ERSU Catania Scholarship 2026/27: Amounts, Deadlines and Documents

Who can apply to ERSU Catania from countries like India?

Students from countries like India can apply if they enrol in 2026/27 at an institution the bando (official call) covers, such as the University of Catania, and the family ISEE (the Italian family income indicator) is 25,000.00 EUR or less and the ISPE (the family assets indicator) 60,000.00 EUR or less (Tab. 1; art. 8, Tab. 6).

Part-time enrolment and single courses are excluded (art. 10 n. 2), as are students with a degree of the same or higher level, including a foreign one recognised by the university (art. 10 n. 1). India is not on the particularly poor countries list (Tab. 8).

Students at the University of Palermo apply to ERSU Palermo instead.

How much is the ERSU Catania grant in 2026/27?

A fuori sede (living away from home) student with ISEE up to 12,500 EUR has a gross grant of 8,246.78 EUR a year (about INR 9,07,000); the base is 7,171.11 EUR and the minimum 3,585.56 EUR (art. 21). The cash actually paid in the top band is 5,346.78 EUR plus meals (Tab. 9.1).

• Tab. 9.1 states that international students whose family does not live in Italy are treated as fuori sede, with 5,346.78 EUR plus meals in the top band (Bando 2026/27, Tab. 9.1).
• Pendolare (commuter): 4,819.32 EUR gross at the top band, 4,219.32 EUR in cash; in sede (living at home): 3,323.68 EUR gross, 2,723.68 EUR in cash (art. 21; Tab. 9.1).
• A student eligible for housing who got no bed because none was available, and who files a valid lease declaration, also receives a 1,700.00 EUR housing refund (art. 30).
• A disability adds 40%, and female STEM students or double enrolment 20%, instead of the 15%; the call prints no amounts for these cases (art. 21).

Which documents does the family need from abroad for ERSU Catania?

The family's income and asset documents, issued by the competent home-country authorities, translated into Italian and legalised, go to the CAF (tax assistance centre) that ERSU Catania designates, which calculates the ISEE parificato (the income statement for families outside Italy). A parificato from any other CAF is refused (art. 8).

The call does not list the individual certificates; it refers to the MUR list of foreign authorities that issue them, updated 20 Dec 2024, and the designated CAF is named on ERSU's website, not in the call (art. 8). The full list, in the call's order, is in the documents section below.

When are the ERSU Catania deadlines for 2026/27?

Applications ran online from 19:00 on 24 Jun 2026 to 14:00 on 10 Aug 2026 (art. 3), and corrections from 12 to 22 Sep 2026, when the ISEE parificato values were also due (art. 4; art. 8). Regularisation with the residence permit and remaining documents stays open until 14:00 on 30 Nov 2026 (art. 16).

How and when is the ERSU Catania grant paid?

First-year winners receive 50% by 31 Dec 2026, calculated at the pendolare or in sede rate, once they are enrolled and their application is regularised (art. 24). The other 50%, at the fuori sede rate after a lease declaration or bed acceptance, follows the credit requirement. The call contains no 20% or 30% instalments.

The call prints 31 Dec 2026 as the expected date for this balance, which comes before the credit deadlines it depends on, so no reliable date is given. Payment goes to an account or prepaid card with an IBAN in the student's name; postal savings books are not accepted (art. 25).

How many credits do you need to keep the ERSU Catania grant?

First-years need 15 CFU (university credits) by 10 Aug 2027 and at least 20 CFU in total by 30 Nov 2027 to receive the second 50% (art. 24; Tab. 4). Credits count only once recognised for the course and registered by the student office. Students with a disability need 9 CFU and 12 in total.

Withdrawing from studies before 23 Apr 2027 also leads to revocation, even with the minimum credits (art. 13). More on credits to keep your grant.

What happens if you miss the credits in Catania?

With 20 CFU by 30 Nov 2027 but fewer than 15 by 10 Aug 2027, the student keeps the first 50%, the bed and the meals used but loses the second instalment (art. 24). With fewer than 20 CFU by 30 Nov 2027, benefits are revoked and the cash, bed and meals must be repaid (art. 24; Tab. 4).

A bed is valued at 170.00 EUR a month for repayment (art. 32). Tab. 4 also says students in the first case pay half the value of an assigned bed, which art. 24 does not say. Repayment can be spread over up to 10 instalments within 12 months for proven hardship (art. 13).

