Engineering in Computer Science is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (class LM-32) taught entirely in English at the University of Messina. Entry needs a degree in class L-8 or L-31, or 30 credits in maths and physics plus 40 in computing, with English at B2. A final mark of 85 out of 110 passes the preparation check. International fees follow country groups, and the programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.
Entry requirements
Detailed entry requirements
The University of Messina's Engineering in Computer Science master asks for a degree in class L-8 or L-31 or a recognised foreign equivalent, or at least 30 credits in maths and physics and 40 in computing subjects, plus English at B2. A bachelor's final mark of at least 85 out of 110 passes the preparation check, and there is no entrance test. Reviewed 8 October 2026. [1]
Degree and credit requirements
You need one of the following. [1]
- Direct access: a three-year degree in class L-8 (information engineering) or L-31 (computer science), a three-year Italian university diploma, or a foreign qualification recognised as suitable for direct access to the master's.
- Credit route: at least 30 CFU in mathematics and physics (sectors MATH-02/A, MATH-02/B, MATH-03/A, MATH-04/A and PHYS-03/A) and at least 40 CFU in electronics, automation, computer engineering or computer science (sectors IINF-01/A, IINF-04/A, IINF-05/A and INFO-01/A).
These rules come from the course regulations issued in July 2025, which apply from the 2025/26 cohort. [1]
Final mark and preparation check
The check of your preparation counts as passed if your bachelor's final mark is at least 85 out of 110, or the equivalent for a foreign degree, and your English is at B2. [1]
If the check shows gaps, the course council, on the committee's proposal, sets an integrated path within the master's. You still graduate with 120 CFU and no extra activities. Admission is open, with no cap on places and no entrance test. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and the committee looks at the subjects you studied, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science, IT, Computer Engineering or Electronics, which usually includes engineering maths, physics and a large computing or electronics block.
- Check carefully: a BCA or B.Sc. in Computer Science, which often covers the 40 computing credits but can fall short of 30 credits in maths and physics. A B.Sc. in Physics or Mathematics, or a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, may cover the maths and physics but not the 40 computing credits.
- Often short: a B.Com, BBA or BA, which usually has neither block.
Your final mark matters too. The equivalent of 85 out of 110 depends on how your university's percentage or CGPA converts, so we check it against your transcript.
English
English at CEFR level B2, shown by passing university exams or qualifying tests, or by certificates recognised at European or international level. [1] For English-taught programmes, visa applicants upload an international English certificate at B2 from an institution UniME recognises, and some categories are exempt. [2] Neither source lists specific tests or scores.
