Entry requirements

Detailed entry requirements

Business Management at the University of Messina has Italian and English curricula. School-qualification eligibility, initial mathematics preparation and the language evidence for the chosen curriculum are separate requirements. The rules below draw on the course's admission guidance and UniME's international application procedures, reviewed 6 October 2026. [1][2][3]

Eligible school qualification

  • The programme accepts an appropriate upper-secondary qualification or a foreign qualification judged suitable by the university. For international applicants, UniME specifies twelve years of education. An official school-issued completion certificate may be submitted if the final diploma is not yet available. [1][2]
  • For a qualification covering fewer than twelve years, the international guidance allows supporting evidence of successful completion of all required first-year university examinations or a successfully completed foundation programme. Country-specific university entrance-examination evidence is required where the national education system requires it. [2]

Mathematics assessment and OFA

  • Initial preparation is checked through a CISIA test or an equivalent assessment. The programme publishes the applicable test type and passing threshold. Applicants should have elementary mathematics, logical reasoning and familiarity with ordinary computing tools. [1][3]
  • A negative preparation check leads to additional learning obligations, called OFA, to be completed in the first year. The course identifies equations, inequalities and elementary analytic geometry as relevant remedial mathematics topics. Failure to fulfil OFA leads to repeating the first year under the published course guidance. [1]

Language evidence depends on the curriculum

  • The English curriculum requires at least CEFR B2 certification from an accepted accredited provider. UniME's international English-language rules include specified exemption categories; a certificate or exemption must be evidenced as the current procedure requires. [2][3]
  • For an Italian-taught curriculum, the international application guidance instead requires an accepted B2 Italian certificate or the UniME Italian test, unless an exemption applies. English-language evidence does not automatically satisfy the Italian route. [2]

International application and documents

  • Use the UniME Application Portal for an English-taught programme, or Portale UniME dei Candidati for an Italian-taught programme. Submit the school qualification or accepted provisional certificate, transcript, country-specific entrance-test evidence where applicable, and the language evidence for the chosen route. [2]
  • The current university guidance asks for a passport with at least eighteen months of validity remaining. A translated document must be accompanied by its original-language version. For visa applicants, a positive evaluation is followed by the university's Universitaly instructions and the visa procedure. [2]

Intake rules and a practical final check

UniME's application page now includes the 2027/28 calls as well as the earlier 2026/27 timetable. The early-bird visa call has an additional documentary condition: final academic documents and a Declaration of Value or CIMEA Statement of Comparability must already be available. Check the call for your category before choosing an application window. [2]

Before submitting, label each file by what it proves: school completion, schooling duration, grades, language eligibility or identity. Keep a separate note of the mathematics assessment and any OFA. These are practical organisation steps; the university's procedure determines the formal requirements.

About the programme

Business Management is the English-taught curriculum of Management d'impresa, a three-year bachelor's degree at the University of Messina in class L-18-R, worth 180 ECTS and run by the Department of Economics. Access is open, without a limited number of places.

The degree has two curricula: Management d'impresa, taught in Italian, and Business Management, taught in English. The university's international office lists Business Management among its English-taught programmes, and students on this curriculum need a B2 English certificate.

What you will study

The 2026/27 study plan for the Business Management curriculum includes:

  • Year one: Business Economics and Principles of Accounting, Cost Analysis and Budgeting, Institutions of Private Law, Mathematics for Business, Principles of Economics, Technology of Production Cycles and Basic Computer Science Concepts.
  • Year two: Marketing, Macroeconomics, Commercial Law, Transport Law, Economics of Transport, Economics and Business Management, Human Resources Management and Introductory Statistics.
  • Year three: Finance, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Statistical Methods for Management, Tax Law, a choice of Agribusiness Management, Corporate Governance or Standards and Certifications for Sustainable Business, a traineeship and a thesis.

Career paths

The university prepares graduates to start a business or work as managers in any functional area of private and public firms, as business consultants in accounting, administration and strategic management, and as staff in economic, administrative and management roles in the private, public and non-profit sectors. Graduates can also sit the state exams for some professional registers.

Fees and scholarships

Messina charges non-EU students a flat yearly fee by country group, in force since 2025/26: €156 for Group A (the regional tax only), €256 for Group B, which includes countries like India, €356 for Group C and €506 for Group D. Eligible students can apply for a need-based grant from ERSU Messina, which decides awards each year.

How to apply from outside the EU

We apply for the English-taught route on the UniME Application Portal. For 2027/28 the application fee is €40 and covers up to two applications. Applicants who need a visa can apply in three rounds: 1 to 20 December 2026, 2 February to 19 March 2027 and 8 April to 8 May 2027. After a positive evaluation we pre-enrol you on Universitaly. You need a school qualification showing 12 years of study and a B2 English certificate, such as IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, B2 First or PTE Academic 59. Your starting knowledge is also checked, with a CISIA TOLC test or an equivalent; if the check is not passed you receive extra first-year work (OFA), which does not block admission.

If you live outside the EU and need a study visa, the university first evaluates your application. After a positive outcome we complete pre-enrolment on Universitaly, and you apply for a type D study visa at the Italian consulate or visa centre.

How ApplyAZ helps

If this programme fits your goals, ApplyAZ can include it in a shortlist of 20 to 30 English-taught programmes at Italian public universities. We write your CV and a tailored statement of purpose, submit your applications and Universitaly pre-enrolment, help you file your DSU scholarship application at the right time and in the right format, and prepare your visa file, with a named person on each stage. The university decides admission, the region decides the scholarship and the consulate decides the visa. See how ApplyAZ works or check your eligibility.

Questions and answers

What school qualification is accepted?

An appropriate upper-secondary qualification or a suitable foreign equivalent. UniME's international procedure normally requires twelve years of education, with specified supporting routes for shorter schooling. [1][2]

What English level is required?

For the English curriculum, at least CEFR B2. Use an accepted certificate or document an exemption permitted by the current UniME international language procedure. [2][3]

Do I need a mathematics test?

The course checks starting preparation through CISIA or an equivalent assessment. The programme publishes the test type and threshold. [1]

What happens if I fail the preparation check?

You receive OFA to complete during the first year. The published course guidance states that unfulfilled OFA lead to repeating the first year. [1]

Can I apply before receiving the final diploma?

UniME permits an official school-issued course-completion certificate in the bachelor's application. The 2027/28 early-bird visa call separately requires final academic documents and DoV or CIMEA comparability evidence. [2]

Which application portal should I use?

The UniME Application Portal for the English curriculum, or Portale UniME dei Candidati for the Italian curriculum. Visa applicants then follow the Universitaly instructions after a positive evaluation. [2]