Can you get an ERSU Catania residence bed?

Yes. First-years request a bed in the same application, and winners and eligible students pay no rent (art. 30; art. 37). ERSU has 349 beds: 308 in Catania, 103 of them for first-time enrolled students, plus 16 in Ragusa and 25 in Siracusa (Tab. 15).

First-year beds are ranked by ISEE score, and a parificato not uploaded by 14:00 on 22 Sep 2026 moved the student to the bottom of the housing ranking (art. 19; art. 16). Winners then upload a photo, a recent medical certificate, an ID and the residence permit, and must be present on the assignment days ERSU sets, or they lose the bed (art. 34; art. 35).

Without a bed, fuori sede status needs a registered lease in the student's name covering 10 months between 1 Sep 2026 and 31 Oct 2027, declared online from 30 Nov 2026 to 31 Jan 2027 (art. 23).

Documents from abroad for the ERSU Catania 2026/27 call

ERSU Catania asks a family abroad for home-country income and asset documents, translated into Italian and legalised, turned into an ISEE parificato by the CAF ERSU designates. The values were due by 14:00 on 22 Sep 2026; the parificato, residence permit and ID can be uploaded to the Fascicolo until 14:00 on 30 Nov 2026 (art. 8; art. 16).

• Family income and asset documents issued by the competent authorities of the country where the family earns and holds them, as named in the MUR list of foreign authorities updated 20 Dec 2024, translated into Italian and legalised; the call does not itemise family composition, income, property or bank balances (art. 8).
• Declaration of any income or assets the family holds in Italy, always required (art. 8).
• If the parificato was not ready at application: the declarant's codice fiscale (Italian tax code) in the form, with the parificato values sent during the correction period (art. 8).
• Copy of a valid residence permit, or of the payment for its renewal, plus the ISEEU/ISPEU parificato (art. 16 b).
• Italian translation and legalisation of every foreign-language document (art. 16).
• Front and back copy of the identity document, for applicants who did not use SPID or CIE (Italian digital identity) (art. 16).
• Copy of a separation or divorce ruling, if the parents are separated or divorced (art. 16).
• Copy of the family income and asset documentation used for the parificato (art. 16).
• Where they go: the foreign documents to the CAF ERSU designates; the parificato and copies as single PDFs of up to 2 MB to the Fascicolo (document folder) of the student portal. Nothing is posted to ERSU (art. 8; art. 16).

Frequently asked questions about ERSU Catania

Can I apply to ERSU Catania as a part-time student?

No. Part-time enrolment and enrolment in single courses are excluded from this call (art. 10 n. 2). Enrolment for 2026/27 must also be completed by 23 Apr 2027, or the application is excluded or the grant revoked (art. 10 n. 15; art. 13).

Does ERSU Catania pay my University of Catania fees?

No. This call only refunds the regional DSU tax, automatically, to winners and eligible students, by 31 Dec 2027 for first-years (art. 26). Any exemption from other university fees is decided by the University of Catania under its own rules, and we check it for each eligible student at enrolment.

I applied to another DSU body too. Is that a problem for ERSU Catania?

It can be. Applying to another Italian DSU body for 2026/27 without declaring it in the ERSU Catania application means exclusion (art. 10 n. 17). The grant is also incompatible with other public or private scholarships for the same year, although the student can ask for the difference to be paid instead (art. 5).

Is the 1,700 EUR ERSU Catania housing refund automatic?

No. It goes only to students eligible for housing who got no bed because none was available, confirmed their interest, did not give up bed eligibility before 30 Nov 2026 and filed a valid lease declaration (art. 30; art. 23). It is not paid to anyone who receives other public housing aid.

Which bank account can receive the ERSU Catania grant?

A current account or a prepaid card with an IBAN, in the student's name alone or jointly, that can receive bank transfers; postal savings books are not accepted. The IBAN must be given within 12 months of the award, or benefits are revoked (art. 25; art. 10 n. 16). We help eligible students set this up.

Why is the first ERSU Catania payment at the pendolare rate?

Art. 24 pays the first 50% of every first-year winner who is not in sede at the pendolare rate until a lease declaration or bed acceptance. Art. 22 and Tab. 9.1 say students whose family lives abroad count as fuori sede anyway; the call does not say how the two rules combine, so we follow the student's status with ERSU through the year.
