The Master in Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino is a two-year, 120 ECTS degree in class LM-32, with an English-taught edition on the Turin main campus. Students choose a specialist track, from embedded systems to data analytics and AI. Tuition depends on citizenship or residence, with reductions based on family income.
Entry requirements
- A bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS, after at least 15 years of education including at least three years at university.
- Italian degrees in classes L-8 or L-31 meet the curricular requirements automatically; other degrees need at least 40 credits in mathematics, physics and computer science and 60 credits in computer science, computer, electronic, telecommunications, automation or electrical engineering, probability or statistics.
- English at B2 level or higher; IELTS 5.5 is the minimum listed for the English edition. The Italian edition also asks for Italian B2.
- The syllabus of your previous courses is required; a GRE score is optional but highly valued.
- No entrance test: professors assess your academic record through Apply@PoliTO.
- A declaration of value or CIMEA statement of comparability for enrolment.
About the programme
Computer Engineering is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree in class LM-32 (Computer Systems Engineering) at Politecnico di Torino, taught on the main campus in Turin by the Department of Control and Computer Engineering. It has an English-taught edition, open to applicants with English only, alongside the Italian edition, Ingegneria Informatica; for all students the thesis and its defence are in English. Access is uncapped, subject to an evaluation of your admission requirements.
The degree prepares engineers for the design, engineering, development, operation, maintenance and security of computer applications and systems, information processing systems and complex information systems, with a focus on the technologies expected to emerge over the next decade. It suits graduates in computer engineering, computer science or another engineering field.
What you will study
The course is built in four layers: compulsory courses, the core courses of a specialist track, two 6-credit electives and free-choice credits. The compulsory courses cover computer architecture, system programming, database technologies, software engineering, automatic control, network technologies and services, and IT security. The 2025/26 regulations list six specialist tracks:
- Automation and Intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems
- Embedded Systems, whose courses are taught in English
- Graphics and Multimedia
- Software Applications
- Computing and Network Infrastructures
- Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence
The regulations do not say which of the other tracks run in the English edition, so check the track list for the year you enrol.
How the programme is taught
The final examination is worth 30 credits, about one semester of full-time work, and usually centres on an innovative analysis, project or application; students who want a curricular internship can ask to split these credits between a shorter thesis and an internship. Politecnico has agreements with foreign universities for double or joint degrees. Through the Twin Track scheme, Computer Engineering students can also obtain a second master's degree, in Cybersecurity Engineering, in just one year. Students whose native language is not Italian must prove Italian at A2 level before graduating.

The regulations describe six professional profiles, matching the tracks:
- Designer of distributed, networked, data centre and cloud systems, for IT departments, consultancies, cloud companies and telecom operators
- Designer in computer graphics and multimedia, including interactive, virtual and augmented reality applications
- Software application designer, defining the architecture of complex software and managing its development
- Designer of intelligent control and industrial automation systems, in robotics, aerospace, automotive, energy and manufacturing
- Embedded systems designer, for consumer electronics, automotive, biomedical and avionics companies
- Designer of IT systems for artificial intelligence and data analytics, in IT departments, software companies and analytics teams
Fees and scholarships
How much you pay at Politecnico di Torino depends on your citizenship or residence, and reductions are available on the basis of family income; the yearly fee rules set the figures. Regional support comes from EDISU Piemonte, which awards scholarships and university housing and accepts applications from international students. Students with a family abroad send foreign income and asset documents, which EDISU turns into an ISEE parificato to assess eligibility.

Computer Engineering asks for the syllabus of your previous courses and says a GRE score is optional but highly valued.
