The 72-credit rule
Your bachelor's must include the minimum knowledge set by the course regulations: [2]
- At least 36 CFU in basic subjects: mathematics, computer science and statistics, and physics and chemistry, as defined for the Italian civil and environmental engineering bachelor's class (L-7).
- At least 36 CFU in core civil engineering subjects: hydraulics, hydraulic and maritime engineering and hydrology, structural mechanics and structural engineering (sectors ICAR/01, ICAR/02, ICAR/08 and ICAR/09, now listed as CEAR-01/A, CEAR-01/B, CEAR-05/A, CEAR-06/A and CEAR-07/A), with at least one exam in each of the four sectors.
The teaching board checks this from your study curriculum and may hold an interview. If the outcome is negative, you can take single course units, with no credit limit, before enrolling. [2]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and the board checks subjects as well as totals. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Civil Engineering, which normally includes maths, physics and chemistry plus fluid mechanics or hydraulics, water resources or hydrology, strength of materials and structural design.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech in Environmental, Ocean, Naval, Construction or Agricultural Engineering may cover the basics but miss one of the four core areas, often structural mechanics or structural design.
- Often short: a B.Tech in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering usually lacks the structural and hydrological subjects, and a B.Sc. in Physics, Geology or Environmental Science usually lacks the civil engineering block. B.Com, BBA, BCA and BA degrees usually lack both blocks.
You need at least one exam in each of the four core sectors, so a strong credit total alone is not enough. [2]

Italian for candidates with a foreign qualification
Roma Tre's 2026/27 call says candidates with a foreign qualification must hold an Italian certificate at B2, or pass Roma Tre's own Italian test, to enrol. The test is online, has a written and an oral part, and costs €70. Passing only one part is not enough. [1]
Roma Tre's 2026/27 guide for students with foreign qualifications says the same for non-EU visa applicants, under the ministry's rules for that year. Exemptions are limited: Italian school diplomas from schools abroad, certain Argentine school certificates, the Perugia or Siena Diploma in Italian Language and Culture, and CLIQ certificates at C1 or C2. Neither document lists an exemption for programmes taught in English, so we confirm how this rule applies to your file before you apply. [1][3]
Career assessment
The course has no cap on places and no written test. You file a preliminary career assessment request on Roma Tre's GOMP portal, one for each master's you want. You list every course in your degree with its credits, subject sector and grade, or the request is excluded. Candidates from other universities also attach the syllabus of each course. [1][2]
The outcome is admitted, not admitted, or admitted on condition: either pending your graduation, or with missing subjects to make up through single course units before enrolment. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, career assessment requests ran from 7 April to 15 September 2026, with a late period to 15 December 2026 for a €60 surcharge. Outcomes were due by 6 October 2026, enrolment ran from 7 April to 16 November 2026, and conditionally admitted students had until 31 March 2027. [1]

Once the department approves your career assessment and the student office verifies the documents, your Universitaly pre-enrolment is validated. About the programme
Sustainable Coastal and Ocean Engineering (Ingegneria costiera e marina sostenibile) is a two-year laurea magistrale in class LM-23, civil engineering, offered by the Department of Civil, Computer Science and Aeronautical Technologies Engineering of Roma Tre University in Rome. How the programme is taught
Units combine lectures with laboratory and design work, and students use modern monitoring systems, including data from the European Copernicus programme. The course offers international experience through Erasmus and the International Project Week, plus seminars and internships with companies, agencies and public bodies. It ends with a 12 ECTS individual thesis on a real coastal or marine problem, which can be design-based, numerical or experimental.
