Medicine and Surgery is a six-year single-cycle medical degree. First-year admission requires an Italian secondary-school diploma or a suitable recognised foreign qualification and the required admission test. The latest first-year English call on the official admissions page is the 2026/27 version updated on 9 September 2026. It provides 75 places for EU/EU-equivalent candidates and 25 for non-EU candidates residing abroad for Medicine and Surgery at Venice. These are the 2026/27 quotas, not confirmed 2027/28 places. As reviewed on 6 October 2026, the official page provides the 2026/27 selection and its forthcoming results stages. A 2027/28 medicine selection timetable is not yet supplied there. Medicine is an exception to the university’s usual Apply Unipd application route, so the general September to November 2027/28 master’s calls do not establish a medical application deadline. [2, 4]

Registration, preferences and applicant category

For 2026/27, test registration was through Universitaly from 26 August to 9 September 2026 at 15:00 Italian time, GMT+2. Applicants had to complete registration and pay the test fee using the portal’s instructions. Payment alone did not replace the submitted registration. Those application dates have passed. [1]

Candidates entered programme/location preferences in order. The confirmed preferences could not be changed after the registration deadline. For applicants taking the test in Italy, the first-choice university determined the test location; the Venice course’s first-choice test was held in Padua. Applicants selecting an authorised foreign test centre followed the call’s centre list. [1]

EU/EU-equivalent candidates used the national merit ranking. Non-EU applicants abroad were eligible for the university’s local ranking associated with their pre-enrolment choice and also needed Universitaly pre-enrolment for the study-visa route. Your nationality and eligible residence status determine the category; the call lists EU and specified equivalent categories. [1]

2026/27 English admission test: format and marking

The test took place on 29 September 2026 at 13:30 Italian time, with foreign-centre time adjustments. It used 60 multiple-choice questions, five options per question and one answer selected, with 100 minutes allowed. The test and its subject preparation are in English. [1]

• Reading skills and knowledge from prior studies: 4 questions; logical reasoning and problems: 5; biology: 23; chemistry: 15; physics and mathematics: 13. [1]
• Maximum score: 90. Correct answer: +1.5; incorrect answer: −0.4; unanswered question: zero. [1]
• EU/EU-equivalent candidates needed at least 20 points for ranking eligibility. For the non-EU-abroad quota, that 20-point threshold did not apply: the score had to be above zero, and candidates answering no questions were excluded. These are eligibility thresholds, not admission scores; places depend on ranking and quota. [1]
• Ties first use subject-section scores in the order stated in the call, then recognised language certification, then the specified disability priority and finally younger age. Certificate claims had to be declared by the registration deadline. [1]

Preparation subjects in the official test syllabus

• English reading and reasoning: interpret varied texts, infer information, recognise coherence, understand historical/social/institutional topics and complete logically consistent arguments. [1, Annex 2]
• Biology: biomolecules and enzymes, cell structure and membranes, mitosis/meiosis, reproduction, Mendelian and molecular genetics, human inheritance, mutations/evolution, recombinant DNA, human systems and homeostasis, ATP and energy metabolism. [1, Annex 2]
• Chemistry: matter and gases, atomic structure and periodic trends, bonding, inorganic compounds, reactions and stoichiometry, solutions/equilibria, kinetics, redox, acids/bases and buffers, and organic structures/functional groups. [1, Annex 2]
• Mathematics: number systems, powers and logarithms, algebra, equations/inequalities, functions and graphs, plane/coordinate geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics. [1, Annex 2]
• Physics: measurement and vectors, motion, forces and conservation principles, work/energy, fluids, thermodynamics, electricity, circuits, magnetic fields and induction. These are the latest published 2026/27 syllabus topics; a future call may change them. [1, Annex 2]

English certificates: their stated role in this medical call

The 2026/27 call lists recognised English certificates for the language-certificate tie-break. It does not set a separate universal IELTS score as a first-year entry condition alongside the school diploma and admission test. Its Annex 1 is specific to this medical selection and differs from the university’s general master’s certificate list. [1]

Examples in that annex include Cambridge First/Advanced/Proficiency, specified Pearson General and Trinity ISE levels, IELTS B2 bands 5.5-6.5 and higher C1/C2 bands, and TOEFL B2 scores 87-109 with the listed C1 range. It also recognises at least one school year with English-language teaching activities for that certificate purpose. Results, ranking and acceptance deadlines

The 2026/27 call schedules coded test scores for 8 October 2026, candidate records/personal results for 19 October, and the national ranking and the university’s non-EU-abroad ranking for 26 October. At the review date, these were upcoming stages for people who had already registered and taken the September test. [1]

National-ranking candidates marked assigned must enrol within the stated four-day window, including assignment day but excluding Saturdays and public holidays. Booked candidates may enrol or wait for a better preference under the ranking rules. Candidates required to confirm continued interest must do so by noon of the fifth day after assignment, excluding Saturdays/public holidays, or lose their place in subsequent ranking movements. Final documents and additional learning requirements

Admitted foreign-qualified students submit the documentation requested by the Admissions and Welcome Unit, complete Uniweb enrolment and pay the required first instalment. Non-EU students abroad also complete the visa pre-enrolment route. Original qualifications and required translations/authentication must be checked; an unsuitable or incomplete qualification file prevents final enrolment even after a favourable test ranking. [1, 5]

Additional learning requirements, called OFA, are assigned for test-section scores below 12.65/34.5 in biology, 8.25/22.5 in chemistry or 7.15/19.5 in physics/mathematics. OFA are remedial learning requirements after assessment, separate from overall ranking eligibility. Their completion and progression consequences are governed by the programme regulations. [1]

Previous university study, transfers and test adjustments

Recognition of previous university examinations and entry to later years require a separate credit assessment, available places and the dedicated later-year call. They are not an automatic route around first-year selection. [1]

The 2026/27 call allowed documented requests for disability or specific-learning-disorder test adjustments by the registration deadline, including up to 50% additional time for disability and 30% for a specific learning disorder. Do I need a bachelor’s degree first?

No. This is a single-cycle medical degree. First-year eligibility requires an Italian secondary-school diploma or a suitable recognised foreign school qualification, plus the admission test and a qualifying ranking position.

How many places does this programme have?

The 2026/27 call gives 75 EU/EU-equivalent places and 25 non-EU-abroad places for Medicine and Surgery in Venice. Those quotas are not confirmed for 2027/28.

What is the test format?

The 2026/27 English test had 60 questions in 100 minutes: reading/general knowledge, logic, biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Scores were +1.5 correct, −0.4 incorrect and zero unanswered. We check future-cycle specifications in the new call.

What score makes me eligible?

For 2026/27, EU/EU-equivalent candidates needed at least 20 points. Non-EU candidates abroad needed a score above zero and could not leave every question unanswered. Eligibility is not an offer of admission; ranking and available places determine the offer.

Is IELTS a separate mandatory entry requirement?

The 2026/27 call does not impose a standalone IELTS requirement. Recognised English certificates have a stated tie-break role, while entry requires the recognised school qualification and medical admission test. We follow the medical call’s own language rules.

Can I still register for the 2026 test?

No. Registration closed on 9 September 2026 and the test was on 29 September. The latest call schedules ranking publication for 26 October. As reviewed on 6 October, the official page has not supplied a 2027/28 first-year call.
