Degree and credit requirement
You need a bachelor's degree or three-year university diploma, or a foreign qualification from an accredited university earned after at least 15 years of total education. Your previous studies must include: [1]
- At least 40 credits in basic subjects: physics (FIS/01, FIS/03), computer science (INF/01), computer engineering (ING-INF/05), and algebra, geometry, mathematical analysis, probability and numerical analysis (MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/08).
- At least 60 credits in characterising and related subjects: chemistry fundamentals (CHIM/07), computer science (INF/01), applied thermodynamics (ING-IND/10), applied mechanics and mechanical design (ING-IND/13, ING-IND/14), electrical engineering and power systems (ING-IND/31, ING-IND/33), electronics, electromagnetic fields, telecommunications, automation, computer engineering, bioengineering and measurements (ING-INF/01 to ING-INF/07), maths and operations research (MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/08, MAT/09) and statistics (SECS-S/01).
Credits in sectors shared by both groups count first towards the 40-credit group. The programme lead can admit you with up to 10 missing credits; a larger gap needs the Collegio Coordinator's approval. Missing credits must be made up before enrolment, through single courses for gaps of up to 60 credits, or through a shortened bachelor's career above that. [1]
Students in a five or six-year single-cycle degree who have not graduated need at least 15 years of total education, 3 of them at university, and at least 180 ECTS. PoliTo's 2026/27 course table recommends a background in any field of engineering, computer science, physics or mathematics. [1][3]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and professors read your transcript with your course syllabus, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electronics and Communication, Telecommunications, Computer Science, IT or Electrical Engineering, or a B.Sc. in Computer Science with solid maths.
- Check carefully: a BCA, a B.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics or Statistics, or a B.Tech in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Computing, maths and statistics credits count in the groups, but professors also judge how well your studies fit an ICT degree.
- Often short: a B.Com, BBA or BA, as these rarely include the maths, physics and computing blocks.
Any missing credits must be made up before enrolment, and a gap of more than 10 credits needs the Collegio Coordinator's approval. [1]

Certified English at CEFR level B2 or higher, with IELTS 5.5 as the listed minimum for this programme. All units are taught in English and no Italian is required for admission. [1][3]
- Exemption: a qualification earned through English at a school or university in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and other listed countries, or a qualification from the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or another country on the university's list, replaces the certificate. Selection
There is no entrance test. The Recruitment and Admissions Unit first checks your requirements and documents. Professors from the programme, appointed by the Collegio, then assess your academic performance and how well your previous studies fit the degree. The result is eligible, a conditional offer if you still need to finish your bachelor's, or not eligible. A positive evaluation is valid only for the academic year you apply for, with no deferral. [1][2]
2026/27 deadlines

A third call in November 2026 is reserved for EU applicants and non-EU applicants already living in Italy. The 2027/28 calls are not yet published and will set the new dates. [2]

You apply online on Apply@polito with one application per call, choosing up to two master's programmes in order of preference. [2]
- Required uploads: passport, CV, bachelor's degree certificate or an official document with your expected graduation date, an official transcript showing the grading and credit systems, and your English certificate or exemption statement. [2]
- Syllabus: course descriptions issued by your university. Links or documents downloaded from an accreditation body's website, such as HEC in Pakistan, are not accepted. [2]
- Format: documents on letterhead, stamped and signed. Documents not in Italian, English, French or Spanish are merged with an official English or Italian translation. [2]
- Optional: one extra document, such as a GRE report, a recommendation or motivation letter, or proof of relevant training or work. [2]
- No changes after submission: incomplete applications are rejected and cannot be resubmitted in the same year. [2]
- For enrolment: a declaration of value, CIMEA statement of comparability or Diploma Supplement, plus the type D study visa and an Italian fiscal code. An ARDI certificate of correspondence can replace the CIMEA statement. [2]
Non-EU applicants living abroad then complete Universitaly pre-enrolment, which PoliTo validates only once you are eligible and have uploaded your bachelor's degree. Some consulates also ask for the declaration of value or CIMEA documents for the visa, so we prepare them with your file. [2]

About the programme
ICT Engineering for Smart Societies is a two-year master's degree in class LM-27 (Telecommunications Engineering), taught in English at the main campus of Politecnico di Torino in Turin. - Telematic systems and services engineer: designs and develops ICT systems and applications for energy production and distribution, home automation, transport, health and telemedicine, and environmental protection, at companies that build telematic equipment or services such as cloud computing and big data analysis.
- Researcher: works in the research and development teams of ICT equipment makers, energy, information and transport network operators, large hospitals and healthcare companies, or at universities and public research centres.
- ICT consultant for non-ICT sectors: advises companies, public bodies and other organisations as a freelancer or at a consulting firm, and contributes to national and international standards and patents.
Graduates can also continue to a PhD. [1]
Fees and scholarships
Politecnico di Torino ties tuition to citizenship or residence and offers reductions based on family income; the amounts appear in its annual fee rules. For extra support, eligible students, including international students, can apply to EDISU Piemonte for a regional scholarship and university housing. Students whose family lives outside Italy submit foreign economic documentation, from which EDISU calculates an ISEE parificato, and EDISU decides awards through its yearly call.
