School-leaving requirement

What this means for your school results
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a Class 12 or Higher Secondary certificate that gives access to university in the country that awarded it, such as an Indian CBSE, CISCE or state board certificate, a Pakistani HSSC, a Bangladeshi HSC, or Sri Lankan or Cambridge A levels.
- Check carefully: a diploma from a shorter school system, or one that needs an extra year or exam before university in its own country, since the rules for foreign qualifications decide whether it is valid for access in Italy.
- Often short: a Class 10 certificate on its own, or any qualification that does not give access to university in the country that awarded it.

The admission test
Entry is through a single national admission test with identical content at every site, prepared by the Ministry of University and Research under Ministerial Decree No. 1005 of 6 August 2026. [1]
- Format: 60 multiple-choice questions with five options each, in 100 minutes.
- Subjects: reading skills and knowledge from school studies (4 questions), logical reasoning and problems (5), biology (23), chemistry (15), and physics and maths (13).
- Scoring: 1.5 points for a correct answer, minus 0.4 for a wrong one and 0 for a blank, up to 90 points.
- Minimum score: for the places reserved for non-EU applicants living abroad, any score above zero qualifies, and a blank paper is not ranked. EU and equivalent applicants need at least 20 points.
- Rankings: a single national ranking for EU and equivalent applicants, and a ranking set by Tor Vergata for applicants living abroad.
- Ties: decided by the biology, chemistry, physics and maths, logic and reading scores in turn, then by a declared language certificate, then in favour of the younger candidate.
- Test site: at Tor Vergata in Rome or at a site abroad from the call's list. If you sit it in Italy, your first preference is your test site.
Places in 2026/27
The call set 20 places in Rome for applicants living abroad who need a visa and 65 for EU applicants and non-EU applicants legally resident in Italy. It also listed 320 visa places for Tor Vergata's teaching site in Tirana, Albania, which is separate from this Rome programme. These numbers are the minimum places available. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
- Test registration on Universitaly: 26 August to 3:00 pm on 9 September 2026 (Italian time), completed by paying the test fee. Site preferences could not be changed after that.
- Requests for test adjustments for disability or specific learning disorders: by 9 September 2026.
- Admission test: 29 September 2026. In Rome, check-in was at 10:00 and the test began at 13:30, with local times adjusted at sites abroad.
- Scores: 8 October 2026, with test papers visible on Universitaly from 19 October 2026.
- National ranking for EU and equivalent applicants: 26 October 2026, with the next round on 3 November 2026.
- Ranking for applicants living abroad: set by the university; the call gives no date.

Non-EU applicants and enrolment
- On test day, non-EU candidates bring their passport. Applicants living abroad who need a visa also bring a copy of their Universitaly pre-enrolment application.
- To enrol, you complete the university's evaluation questionnaire, apply on the Delphi student portal, pay the first instalment through PagoPA and validate the payment, then upload a passport photo and your ID for checking at the Medical Area student office.
- You also hand in the signed enrolment application and the payment slip at the Medical Area student office in Rome by the deadline.
- With a foreign qualification, you provide the documents listed in the call's Annex B and complete enrolment through the Foreign Students Office.
- Within 60 days of enrolling, you provide a Mantoux tuberculin test from a national health service facility and a hepatitis B vaccination certificate.

Medicine and Surgery is a six-year single-cycle degree (laurea magistrale a ciclo unico, class LM-41) worth 360 credits and taught entirely in English at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. How the programme is taught
Teaching is patient-oriented and uses community health centres, GP surgeries and hospitals. Methods include tutorials, clinical triggers, problem-oriented learning and seminars, with area tutors and personal tutors. Attendance at lectures and training is compulsory before you can sit exams.
Clinical practice needs basic Italian from the third year, and the university offers a free Italian course to its students. The degree page lists a double degree with CLAEH University.
Career paths
Graduates work as medical doctors in clinical, healthcare and biomedical settings. The degree is also the required entry qualification for Italy's postgraduate medical specialty schools.
Fees and scholarships
Medicine is on the list of Tor Vergata degrees with a yearly flat rate for non-EU students who choose not to declare family income. Declaring income through the ISEE parificato gives an income-based fee instead. On the flat rate, LazioDisco winners are exempt only from the regional fee. Through the income route, the degree can be tuition-free for eligible students.
