You need a secondary school diploma obtained after at least 12 years of schooling that gives access to university in the country where you earned it. [1]
Everyone with a foreign qualification must first request its pre-evaluation on Bari's online application platform. Each pre-evaluation request is valid for one course. [1]
The call sets no minimum grade or subject list: your place depends on your admission test score. [1]
What this means for your school results
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: an Indian Class 12 certificate from CBSE, CISCE or a state board after 12 years of schooling, a Pakistani HSSC, a Bangladeshi HSC, or Sri Lankan or Cambridge A levels, when they give access to university at home.
- Check carefully: a diploma from an open school or a vocational stream, where access to university in your own country needs confirming.
- Often short: a Class 10 certificate on its own, or any qualification after fewer than 12 years of schooling in total.

To enrol in an English-taught course, the international students annex asks for an English language certificate or proof that you attended an English-medium school for at least one school year. It does not set a minimum level. [1]
The ministry list of recognised certificates starts at B2, for example IELTS 5.5 to 6.5 or TOEFL 87 to 109 at B2. You declare a certificate when you register for the test, and it only counts to break a tie in scores. A year at an English-medium school is automatically treated as a certificate. [1][3]
The admission test
Entry is through a single national admission test. For 2026/27 it was held on 29 September 2026 and lasted 100 minutes, starting at 1:30 pm. When you register you can choose a test site abroad from the ministry list. [1]
- 60 multiple-choice questions with five options each: 4 on reading skills and knowledge from school studies, 5 on logical reasoning and problems, 23 on biology, 15 on chemistry and 13 on physics and mathematics.
- Scoring: 1.5 points for a correct answer, minus 0.4 for a wrong one and zero for a blank, up to 90 points.
- Non-EU applicants living abroad compete only in Bari's local ranking and qualify with any score above zero. Italian, EU and equivalent applicants need at least 20 points.
- Ties are broken by the biology, chemistry, physics and maths, logic and reading scores in turn, then by a declared language certificate, then by recognised disability, then by age, with the younger candidate first.
Students admitted with less than 40% of the available score receive additional learning obligations in biology, physics and chemistry. They must clear them during the first year before taking second-year exams. [2]

For 2026/27 the call set 8 places for non-EU applicants living abroad, 89 for EU and non-EU applicants living in Italy and 3 for Chinese students on the Marco Polo project. Non-EU places left unused can pass to the other quota. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
- Test registration on Universitaly: 26 August to 3:00 pm Italian time on 9 September 2026, with payment of the test fee. Test site choices cannot be changed after that.
- Admission test: 29 September 2026.
- Scores: 8 October 2026, with test papers visible on Universitaly from 19 October 2026.
- National merit ranking: 26 October 2026, for Italian, EU and equivalent applicants. Bari sets the separate ranking for non-EU applicants living abroad.

Documents and non-EU steps
- Non-EU applicants living abroad who need a visa first get a positive pre-evaluation of their diploma, then pre-enrol on Universitaly for a type D study visa with the same documents. For limited-entry courses, the annex ties the pre-enrolment deadline to test registration.
- The 2026/27 call also lists an Italian language test for these applicants, waived with an Italian certificate at B2 or above, while the international students annex applies that test to Italian-taught courses. We confirm which rule applies before you register.
- To enrol you pay the first instalment by the deadline and provide your ID, Italian tax code, study visa and the receipt of your residence permit request.
- School documents: your diploma and the reports for your last two years, with a sworn translation into Italian or English, plus a CIMEA statement of comparability or ARDI certificate, or a declaration of value, and a CIMEA verification certificate or legalisation or Apostille of the diploma.
- For reduced fees you also file an ISEE parificato through a tax assistance centre.

About the programme
Medicine and Surgery, known as the Bari English Medical Curriculum (BEMC), is a six-year single-cycle degree in class LM-41, worth 360 ECTS and taught in English. It belongs to the Interdisciplinary Department of Medicine within the School of Medicine of the University of Bari Aldo Moro, and teaching takes place at the Policlinico di Bari university hospital.
Places are limited and set each year by national decree. For 2026/27, Bari offered 8 places for non-EU applicants not living in Italy, 89 for EU and non-EU applicants resident in Italy, and 3 for students on the Marco Polo project. It suits students who want to train as doctors in English at a large hospital campus in southern Italy.

How the programme is taught
Each credit equals 25 hours of student work, and attendance is mandatory. At least 72 credits go to practical professional training, where each credit is 25 hours of supervised practice. [2] You also earn 8 elective credits from year one through seminars, conferences, specific courses and clinical placements.
Curricular traineeships cover medical, surgical and general practice settings, and the course publishes Erasmus+ mobility calls for study abroad.
Career paths
The LM-41 degree is the Italian route to becoming a medical doctor. Under the 2026/27 regulations, the final exam has the value of the state exam that qualifies you to practise as a doctor, once you pass the three-month practical-evaluative internship worth 15 credits. Fees and scholarships
Fees follow family income (ISEE), so the degree can be tuition-free for eligible students. Students with income or assets in Italy are assessed on ISEE or ISEE parificato, with full exemption for an ISEE of €26,000 or less. An ADISU Puglia scholarship, when awarded, also brings a full exemption.
How to apply from outside the EU
Entry depends on the national admission test and a separate ranking for non-EU applicants living abroad. For 2026/27, registration ran on Universitaly from 26 August to 15:00 on 9 September 2026, and the test took place on 29 September 2026, with Bari as one of the venues.
