Turin's Philosophy master, through its English-taught Philosophy curriculum, asks for a bachelor's degree of at least three years with at least 60 credits in philosophy, 18 of them in the history of philosophy. Degree and philosophy credits
You need a bachelor's degree of at least three years, or a recognised foreign equivalent, and you cannot enrol with missing credits. Your degree must include: [1]
- At least 60 credits in philosophy: theoretical philosophy, logic and philosophy of science, moral philosophy, aesthetics, philosophy and theory of language, history of philosophy, ancient and medieval philosophy, history of political thought or philosophy of law (sectors M-FIL/01 to M-FIL/08, SPS/02 and IUS/20).
- At least 18 of these in the history of philosophy: history of philosophy, history of ancient philosophy or history of medieval philosophy (M-FIL/06, M-FIL/07 and M-FIL/08).
- Related credits: up to 18 of the 60, but no more than 6 of the 18 history credits, can come instead from ecology, computer science, philosophies and religions of India and Central Asia, linguistics, mathematical logic, general pedagogy, general psychology, history of science, history of religions, history of Christianity, or archival and library science.
A tolerance of up to 10%, or 6 credits, applies across these groups. If you lack some credits, the committee may tell you to take single courses at UniTo and pass them before you enrol. [1]

As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a BA (Honours) in Philosophy, or a BA with philosophy as the main subject in every year, where history of Western philosophy papers add up to the 18 history credits.
- Check carefully: a BA where philosophy is one of three subjects, which can fall short of 60 credits, or a degree that leans on Indian philosophy, psychology or linguistics papers, since these count only as related credits, up to 18 of the 60.
- Often short: a BA in English, History or Political Science with only one or two philosophy papers, or a B.Sc., B.Com, BBA or B.Tech, which rarely include 60 credits in philosophy.

Selection and interview
Philosophy has open access, with no written entrance test, but a committee appointed by the course council first reviews your whole academic record and the credit requirements. [1]
- Direct admission: only graduates of an Italian philosophy degree (class L-5) with at least 75/110 who meet the credit rules are admitted without an interview. [1]
- Interview: applicants from other degrees who meet the minimum requirements are called to an interview, which can be held online, on their philosophical preparation and aptitude. [1]
- Foreign degrees: the course regulations say requirements and preparation, including knowledge of Italian, are checked through the university's procedure for international students. About the programme
Philosophy (Filosofia) is a two-year master's degree in class LM-78-R, philosophical sciences, worth 120 ECTS and run by the Department of Philosophy and Education Sciences in Turin. Access is open, subject to a check of your requirements. The degree has several curricula: the one called Philosophy is taught entirely in English, while the others are taught in Italian. [1][2]
The English curriculum focuses mainly, though not only, on theoretical disciplines and aims at a preparation of international standard, especially for students who want to continue into academic research. It suits philosophy graduates with a solid grounding in the history of philosophy who want to work in logic, epistemology, the philosophy of mind and language, or ethics.

How the programme is taught
The course gives a lot of space to writing: written exams and reports during the course train you to build and present arguments on paper, while seminars work on oral argument and presentation, and lectures expect active participation. Assessment combines written and oral exams. The thesis, worth a quarter of the degree, is a written dissertation whose length depends on the topic and which must meet scientific and communication standards.

No extra contribution applies to Philosophy. For 2026/27, if you reside abroad your yearly contribution is fixed by the GDP per capita of your country of residence, from €500 to €1,500, plus €156 for regional tax and stamp duty. Residents of countries on the ministry's list of particularly poor countries pay only the €156. UniTo's Talents 4 UniTo scheme funds two-year scholarships worth €20,000 in total for international students starting an open-access master's taught in English: 38 for 2025/26, when the Philosophy curriculum was on the list with two awards, and 40 for 2026/27.
