published, the second figure is the lowest after it. "At seat count" means the list marks admitted candidates only by colour, so we read the score at the position equal to the number of places.
Bari's 2023 list has no status column, so its figure sits at rank 8, the number of places its rector's decree opened. "Not public (login only)" means the list appears only in each candidate's personal area. "No longer online" means the university has taken past lists down, "Not found" means we found no list on its pages when we checked, and "score not read" marks a linked list that did not open as text for us.
Places are for non-EU applicants living abroad in 2026/27. The table covers only these lists, as we found no official last admitted score per university for the national ranking.

How many IMAT seats are there for non-EU students in 2026/27?
Tabella B of Decree 1005 gives non-EU applicants living abroad 845 Medicine and Surgery places at 16 public universities for 2026/27, or 525 without Tor Vergata's course in Tirana, Albania. That total is our sum of the table's rows. Florence has none this year, and Messina has the most in Italy, with 61.

The biggest changes are at Tirana, up from 150 to 320, and at Catania and Marche Polytechnic, down from 60 to 40 and 50. Messina and Parma each gain 5 places, Milano-Bicocca gains 2 and Cagliari loses 2. Padua's MedTech course adds 15 new places.
Three of the 2026/27 calls and course pages we read split the quota. Bari keeps 3 of its 11 places for the Marco Polo programme for students from China, Cagliari 2 of its 18 and Pavia 5 of its 40, and Pavia passes unused Marco Polo seats to other non-EU applicants.

Florence and Padua's MedTech course are new and awaiting accreditation, so their places depend on a positive outcome. Tor Vergata's Tirana course is a separate seat in Albania, shown in its own row.

For students from India, the NMC's rules matter here. Its Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021 say that "no part of medical training and internship shall be done in India or in any country other than country from where the primary medical qualification is obtained". We review the Tirana course against that clause with each student before any choice.

What is the difference between the national ranking and the non-EU lists?
The national ranking covers EU candidates and non-EU candidates living in Italy who score at least 20 out of 90, and it serves every university at once. Non-EU applicants living abroad are ranked separately, only by the university where they pre-enrolled, and any score above zero counts. Article 3(5) of Decree 1005 sets this split.
Under the decree, two national rankings are drawn up: one for Medicine and Surgery with Dentistry, and one for Veterinary Medicine. The named national ranking appears in each candidate's Universitaly area, and we found no MUR or university page that gives a last admitted EU score by university.

In the decree's own words
"sono redatte due distinte graduatorie nazionali": two separate national rankings are drawn up (art. 3(5)).
"Le graduatorie riservate ai candidati dei Paesi non UE residenti all'estero sono definite dalle Università.": the rankings reserved for non-EU candidates living abroad are set by the universities (art. 3(5)).
"I candidati dei Paesi non UE residenti all'estero concorrono unicamente per l'accesso alla graduatoria locale dell'Ateneo presso il quale hanno presentato la domanda di preiscrizione": they compete only for the local ranking of the university where they pre-enrolled (art. 2(3)).
So a non-EU applicant living abroad competes for one university's places only. That is why the pre-enrolment choice matters more than any preference order, and why we compare seats and past lists with each student before pre-enrolment.
Why do IMAT cut-offs fall during scorrimento?
Cut-offs fall during scorrimento because a seat that an admitted candidate does not take up passes to the next person on the list, whose score is the same or lower. Each round can hold the last admitted score or lower it, never raise it. Messina's 2025 non-EU list moved from 58.20 to 57.80 over two rounds.

A correction is different from a round. Bari published a corrected 2025 list three days after the first, and the last admitted score rose from 49.30 to 50.90, so we show the corrected figure.

In the national ranking, a withdrawal moves the list on only while that course still has places. For non-EU lists, the 2026/27 calls differ: Pavia publishes vacant seats and a replacement list on 3 November 2026, and Parma updates its list when admitted candidates miss their deadline.

Check your eligibilityWhy do IMAT cut-offs change so much from one year to the next?
Cut-offs move with the test, the number of places and the number of applicants, and all three can change every year. On the official lists we read, every 2023 figure was lower than the same university's 2024 figure: Messina went from 36.90 to 61.80, Bari from 37.60 to 65.80 and Marche Polytechnic from 43.00 to 60.30.
Bari's small quota swung hardest. It admitted 8 in 2024 and 11 in 2025, and its last admitted score fell from 65.80 to 50.90, while Parma's rose from 59.10 to 67.60 at seat count. Demand is uneven too: Catania ranked 402 applicants for 60 places in 2025, and Messina 341 for 56.
Places change again for 2026/27. Catania falls from 60 to 40 and Marche Polytechnic from 60 to 50, while Messina rises to 61 and Parma to 50. Fewer places mean fewer admissions from the same list, but no past figure predicts a 2026 cut-off.
How can you use past IMAT cut-offs to rank university preferences?
Past cut-offs work best for comparing universities within the same year, not for forecasting a score. For 2026 the choice is already set: preferences became final at 15:00 on 9 September 2026, and non-EU applicants living abroad compete only at their pre-enrolment university. For 2027, the table shows how high each list has recently closed.
When we shortlist with a student, we read the table in four ways.
- Same year, same stage: we compare first-list figures with first-list figures, since later rounds sit lower.
- Three years, not one: Bari's move from 65.80 to 50.90 shows why a single year misleads.
- Places for the coming year: a quota that shrinks, like Catania's, or grows, like Messina's, changes how far down a list admission reaches.
- Gaps in the data: where a university publishes no list, we rely on its places and its own call, never on another website's figure.
For EU candidates and non-EU candidates living in Italy, each round offers the highest preference a score reaches, so the order of preferences matters as well.

