Pharmacy at the University of Rome Tor Vergata is a five-year, 300 ECTS single-cycle master's degree (LM-13) taught only in English, with a six-month pharmacy internship. Non-EU students pay a flat rate or an income-based fee, so it can be tuition-free for eligible students.

About the programme
Pharmacy is a five-year single-cycle master's degree (laurea magistrale a ciclo unico, class LM-13) worth 300 credits and delivered only in English at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. It belongs to the Department of Biology in the School of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences, on the university's campus in the south-east of Rome, and is a restricted-access programme.
The course was set up by the Schools of Medicine and Science in partnership with the School of Pharmacy of the University of Nottingham. It trains pharmacists with expertise in medicines and health products such as cosmetics, supplements, herbal and diagnostic products and medical devices, and suits school leavers with a strong interest in chemistry, biology and health.
What you will study
The early years build the chemistry, biology and physics base, then the course moves into drug design, pharmacology and pharmaceutical technology. It also adds medical subjects and regulatory science, which covers EU rules on how new medicines are developed and approved. Units in the current syllabus include:
- General and Bio-Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry
- Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Biochemistry I and II, and Molecular Biology
- Medicinal Chemistry I and II, and Drug Analysis
- General and Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuropsychopharmacology, and Special Pharmacology and Therapy
- Pharmaceutical Technology with Pharmaceutical Compounding Practices, and Biopharmaceutics and Preformulation
- Internal Medicine and Dermatopharmacology, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics
- Italian and European Pharmaceutical Legislation and Commercial Law, and Regulatory and Pharmacoeconomic Aspects
How the programme is taught
Attendance at lectures and laboratory sessions is mandatory. Teaching mixes lectures, workshops and e-learning sessions with national and international experts, plus visits to pharmaceutical companies.
The degree includes a practical training period (tirocinio) of at least six months, worth 30 credits, in a community or hospital pharmacy. It is required for the state exam that qualifies you to practise as a pharmacist, and from January 2026 you need at least 160 compulsory credits before you can start it. Each year, the course funds four-month research placements at the University of Nottingham for top fourth-year students, and Erasmus exchanges are open too.

Fees and scholarships
Pharmacy is one of the Tor Vergata degrees with a €2,500 yearly flat rate for non-EU students who do not declare family income, plus €156 regional tax and stamp duty. You can instead declare income through the ISEE parificato, and the fee then starts at €156. LazioDisco winners on the flat rate are exempt only from the €140 regional fee, while the income route can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
For 2026/27 there were 80 places, 20 of them for non-EU citizens living abroad who need a visa. Applicants took the CISIA CEnT-S between 1 November 2025 and 9 June 2026, applied on Delphi between 18 February and 12 June 2026, and then had an oral interview on their English.
Foreign school qualifications need a CIMEA statement or an ARDI statement of correspondence. You also pre-enrol on Universitaly and then apply for a type D study visa. The 2027/28 call is not out yet.

Is the Pharmacy degree at Tor Vergata taught in English?
