First degree and 36 eligible quantitative credits
Hold a bachelor’s or recognised foreign equivalent. The international portal identifies mathematics, statistics and physics degrees and allows other degrees with the necessary background. The catalogue requires at least 36 CFU in one or more of MATH-*; STAT-*; ECON-05/A Econometrics; INFO-01/A Computer Science; IINF-* Information Engineering; PHYS-01/A or PHYS-02/A. Records of previous qualifications may be considered together for this credit condition. [1, 2]
These 36 are the ordinary curricular minimum across the eligible sectors, rather than 36 exclusively in mathematics for every applicant. The narrower mathematics-only requirement belongs to the automatic-preparation-verification routes described below. We provide full transcripts, credits/hours and relevant syllabi so the committee can map foreign quantitative courses. General economics or computing studies do not automatically establish that each course falls in a listed sector. [2, 4]
Individual interview or online test, with a 60% threshold
The admissions commission decides the annual method and procedure for verifying personal preparation and publishes the details at the start of the calendar year on the programme website. The catalogue permits individual interviews or an online test. The assessment covers mathematical analysis, probability, statistics and English; the programme’s admission syllabus specifies the detailed topics. [2]
An online test is passed with at least 60% of questions answered correctly. An interview is passed when the candidate demonstrates enough personal knowledge to undertake and complete the course without additional educational obligations. The current catalogue does not print a universal number of online questions, duration or question-by-question penalty, so those details must come from the relevant annual instructions. The review does not treat an older regulation’s different credit/grade thresholds as the current rule. [2]
Automatic preparation verification for specified recent profiles
For completed first degrees, the catalogue requires graduation no earlier than the calendar year preceding the application year and at least 36 CFU in MATH-* sectors. In addition, the candidate must either have graduated within the normal three-year duration, or have graduated in the first extra year with a grade at least 100/110. For a 2026 application, the recency condition means a qualifying award in 2025 or 2026, subject to commission recognition. These are preparation-verification conditions, not a universal minimum grade for all applicants. [2]
Preparation is also considered verified for an on-time graduating student who has at least 36 mathematics CFU, has passed all exams and is expected to graduate before the final enrolment deadline for the application year. The mathematics-profile exemption does not cover a candidate with 36 mixed quantitative credits, an older award or a different graduation-duration profile. The commission checks the actual qualification and record, particularly where foreign equivalence is involved. [2]
Automatic personal-preparation verification does not dispense with the qualifying degree, the applicable curricular requirement, language proficiency, complete documents or final enrolment procedures. Pending students must obtain the qualifying award by their actual enrolment deadline. [1, 2, 4]
B2 English, academic file and places for applicants abroad
The international portal requires English at least B2 and checks it during the admission procedure. The reviewed programme listing does not prescribe a universal IELTS/TOEFL/PTE certificate or numerical score. English is one of the areas in the preparation assessment. Recognition and the complete foreign-qualification file
The university requires a first-cycle or integrated qualification at the relevant EQF/EHEA/ISCED level 6, obtained after at least 15 total years of education, and assesses recognition/accreditation, qualification level, duration, academic rights and document authenticity. The file includes the first-cycle or integrated award and any intermediate qualification used to reach it; a master’s or doctorate alone does not replace the entry qualification. We prepare the qualifying degree and a full transcript recording all examinations, grades, study hours and/or credits, with all informative pages and reverse sides; a CV; and a motivation letter in English or Italian. The file needs valid identity evidence: an ID for eligible Italian/EU/equivalent applicants, or a passport for non-EU applicants. Non-EU residents in Italy need the applicable permit allowing university enrolment. Documents are accepted in Italian, English, French or Spanish; otherwise include both originals and certified translations into an accepted language. Unsigned or unstamped/unsealed documents and incomplete applications are not accepted. [4]
If you are graduating later, the file includes the official last-year enrolment certificate identifying the study path and expected qualification, plus an official transcript/score report for completed semesters. The final qualifying award is necessary for enrolment. Detailed syllabi, the grading scale and a Declaration of Value/CIMEA Comparability are useful and can become mandatory if the office or programme requests them. [4]
2026/27 international calls and application fee
Foreign qualifications normally require an Apply@UniTo application, regardless of citizenship, except the university’s explicitly exempt categories. The fee is €60 and permits selection of up to two programmes. We use the programme’s checklist as well as the central document requirements. [3, 4]
For 2026/27, the principal postgraduate application window was 25 November 2025 to 29 January 2026. The second open-access postgraduate call was 25 August to 8 September 2026 and restricted to Italians, EU/equivalent applicants and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy. Both windows have closed at the review date. The October window on the central page concerns undergraduate and five/six-year degrees, rather than these two-year master’s programmes. Departmental admission, MyUniTo and final enrolment
This programme appears in the university’s open-access postgraduate procedures. After the required academic evaluation, we follow the department’s own instructions and dates. The listed local preliminary route is type A: Pre-enrolment for courses with free admission. The ordinary 2026/27 MyUniTo enrolment window runs from 23 July 2026 at 09:30 to 14 January 2027 at 15:00 Italian time, subject to any earlier programme-specific deadline. Registration requires the academic clearance, valid identity document, suitable photograph and Italian tax-code details. International students cannot independently pay the first instalment: the International Students Office checks the request and emails payment instructions. [5, 6]
A later first-payment completion date of 31 March 2027 at 15:00 is available under the central policy only for students already admitted to a first year with open access who followed all required enrolment procedures on time but still lack documentation. This is not a new admission round or a universal extension of departmental requirements. [5]
For non-EU applicants abroad, final payment/enrolment requires the appropriate 2026/27 study visa, residence-permit application receipt, official Italian fiscal code and complete authenticated study documentation. Authenticity evidence and final academic records
Final enrolment requires verification of the degree and transcript. Accepted methods depend on the issuing system and can include legalisation, an apostille, ENIC-NARIC verification or an accepted official digital service. The university specifies direct sharing procedures for electronic transcripts. Translation, comparability and authenticity are different checks; a translated document alone does not establish that it is authentic. [4]
The university can request additional qualification evidence or originals. Providing valid authenticity evidence at application can speed up final checks, but an optional CIMEA comparison document is not mandatory for every initial application. About the programme
Stochastics and Data Science is a two-year master's degree in class LM-40-R, mathematics, worth 120 ECTS. It is taught in English and in person in Turin by the Giuseppe Peano Department of Mathematics. Access is open, but enrolment follows a check of your preparation.
The degree develops advanced skills in stochastic and inferential methods together with modern computational tools, so that graduates can analyse uncertainty and manage complex data at scale. How the programme is taught
The degree ends with a 24 ECTS thesis, a fifth of the programme, which can include work done during an internship; internships can be recognised in the study plan. A visiting professors scheme brings international experts to Turin, and courses from the UNITA European university alliance can count towards the degree. Short Italian courses are available for international students.

According to the official course page, graduates either continue to a PhD or enter the job market as experts in data science and modelling. The professional profiles it lists are statistician and mathematician.
The mix of probability, inference and stochastic processes with databases, algorithms and machine learning is aimed at work where uncertainty and large data sets meet. Electives in econometrics, game theory and decisions under uncertainty add options for quantitative roles close to economics and finance.
Fees and scholarships
The degree is not on UniTo's list of additional contributions. For 2026/27, students residing abroad pay a fixed yearly amount linked to the GDP per capita of their country of residence, from €500 to €1,500 within the standard length of the degree, plus €156 in regional tax and stamp duty. Students from the particularly poor countries on the ministry's list pay the €156 only. EDISU Piemonte scholarship winners are refunded, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.
