The University of Messina costs from €156 (₹17,000) a year in the no-tax area to €2,806 (₹3.1 lakh) at the top band (ISEE over €60,000) in 2026/27. International students pay a flat fee by country group instead, €256 (₹28,000) for India, and study can be tuition-free for eligible students who win an ERSU Messina scholarship.

Students who do not meet the regularity and merit conditions pay a contribution in every band, €200 or €275 even below an ISEE of €24,000, and up to €3,006 (₹3.3 lakh) a year in total at the top band. The contribution is paid in one instalment by 29 January 2027, with 20% off (flat international fees excluded), or in three by 29 January, 31 March and 30 June 2027 (UniME, Tasse ed esenzioni 2026/27).

Since 2025/26, Messina has set the yearly fee for international students by country of origin, not by family income: €156 (₹17,000) for Group A, €256 (₹28,000) for Group B, which includes India, €356 (₹39,000) for Group C and €506 (₹56,000) for Group D. The €156 is paid at enrolment, and the rest is invoiced on ESSE3 about a month before each due date. Source: UniME, fees and funding for international students.
Worked example: A first-year bachelor's student from India pays €256 (₹28,000) a year in 2026/27, because Messina sets international fees by country group and India is in Group B: a €100 contribution plus €156. The fee does not follow the family's income, but an ISEE parificato is still needed for the ERSU Messina scholarship. We prepare the documents with you, file them with the university and prepare the ERSU Messina scholarship application with you at the same time.
Non-EU students living abroad apply to the University of Messina programme by programme, then pre-enrol on Universitaly so the consulate can issue a study visa. Yes, most do. Among Messina's master's graduates of 2024, 66.4% were in work about a year later, with mean net pay of €1,355 (₹1.5 lakh) a month, according to AlmaLaurea. Five years after graduating, 86.6% of the 2020 master's graduates were in work, earning €1,622 (₹1.8 lakh) a month on average.

Messina students apply for the regional DSU scholarship through ERSU Messina. For 2026/27 the family ISEE limit is €22,500 (₹24.7 lakh), and the top grant for a student living away from home is at least €7,171.11 (₹7.9 lakh), the national minimum. Winners are also exempt from the university's yearly contribution, so study can be tuition-free for eligible students.

Messina also runs Casa UniME, which refunds out-of-town students, Italian and international, up to €2,000 (₹2.2 lakh) a year of rent, based on income and a lease of at least 10 months (UniME scholarships page). We check each new Casa UniME call for the students we work with.

For the study visa, the consulate asks you to show at least €10,179.85 (₹11.2 lakh) a year for living costs in Messina or any other Italian city. That is a floor, not a full budget: rent is the biggest cost, and a DSU residence place is much cheaper than a private room.

The University of Messina has 61 places for non-EU applicants living abroad on its English-taught Medicine and Surgery course in 2026/27, filled through the IMAT held on 29 September 2026.
