How the programme is taught
Many units include laboratory exercises with biomedical instruments, so you learn experimental methods as well as theory. Through agreements with universities abroad, some units are taught by visiting foreign lecturers. Every student completes a 6 ECTS internship in the department's labs or at a company or institution in Italy or abroad, and the 12 ECTS thesis is an original piece of analysis or design work that can be carried out in the university's labs or with a company or research body.

The department describes four main profiles for graduates:
- Specialist in the design, production and certification of medical devices
- Product manager for biomedical companies, supporting sales and customers
- Clinical engineer managing medical technology in hospitals and health services
- Research and development specialist in industrial, hospital or university labs
The degree also gives access to the Italian state exam for Section A of the engineers' register, in both the information and industrial sectors, and prepares you for a PhD.
Fees and scholarships
Roma Tre grades its annual contribution by ISEE, the Italian income and assets indicator, under its Regolamento Tasse; on top come a €16 stamp duty and the Lazio regional tax (€140 in 2025/26). Non-EU students can apply to DiSCo Lazio for scholarships and housing, and the region decides awards. Depending on family income, this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.

If your degree is not an Italian information or industrial engineering bachelor, the teaching board reviews your transcript before admission, so send a complete record. Applicants living abroad file a preliminary application on Roma Tre's GOMP portal and pre-enrol on Universitaly. For 2026/27 the ordinary period ran from 7 April to 15 September 2026, with a later period to 15 December at a surcharge. Once admitted, you enrol by paying the first instalment and apply for a type D study visa. The 2027/28 call is not published yet.
