Turin's Medicine and Surgery degree asks for a school-leaving qualification after at least 12 years of schooling and a place in the admission test ranking, with a separate quota for non-EU applicants living abroad. School-leaving requirement

You need a secondary school diploma that gives access to a university course of the same level in your country, obtained after at least 12 years of schooling. [3]

• With fewer than 12 years of schooling, you also need either a declaration from a university in your country confirming you passed the first-year exams, or a post-secondary qualification from a non-university higher education institution, each with a certified translation.
• If your country requires an academic aptitude exam for university access, you need that exam for Italian universities too.
• Qualification documents are accepted in English, French, Italian or Spanish. Documents in other languages need the original and a certified translation.

What this means for your school results

As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: an Indian Class 12 certificate from CBSE, CISCE or a state board after 12 years of schooling, a Pakistani HSSC, a Bangladeshi HSC, or Sri Lankan or Cambridge A levels, if they give access to university at home.
• Check carefully: a school system with fewer than 12 years in total, where you also need a completed first university year or a post-secondary qualification, and countries where a national entrance exam is needed for university access.
• Often short: a Class 10 certificate on its own, or any qualification that does not give access to university in your country.

Biology, chemistry, physics and maths still matter, because they make up 51 of the 60 test questions. [1]

English and Italian

English at B2 is required and is assessed through the admission test. Students below B2 receive an additional learning requirement (OFA) to clear before the first-year English and Italian Medical Language exam. A score below 4 in the test's physics and mathematics section also leads to an OFA. [2]

If you hold one of the language certificates recognised by the ministerial decree, you declare it when you register for the test. It only counts to break a tie. [1]

Teaching is in English, but you need Italian at B2 before the clerkships with patients that start in year 3. Passing the English and Italian Medical Language or Clinical Language unit meets this. [2]

The admission test

Entry is through a national admission test with identical content in every location, set by MUR decree 1005 of 6 August 2026. For 2026/27 it was held on 29 September 2026 and ran for 100 minutes. [1]

• 60 multiple-choice questions in English with five options each: 4 on reading skills and knowledge from school studies, 5 on logical reasoning and problems, 23 on biology, 15 on chemistry and 13 on physics and mathematics.
• Scoring: 1.5 points for a correct answer, minus 0.4 for a wrong one and zero for a blank, up to 90 points.
• Non-EU applicants living abroad compete in a separate local ranking set by the University of Turin and qualify with any score above zero. Italian, EU and equivalent applicants need at least 20 points.
• Ties are broken by the biology, chemistry, physics and maths, logic and reading scores in turn, then by a declared language certificate, then by the decree's disability preference, then by the younger candidate.

Places

For 2026/27 the decree set 105 places in Orbassano: 30 for non-EU applicants living abroad who need a study visa, 73 for EU and equivalent non-EU applicants, and 2 for Chinese applicants in the Marco Polo programme. [1]

• Apply@UniTo application: 19 February to 15 April 2026, in the call for bachelor's and single-cycle degrees. [4]
• Test registration on Universitaly: 26 August to 3:00 pm on 9 September 2026 (Italian time). Site preferences cannot be changed after that. [1]

Documents and non-EU steps

• Non-EU applicants living abroad apply on Apply@UniTo, where the university assesses their foreign qualification, and pre-enrol on Universitaly for the study visa. A validated pre-enrolment is not by itself a visa or an enrolment. [4]
• If you are admitted, you complete the enrolment application on MyUniTo within four days, counting the day the ranking is updated, by 3:00 pm. You must pay the first instalment by the deadline, or you lose the place. [5]
• Enrolment needs an ID photo, an identity document, your Italian tax code, a vaccination certificate and a tuberculosis test certificate (Mantoux or QuantiFERON). Holders of a foreign qualification submit their documents for checking before payment is enabled. [5]

What school results do I need for Medicine and Surgery at Turin?

How are the fees set?

Does the degree qualify me to practise as a doctor?
