Medicine and Surgery, presented by Univpm as Medicine and Technology (MedTech), is a six-year single-cycle degree (laurea magistrale a ciclo unico, class LM-41) worth 360 ECTS. It is run by the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of Marche Polytechnic University in Ancona and taught entirely in English, with restricted access through a national admission test.
The course sets out to train a new kind of doctor by joining medical training with biomedical engineering, both long established at Univpm. Graduates should be expert users of technology in clinical medicine and research, and able to help design new tools in areas such as genomics, bioinformatics, big data, artificial intelligence and remote care. It suits science-minded school leavers who want a full medical degree with a strong technical side.
What you will study
The first three years integrate medicine with bioengineering; the last three focus on clinical training and professional activities, applying the integrated approach to practice. Units in the 2026/27 study plan include:

- General Pathology and Pathophysiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Pathological Anatomy
- Mathematical Models in Medicine and Data Science for Bioengineering in year 4
- Organ system diseases, clinical neurosciences, oncology, radiology and specialty clinics
- Year 6 clinical medicine and surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, geriatrics, and medical and surgical emergencies
How the programme is taught
Teaching relies on simulators, procedural software, skills labs and bioengineering laboratories, including virtual reality. Professional activities run through every year and grow in the clinical years; year 6 includes a 15 ECTS practical evaluation internship and a 13 ECTS final exam. Lectures are held on site, with online access only for students still waiting for their visa.
Students can also take 30 optional credits on top of the 360 required. Those who complete them can ask, at the end of the six years, for the three-year degree in Biomedical Engineering as well.

Univpm charges by nationality and income. Under its international FAQ, non-EU citizens of non-OECD countries pay €156 in the first year, and keep a reduced rate later if they earn enough credits. Citizens of OECD countries submit an ISEE parificato or pay the course maximum. Income-based grants come from ERDIS Marche, the regional agency, and the degree can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
Entry is through the IMAT, the national admission test for medicine in English. The course page lists 80 places, 50 of them reserved for non-EU students. For 2026/27 Univpm opened restricted-access applications from its third window in June 2026 and asked applicants to apply on its own portal and on Universitaly at the same time; non-EU visa applicants could apply until the competition deadline of 9 September 2026.
After a successful ranking, the university validates your Universitaly pre-enrolment so you can request a type D study visa, then you enrol in Ancona. The 2027/28 notice is not out yet.
