School-leaving requirement

You need an Italian upper secondary school diploma or a foreign qualification recognised as suitable under Italian rules. For 2026/27, students in their final school year who would finish in 2025/26 could join the first admission round. [1]

UniTo's document rules ask for a qualification earned after at least 12 years of schooling in total, with at least the last two years in the foreign system, that gives access to a similar degree in your country. A qualification after 10 or 11 years gives access only under extra conditions, such as passing university exams first, holding a post-secondary qualification or completing a Foundation Programme. [3]

What this means for your school results

The call sets no minimum school grade and no school stream: places are ranked by SAT score, and maths runs through the whole degree. As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: Class 12 from CBSE, ISC or a state board, or Higher Secondary results from Pakistan, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, after 12 years of schooling, with mathematics in the last two years. A levels after 12 years of schooling also fit the 12-year rule.
• Check carefully: a commerce or humanities stream without mathematics. You can still apply, but the first round needs at least 400 in SAT Math, and a lower score in the second round adds a first-year maths requirement (OFA).
• Often short: a qualification with fewer than 12 years of schooling in total, such as a Class 10 certificate followed by a short diploma.

English

The programme asks for an advanced level of English, and the SAT and all teaching are in English. [5] The 2026/27 admission call does not list a separate English certificate or IELTS or TOEFL scores. [1]

SAT and ranking

Admission is by the SAT, run by the College Board. [1]

• For 2026/27, valid SAT dates ran from 2 January 2025 to 6 June 2026 for the first round, or to 12 September 2026 for the second round.
• You can sit the SAT more than once, but UniTo uses the last score taken before each round closes, even if it is lower.
• Your score goes to UniTo through College Board code 9136.
• In the first round you need at least 400 in the SAT Math section to enter the ranking for this degree.
• Ties go to the higher SAT Math score, then to the younger candidate.
• If you enrol through the second round with SAT Math below 400, you take compulsory extra maths activities (OFA) and must pass a check before sitting exams.

Non-EU applicants living abroad who need a visa are ranked separately from other applicants. [1]

For 2026/27 the degree had 195 places for Italian, EU and equivalent applicants and non-EU applicants living in Italy, 50 for non-EU applicants living abroad who need a visa, and 5 for the Marco Polo project. [1]

Documents and non-EU steps

Applicants with a foreign diploma complete separate steps: the Apply@UniTo application, Universitaly pre-enrolment for non-EU residents abroad who need a visa, and the UniTo pre-enrolment for the SAT ranking. Missing the UniTo pre-enrolment excludes you from the ranking. [1]

• Your school diploma needs proof of authenticity: legalisation, an apostille, an ENIC-NARIC statement of verification or an official digital verification service. [3]
• A transcript is needed if your years of schooling are unclear, plus any national entrance exam your country requires for university entry. [3]
• A declaration of value or CIMEA statement of comparability is not mandatory but useful, unless the office requests it. [3]
• Documents in languages other than Italian, English, French or Spanish need a certified translation. [3]
• If you are still at school, you upload an enrolment certificate for your final year and a score report for the years completed, and you must hold the diploma to enrol. [3]
