Degree and credit rule
You need a three-year bachelor's degree, or another qualification, including one obtained abroad, that the course council recognises as suitable. [1]
The curricular requirements are met automatically by a three-year bachelor's in management engineering, mechanical engineering or energy engineering, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the course council. Other graduates need, before enrolment: [1]
- At least 33 CFU in basic subjects: mathematics (MAT/02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 08 and 09), statistics (SECS-S/02), chemistry (CHIM/07), computing (ING-INF/05) and physics (FIS/01).
- At least 15 CFU in at least two core areas: sectors ING-IND/08, 09, 10, 16, 17 and 35 and ING-INF/04, which cover fluid machines and energy systems, technical physics, manufacturing, industrial plants, management engineering and automatic control.
The course council can count credits in other sectors that it considers equivalent. Missing credits can be made up with single courses before enrolment, up to 18 CFU, or through a study plan that includes them. [1]
For non-EU candidates, a commission appointed by the course council assesses your curricular requirements from your university transcript. The minimum is a bachelor's degree with at least a First Class result, where your grading system uses one. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and the commission looks at your subjects, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Industrial and Production, or Energy Engineering, the fields closest to the degrees that meet the rule automatically.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Aeronautical or Automobile Engineering. These usually cover the 33 basic credits, but the 15 credits in two core areas, such as production, energy, plants or control, depend on your electives.
- Often short: a B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science, or a BCA, which can cover the basic block but rarely the core engineering areas, and a B.Com, BBA or BA, which usually lack both blocks.
Your degree class matters too: the regulations ask non-EU applicants for at least a First Class result where one applies. [1]

English at CEFR level B2, including subject vocabulary, shown by a certificate from an authorised body or in an interview held at the university. The regulations do not list specific tests or scores. [1]
Selection
The programme has open access and no written entrance test. Enrolment depends on a check of your curricular requirements and of your personal preparation. [1]
Personal preparation is confirmed automatically if you completed your first degree in the standard time, if your final mark is at least 105/110, or if it is at least 92/110 and you graduated within twice the standard time. Otherwise you take an admission test as an oral interview. [1]
