About the programme
Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics (Odontoiatria e protesi dentaria) is a six-year single-cycle master's degree in class LM-46, worth 360 ECTS and taught entirely in English. It belongs to Sapienza's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and is based in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Sciences in Rome. Enrolment is capped by Italian law, in line with EU standards, and entry is by the IMAT admission test.

How the programme is taught
Professional teaching takes place in the Dental Clinic and at the George Eastman Hospital, part of the Head-Neck Department of the Umberto I Polyclinic. Students build their professional skills through Practical Evaluative Internships (PEI) and a Practical Evaluative Test (PET). The sixth year is almost entirely clinical and problem-solving work, to check clinical and communication skills.
After the PET, the final degree exam qualifies graduates to practise dentistry under Law 163/2021. Erasmus+ and internships give chances to train abroad.
Career paths
Graduates can practise as dentists with the right of establishment in EU countries. The course catalogue lists:
- Work in National Health Service facilities, public bodies and public or private companies
- Research in clinical or preclinical dentistry
- Private practice, which ISTAT data show is the most common choice in Italy
- Further training in specialisation schools such as oral surgery, paediatric dentistry or orthodontics, or a PhD
Fees and scholarships
Students whose income is abroad pay a flat yearly fee by country band: under the 2025/26 rules, the latest published, €300 in Band A (including countries like India, Nigeria and Pakistan), €700 in Band B and €1,500 in Band C. The 2026/27 rules come after 30 September 2026. DiSCo Lazio grant winners, and students who meet its requirements, pay €30.

Dentistry is not part of Sapienza's MoveIn pre-selection for English-taught degrees. Admission follows the degree's call for applications, published on the course catalogue, which sets the IMAT arrangements, the places for EU and non-EU candidates, the dates and the ranking. The same call sets the score thresholds that lead to additional learning requirements (OFA).
Non-EU applicants living abroad also complete Universitaly pre-enrolment and apply for a type D study visa. Sapienza accepts CIMEA statements, and qualifications from countries outside the ARDI database need a declaration of value.
