Which Italian office handles you
Two rules decide which Italian office handles you. The study visa goes to the office for the state where you live. The DOV goes to the office for the state that issued your degree or school certificate. One student can therefore deal with two offices, and we plan both files together from the start.
Example: a student living in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, with a Bachelor degree from a university in Maharashtra applies for the visa through a VFS centre under the Embassy in New Delhi. The DOV for that degree comes from the Consulate General in Mumbai, which covers Maharashtra.

Study visa checklist for New Delhi (2026/27)
The Embassy's checklist covers the 2026/27 and 2027/28 intakes and lists 10 documents. Study certificates must be attested and apostilled for a fresh admission, and the details must match across every document. Below is each item in the Embassy's own order, condensed, with what we prepare or check for eligible students.

What New Delhi asks that the other offices do not
- Minors travelling alone: both parents are summoned to the Embassy to sign the consent letter. A minor travelling with one parent needs an original apostilled consent letter from the other parent. Mumbai and Bengaluru accept a notarised, apostilled parental consent or a declaration signed before the consular officer instead.
- E-Sanad attestation is not accepted for the DOV. The HRD stamp must come from the Regional Authentication Centre (Department of Education) of the state that issued the degree. Mumbai and Bengaluru accept documents apostilled through E-Sanad.
- The apostille on DOV documents should name both the authority that issued the degree or marksheet (for example the Registrar or the Controller of Examinations) and the authority that attested it (the HRD).
- The DOV checklist lists, as its own item, information on whether the Indian institution is private, autonomous or state governed. Mumbai and Bengaluru cover this with a tick box on the DOV form.
DOV checklist for New Delhi
A DOV (declaration of value, dichiarazione di valore) is an informative document that describes an Indian qualification and the years of study behind it for an Italian university. The Italian office for the state that issued the degree issues it, so the Embassy handles degrees from its own jurisdiction. The original documents are shown at submission.

E-Sanad attestation is not accepted in New Delhi: the HRD stamp must come from the Regional Authentication Centre (Department of Education) of the state that issued the degree, and the apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs should name both the issuing and the attesting authority. The Embassy asks for 2 copies of the degree and of the transcripts. For a study DOV the checklist lists no Italian translation; it asks for one only for work or research, and refers to the Embassy's list of translators. The Embassy issues DOVs without a consular fee only for verified study reasons. The processing time is not stated in the checklist. What documents do I need for a study visa in New Delhi?
The Embassy's 2026/27 checklist asks for 10 items: passport, application form with one photo, proof of admission with the Universitaly summary, attested and apostilled degree and transcripts, proof of at least 10,179.85 EUR, medical insurance, a one-way flight booking, 30 days of accommodation, B2 language proof and a recommended covering letter.

How much money must I show for an Italian study visa in New Delhi?
At least 10,179.85 EUR a year, about INR 11,19,666 at the FBIL reference rate of 18 Sep 2026. The Embassy wants 6 months of original bank statements stamped and signed by the branch manager, proof of income such as 2 years of ITR, and enough extra money for the flight on top of the minimum.

Can someone else book my visa appointment in New Delhi?
No. The Embassy's checklist says every applicant must book the student visa appointment with their own personal email ID and phone number, and it strongly discourages agents. You book in your own name and attend in person. For eligible students, we prepare the whole file, check every document against this checklist and get you ready for the appointment.
How long does the Italian study visa take in New Delhi?
Up to 90 days, according to the Embassy's checklist, and the Embassy asks applicants not to seek faster processing ahead of those who applied earlier. Bachelor and Master applications for 2026/27 are not accepted after 30 Nov 2026, and for 2027/28 after 31 Oct 2027. We plan every file backwards from those dates.
The deadlines do not apply to PhD, specialisation courses, Erasmus programmes, single courses or foundation courses.
What if my name differs across my documents?
Any difference in your name, or your sponsor's name, between the passport and another document needs a one and the same certificate, attested and apostilled. For the DOV, the Embassy also accepts a letter from your Indian university stating the match, or a certificate from the Tehsildar or SDM where you live. Affidavits are not accepted.

Is E-Sanad accepted for the DOV in New Delhi?
No. The Embassy's DOV checklist says E-Sanad attestation will not be accepted. Degree certificates and transcripts need the HRD stamp from the Regional Authentication Centre (Department of Education) of the state that issued them, and an apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs that names both the issuing and the attesting authority. Mumbai and Bengaluru accept E-Sanad.
Do I need a DOV or a CIMEA statement?
Only if your Italian university asks for one. The Embassy's visa checklist lists a copy of a CIMEA statement of comparability, a DOV already issued by an Italian mission, or a CV, when the university requires it. Which one applies depends on the university, and we find out what yours requires before either is started.

Frequently asked questions about the New Delhi office
Can an education loan count towards the 10,179.85 EUR?
Yes, but only if the loan amount is deposited and visible on the bank statements you submit. Otherwise the Embassy weighs it case by case. For eligible students, we check that the disbursement shows on the statements before the file is complete.
Who can sponsor my studies for a New Delhi visa?
If the sponsor lives in India, only relatives up to the 4th degree of kinship. Italian or foreign nationals legally living in Italy, institutions, Italian universities, local government bodies and recognised foreign authorities can also sponsor with verifiable documents. The sponsor adds 6 months of bank statements, ID proof, a sponsorship letter and proof of income.
What health insurance does the Embassy accept?
Schengen-compliant travel medical insurance or a policy from an Italian insurance company, with no limit on urgent hospital care, valid for at least one year or for the whole course if it is shorter. We check the cover dates against the course start before the appointment.
I am under 18. What extra documents does New Delhi ask for?
An original birth certificate, attested and apostilled, plus a copy; proof of sole custody where there is one legal guardian; an application form signed by both parents; an apostilled consent letter from the other parent if you travel with one parent; and a guardianship acceptance letter from your guardian in Italy with ID. If you travel alone, both parents are summoned to the Embassy.
Can I apply with a provisional certificate?
Yes. For the visa, a provisional certificate officially issued by your institution, attested by HRD and apostilled, is accepted, and the original is submitted once issued. For the DOV, a provisional certificate in original with HRD authentication is accepted if the final certificate has not been issued yet.
Does the 30 November deadline apply to every course?
No. It applies to Bachelor (laurea triennale) and Master (laurea magistrale) applications: 30 Nov 2026 for the 2026/27 intake and 31 Oct 2027 for 2027/28. It does not apply to PhD, specialisation courses, Erasmus programmes, single courses or foundation courses.
