Roma Tre's International Studies master asks for a bachelor's with a final mark of at least 101/110 or a B average, set credits in politics, economics, law, history and two foreign languages, certified English at B2 and a positive career assessment. Degree, grade and credit rule

You need a three-year bachelor's, a specialist or master's degree, or a foreign qualification found equivalent, held by the deadline in the admission call. [1][2]

• Final mark: at least 101/110. For a foreign degree with no final mark, your grade average (CGPA) must be at least B under generally recognised international standards.
• Politics or anthropology: at least 6 CFU.
• Economics: at least 6 CFU.
• Law: at least 6 CFU.
• History: at least 6 CFU.
• Languages: at least 10 CFU in at least two foreign languages, with at least 5 CFU each, in languages other than your mother tongue.

The regulations define your mother tongue as the language of your primary or secondary schooling, not your citizenship or home language. Without a university exam in a second language, exams in other relevant subjects taken in a foreign language other than English can count, and as a last resort the committee can accept a certificate at B1 for French, Portuguese or Spanish, or A2 for German and other languages. Certificates must be less than four calendar years old. [2]

What this means for your transcript

Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit: one CFU stands for about 25 hours of student work, and the committee looks at your subjects, not just your total. [2] As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: a three-year BA in Political Science, International Relations or History that also includes economics and law papers, with a final result at the grade threshold.
• Check carefully: a BA in Economics, Sociology or English, or a law degree, which often covers some blocks but not all four. Check the language block too: if you were schooled in English, your English papers do not count towards the 10 language credits.
• Often short: a B.Com, BBA, B.Tech, B.E., B.Sc. or BCA, which rarely include politics and history credits or two foreign languages.

The committee can set up to three single courses to fill gaps, and needing more than three means no admission. [2]

English

Certified English at CEFR level B2, or an equivalent level, with a certificate obtained in the four years before your career assessment request. A Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate for English exempts you from a separate certificate. The regulations do not list specific test scores. [2]

Italian for candidates with a foreign qualification

Roma Tre's 2026/27 call says candidates with a foreign qualification must hold an Italian certificate at B2, or pass Roma Tre's own Italian test, to enrol. The test is online and has a written and an oral part. Passing only one part is not enough. [1]

Roma Tre's 2026/27 guide for students with foreign qualifications says the same for non-EU visa applicants. Exemptions are limited: Italian school diplomas from schools abroad, certain Argentine school certificates, the Perugia or Siena Diploma in Italian Language and Culture, and CLIQ certificates at C1 or C2. Neither document lists an exemption for programmes taught in English, so we confirm how this rule applies to your file before you apply. [1][3]

Career assessment and interview

There is no written entrance test. You file a preliminary career assessment request on Roma Tre's GOMP portal, listing every exam with its subject sector, title, date, grade and credits. Requests without subject sectors are not considered. [1]

A committee checks the curricular requirements and assesses your preparation from your academic record. If your record has gaps, it can assign set reading and hold interviews or tests on those subjects between September and November. Candidates without a certificate at the required level in English and a second foreign language always have an interview or test in those languages. [2]

The outcome is admitted, not admitted, or admitted on condition: either pending your graduation, or with missing requirements to complete through single courses before enrolment. [1]

2026/27 deadlines

For 2026/27, career assessment requests ran from 7 April to 15 September 2026, with a late period to 15 December 2026. Outcomes were due by 6 October 2026, enrolment ran from 7 April to 16 November 2026, and conditionally admitted students had until 31 March 2027. [1]

Non-EU applicants living abroad who need a visa had to complete Universitaly pre-enrolment by 15 September 2026. [3] Final-year students could apply if they expected to graduate by March 2027. [1] The 2027/28 call sets the new dates.

Documents and non-EU steps

Non-EU applicants living abroad upload the same documents to Universitaly and to GOMP: [3]

• Your school-leaving diploma, legalised and translated if it is not in English, with a CIMEA statement, legalisation or a declaration of value.
• Your bachelor's degree certificate, with an official Italian translation and consular legalisation if it is not in English.
• Your transcript of records, with a detailed description of each course and its teaching hours, translated into Italian or English, or a Diploma Supplement.
• A CIMEA verification statement for your degree and transcript, or their legalisation or apostille, or a declaration of value from the Italian embassy.
• Your Italian B2 certificate, if you have one.

The department approves the career assessment, the student office verifies the documents, and your Universitaly pre-enrolment is then validated. After you arrive with a study visa, the office checks your original documents before you enrol by paying the first instalment. [1][3]

What bachelor's degree and grades do I need for International Studies at Roma Tre?

I have a B.Com or BBA. Can I apply?

Check carefully. A B.Com or BBA often covers economics and some law, but rarely the 6 credits in politics or anthropology and 6 in history, or 10 credits in two foreign languages. The committee can set up to three single courses for gaps, and more than three means no admission. [2]

My schooling was in English. Does English count as a foreign language?

Not for the language credits. Roma Tre defines your mother tongue as the language of your primary or secondary schooling, so you need 10 credits in two other foreign languages, at least 5 each. As a last resort, a B1 certificate in French or Spanish, or A2 in German, can count. [2]
