Single-cycle Master in Medicine and Surgery "F" at Sapienza University of Rome

About the programme

Medicine and Surgery "F" (Medicina e Chirurgia "F") is a six-year single-cycle master's degree in class LM-41, worth 360 ECTS and taught in English in Rome. It is run by the Department of Anatomical, Histological, Forensic and Orthopaedic Sciences and shared by Sapienza's Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine, Medicine and Dentistry, and Medicine and Psychology. Access is by admission test.

Programme F is open to applicants from the European Union and from many non-EU countries, and aims to build an educational community that values multiculturalism and cross-cultural communication. It suits students who want to train as doctors in English and are ready for intensive study, attendance and ward work.

What you will study

The early years cover the basic sciences, followed by pathology, laboratory medicine and clinical methods, and then applied pathology by organ system and the clinical specialities. A Medical Humanities curriculum runs alongside, and a unit in Italian language skills starts in the first year. Units in the study plan include:

How the programme is taught

Sixty ECTS are devoted to practical training, split into clinical internships and qualifying internships. From the first years students use laboratory instruments and attend the wards of the affiliated teaching hospitals, Policlinico Umberto I and Sant'Andrea. From the second year they can use the simulation skill lab through the BLS course, and in the third year they practise physical examination on peers and patients.

To help students learn Italian, third-year students work in Italian with a professional actor playing a simulated patient. From the fourth year they train on simulators and spend two consecutive weeks in emergency-related wards with clinical tutors, at a ratio of one tutor to one or at most two students.

Career paths

Graduates have the scientific and practical training to practise medicine in line with Directive 75/363/EEC. The university lists these paths:

Fees and scholarships

Sapienza sets a flat yearly fee by country band for students whose income is abroad. Its most recent rules (2025/26) set €300 for Band A, where countries like India, Nigeria and Pakistan sit, €700 for Band B and €1,500 for Band C, in three instalments; the 2026/27 rules follow after 30 September 2026. DiSCo Lazio grant winners, and students who meet its requirements, pay €30.

How to apply from outside the EU

Medicine and Surgery "F" does not use Sapienza's MoveIn pre-selection. Entry is by an admission test for a limited number of places, under a call for applications published on the degree page each year, which sets the test date, the places for non-EU students living abroad and the deadlines.

Visa applicants also complete Universitaly pre-enrolment and apply for a type D study visa. Sapienza accepts CIMEA statements, and qualifications from countries outside the ARDI database need a declaration of value.
