Which Italian office handles you
The study visa goes to the office for the state where you live, and the DOV goes to the office for the state that issued your degree or school certificate. Bengaluru also checks the address: if the passport address is outside its jurisdiction, the file needs 6 months of proof of residence inside it.
Example: a student living in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with a Bachelor degree from a university in Kerala applies for the visa at VFS Chennai, under the Consulate General in Bengaluru. The DOV for that degree comes from the Consulate General in Mumbai, because Kerala falls under Mumbai.

Study visa checklist for Bengaluru (2026/27)
The Consulate General's checklist covers long stay (type D) and short stay (type C) study visas for the 2026/27 and 2027/28 intakes. It lists 12 items, more than New Delhi or Mumbai, in a different order. Below is each item in the Consulate's own order, condensed, with what we prepare or check for eligible students.

What Bengaluru asks that the other offices do not
- Address rule: the passport should be issued within the jurisdiction. If its address is elsewhere, or addresses differ across documents, the file needs 6 months of proof of residence in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh or Puducherry.
- Two passport photos with the application form; New Delhi and Mumbai ask for one.
- Photocopies of national or Schengen visas issued in the last 10 years, and refusal letters for any previous refusal.
- Students whose admission depends on an entrance or language test at the university in Italy apply for a type D visa, valid until 31 Jan 2027 for the 2026/27 intake. Students who must take an entrance test before their final certificate is issued apply for a type C (short stay) visa.
- Provisional certificates are accepted only if they clearly show the final mark and the ranking criteria and prove the course is fully completed, for the visa and for the DOV.
- For the DOV, the HRD or apostille stamp must be on the back of every study document, and an E-Sanad copy must show its QR code; the Consulate may also call a personal interview.
DOV checklist for Bengaluru
A DOV (declaration of value, dichiarazione di valore) is an informative document that Italian universities ask for in admissions. It describes an Indian qualification and the years of study behind it, and the Italian office for the state that issued the degree issues it. The student submits the DOV application in person through VFS.

E-Sanad is accepted in Bengaluru: an original colour copy apostilled online through E-Sanad goes in with the original certificate, and the QR code must be visible. The Consulate asks for 2 photocopies of the degree and of the transcripts. Documents issued in English need no Italian translation unless the university asks for one; the Consulate publishes a list of translators, which we work from. The HRD or apostille stamp must be on the back of every study document, and PhD candidates apply for a DOV for work purposes. The processing time is not stated in the checklist, and the Consulate may extend it to hold an interview or ask for more documents. What documents do I need for a study visa in Bengaluru?
The Consulate General's 2026/27 checklist lists 12 items: passport with residence proof if needed, application form with two photos, previous visas and refusals, a recommended cover letter, proof of admission, attested and apostilled education documents, exchange documents if relevant, proof of at least 10,179.85 EUR, insurance, flights, 30 days of accommodation and B2 language proof.

How much money must I show for an Italian study visa in Bengaluru?
At least 10,179.85 EUR a year, about INR 11,19,666 at the FBIL reference rate of 18 Sep 2026. The Consulate wants an original 6-month bank statement stamped and signed by the branch manager on all pages, proof of income such as 2 years of ITR, and enough extra money for the flight on top of the minimum.
A sponsor adds the last 6 salary slips to the income proof, and an education loan counts only if it is deposited and visible on the statements. The full rule: Italy student visa financial proof.
Can someone else book my visa appointment in Bengaluru?
No. The Consulate General's checklist says every applicant must book the student visa appointment with their own personal email ID and phone number, and it strongly discourages agents. You book in your own name and attend in person. For eligible students, we prepare the whole file, check every document against this checklist and get you ready for the appointment.
How long does the Italian study visa take in Bengaluru?
Up to 90 days, according to the Consulate General's checklist, which asks applicants not to seek faster processing ahead of those who applied earlier. The Consulate can also extend processing to hold a personal interview or ask for more documents. Bachelor and Master applications for 2026/27 are not accepted after 30 Nov 2026.
For 2027/28 the cut-off is 31 Oct 2027. The deadlines do not apply to PhD, specialisation courses, Erasmus programmes, single courses or foundation courses. We plan every file backwards from those dates.
What if my name differs across my documents?
Any difference in your name, or your sponsor's name, between the passport and another document needs a one and the same certificate, attested and apostilled. For the DOV, Bengaluru accepts SDM attestation on this certificate, which must be on the issuing authority's letterhead, or a university letter or Gazette notification instead. Affidavits are not accepted.

Is E-Sanad accepted for the DOV in Bengaluru?
Yes. The Consulate's 2026/27 DOV checklist accepts an original colour copy of the degree or transcript apostilled online through E-Sanad, submitted together with the original certificate and 2 photocopies. The QR code must be visible for verification. HED attestation is still mandatory, and SDM attestation on study documents is not accepted.
Do I need a DOV or a CIMEA statement?
Only if your Italian university asks for one. The Bengaluru visa checklist lists a copy of a CIMEA statement of comparability or a DOV already issued by an Italian mission when the university requires it, and asks for a one-page CV as a separate item. PhD candidates apply for a DOV for work purposes.

Frequently asked questions about the Bengaluru office
My admission depends on an entrance or language test in Italy. Which visa applies?
A type D (long stay) visa, which the Consulate issues valid until 31 Jan 2027 for the 2026/27 intake and 31 Jan 2028 for 2027/28. If you must take an entrance test before your final study certificate is issued, the checklist says to apply for a type C (short stay) visa instead.
My passport shows an address outside the five states. Can I still apply in Bengaluru?
Yes, if you live in the jurisdiction. The checklist asks for proof of residence in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh or Puducherry for the last 6 months: an Aadhaar card, rent agreement, electricity, water or broadband bill, or bank account. The same applies when addresses differ across your documents.
Do I have to include a previous visa refusal?
Yes, if you have one. The checklist asks for photocopies of refusal letters for any previous national or Schengen visa refusal, along with the visas issued to you in the last 10 years. For eligible students, we collect the full visa history so nothing in the new file contradicts it.
Can an education loan or a sponsor cover the funds?
Yes. A loan counts only if it is deposited and visible on your bank statements; otherwise it is weighed case by case. A sponsor living in India must be a relative up to the 4th degree, and adds a 6-month statement stamped on every page, ID proof, a sponsorship letter and income proof including the last 6 salary slips.
Can I apply with a provisional certificate?
Only if it clearly shows the final mark, states the ranking criteria and proves the course is fully completed. It must be attested by the HED and apostilled, and the original follows once issued. The DOV checklist sets the same conditions. We check provisional certificates against these points before they are apostilled.
I am under 18. What extra documents does Bengaluru ask for?
An original birth certificate, attested and apostilled; proof of sole custody where there is one legal guardian; an affidavit signed by both parents before a notary and apostilled, consenting to study abroad and naming the guardian in Italy, with the parents' ID; or a declaration before the consular officer; and the guardian's acceptance letter with ID.
Can the Consulate call me for an interview?
Yes. Both Bengaluru checklists say the Consulate General can extend processing to request a personal interview or additional documents. The visa checklist also notes that applicants have no legal right to a visa, only a legitimate interest in having the application processed lawfully.