What happens after the IMAT on 29 September 2026?
Scores come out anonymously on Thursday 8 October 2026, each candidate's own paper follows on Monday 19 October, and the named national ranking on Monday 26 October. Non-EU applicants living abroad wait for their university's own list, which Bologna, Padua, Cagliari and Marche Polytechnic say they publish on 26 October.
- Thu 8 Oct 2026: anonymous scores by answer-sheet label code, in the Universitaly reserved area (Allegato 2, point 4).
- Mon 19 Oct: each candidate's own paper, score and personal data sheet (point 6).
- Mon 26 Oct: the named national ranking (point 7), and the non-EU lists at Bologna, Padua, Cagliari and Marche Polytechnic.
- 26 Oct to 10 Nov: non-EU enrolment windows at Marche Polytechnic (to 4 November) and Parma (27 October to 10 November).
- Thu 29 Oct: last day to enrol in round 1 of the national ranking (our count of the 4-day rule), and the non-EU enrolment deadline at Bologna, and at Pavia by 23:59.
- Fri 30 Oct, 12:00: confirmation of interest for national candidates still booked or waiting (our count, point 10(d)).
- Tue 3 Nov: round 2 of the national ranking, and Pavia's vacant non-EU seats and replacement list, with enrolment by 6 November (Pavia call).
- Mon 30 Nov: visa applications for 2026/27 close, unless a university sets an earlier date (Universitaly).
The Messina, Catania and Milan calls say only that the university draws up the non-EU list, and Turin shows results in each candidate's MyUniTo area. For Bari, Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Naples Federico II, Sapienza, Tor Vergata and Milano-Bicocca, we had not read a 2026/27 call giving the non-EU list date by 28 September 2026.

Why are some universities' IMAT cut-offs not published?
Decree 1005 leaves the non-EU lists to each university and sets no rule on how, or for how long, they are published. Bologna and Turin show results only in each candidate's reserved area, Padua and Pavia have taken past lists down, and some official files could not be read when we checked on 28 September 2026.
Lists exist but could not be read for Tor Vergata (Rome, 2023 to 2025, and Tirana, 2025), Milano-Bicocca (2024) and Naples Federico II (the 2025 closure notice). Cagliari's student office site would not load for us, and Campania Luigi Vanvitelli's admission pages showed no documents to our tools, so both read "Not found". We found no list for Milan or Sapienza in any year, nor for Marche Polytechnic in 2025, Catania in 2023, Milano-Bicocca in 2023 and 2025 or Naples Federico II in 2023 and 2024.
We never fill a gap with another website's figure, and some figures online differ from the official lists. We add each missing score once the university's own list can be read.
Which Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine courses in English use the IMAT?
Four public courses outside Medicine use the same test in 2026/27: Dentistry at Sapienza and Siena, and Veterinary Medicine at Bologna and Naples Federico II. Together they offer 18 places for non-EU applicants living abroad, and the Naples course is awaiting accreditation. We have not yet read an official cut-off list for any of them.

Reality check
What past cut-offs tell you: how far down each university's list admission reached in a given year. They are not a forecast, and the 2026 figures depend on this year's scores, places and enrolments.
What nobody controls for you: your score, the number of places and the candidates ahead of you. The university decides admission, the DSU body decides the scholarship and the consulate decides the visa.

Is there a national IMAT cut-off for non-EU students?
No. Article 3(5) of Decree 1005 leaves the rankings for non-EU applicants living abroad to each university, and article 3(3) sets no minimum beyond a score above zero. Each university admits down its own list until its places are taken, so the last admitted score differs by university and by year.
When will the IMAT 2026 cut-offs be known?
Only when each university publishes its non-EU list. Bologna, Padua, Cagliari and Marche Polytechnic name 26 October 2026 in their calls, the same day as the national ranking, and other universities set their own dates or give none. We add each 2026 last admitted score to this page once the official list appears.
Can I change my university preferences now that the test is over?
No. Preferences became final at 15:00 Italian time on 9 September 2026, when registration closed, and Allegato 2 of Decree 1005 says they cannot be changed or added to afterwards. Non-EU applicants living abroad compete only in the ranking of the university where they pre-enrolled, so that choice is already set.
Does Florence take non-EU students for Medicine in English in 2026/27?
No. Tabella B of Decree 1005 gives Florence's new course 50 places for EU candidates and non-EU candidates living in Italy, and none for non-EU applicants living abroad. The course is also awaiting accreditation, so under article 7(2) its places depend on a positive outcome of that procedure.
Is Tor Vergata's Tirana course in Italy?
No, it is a Tor Vergata Medicine and Surgery course taught at its seat in Tirana, Albania, and Tabella B lists it as a separate row. It has 320 places for non-EU applicants living abroad in 2026/27, up from 150 in 2025/26. Its 2025 list is online, but we could not read the score.
Why do some websites show different IMAT cut-offs?
Figures elsewhere may come from a first list, an estimate or a later round. Bari's first 2025 non-EU list closed at 49.30, but its corrected list three days later closed at 50.90, and the corrected one is the official figure. We show only what each university's own list says, with its date and a link.
Does my IMAT 2026 score count for 2027?
No. Article 3(7) of Decree 1005 says eligibility covers only the current selection and gives no right to a seat in later years. Anyone not admitted for 2026/27 would take the test again in a later year, under that year's decree, which sets its own date, places and procedure.
Do Marco Polo seats count in the non-EU places?
Yes, where a university sets them aside. Tabella B gives one non-EU figure per course, and some universities then reserve part of it for the Marco Polo programme for students from China: Bari 3 of its 11 places, Cagliari 2 of its 18 and Pavia 5 of its 40. Pavia moves unused Marco Polo seats to other non-EU applicants.
