Milan's Economics and Political Science master asks for a bachelor's in economics, political science or a related subject, with at least 24 or 30 credits in economics, statistics, maths or political science depending on your degree, plus English at B2. Degree and credit requirements
You need a bachelor's degree or equivalent, a strong interest in or previous studies of economics, political science or related subjects, and training in mathematics and quantitative methods. Graduates of foreign universities are eligible with a bachelor's in economics, political science or another broadly related subject, if it can be regarded as equivalent to one of the Italian degree classes the programme lists. - Listed Italian classes (L-16, L-18, L-20, L-33, L-36, L-37 and L-41): at least 24 CFU in economics and business (SECS-P/01 to 13), statistics (SECS-S/01 to 06), mathematics (MAT/01 to 09) or political science (SPS/04).
- Other degrees: at least 30 CFU in political and social sciences (SPS/01 to 14), economics and business (SECS-P/01 to 13), statistics (SECS-S/01 to 06) or mathematics (MAT/01 to 09). At least 6 must be in mathematics (MAT/01 to 09 or SECS-S/06) and at least 6 in economics (SECS-P/01 to 06) or political science (SPS/04).
If you hold one of the two 6-credit blocks but not the other, you can make up the gap with a pre-course before classes start or by passing a single course exam at any university, including Milan. All conditions must be met before enrolment, which must be completed by 31 December of the year of registration. [2]
What this means for your transcript
Credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit as Italian CFU, and the board looks at the subjects behind them. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a BA or B.Sc. in Economics, a B.Sc. in Statistics, or a BA in Political Science that includes economics and some maths or statistics.
- Check carefully: a B.Com or BBA, where economics and statistics courses count but accounting-heavy plans may lack the 6 maths or statistics credits, and a BA in sociology, international relations or development studies, which needs economics and quantitative courses.
- Often short: a B.Tech, B.E., BCA or B.Sc. in a science subject. The maths is usually there, but foreign degrees must be related to economics or political science, with at least 6 credits in economics or political science.
Meeting the credit rule only makes you eligible. Admission is based on academic excellence, and the board weighs your record and the interview. [2]

English at CEFR level B2 or higher is required for admission. You can show it with a B2 or higher certificate issued no more than three years before you apply, uploaded with the application, or by taking the University Language Centre (SLAM) entry test. If you do not take or pass the test, you must deliver an accepted certificate by the programme's deadline, or you are not admitted. [2] For 2026/27 that deadline was 31 August 2026. [3]
On the university's list, B2 corresponds to IELTS 5.5 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 72 to 94, PTE Academic 59 to 75 or Cambridge B2 First. Certificates must cover reading, writing, listening and speaking. [7]
Selection and interview
The programme rules set no entrance test. About 40 students are expected to enrol each year, and admission is based on academic excellence: the board considers your academic record, and applicants who meet the requirements are invited to an online interview. GRE or GMAT results are taken into account if you provide them. [2]
The 2026/27 admission notice let the board ask for an interview, a written test or both, in person or remotely. [1] The programme website describes an online interview on motivation, knowledge and skills in the core EPS areas, with results by email about a week later. Admitted students may be asked to attend crash courses in statistics, mathematics, economics or political science. [3]
2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, non-EU citizens applying for a visa had to apply between 22 January and 30 April 2026. EU candidates and equivalents could apply until 20 July 2026. [1]
The curricular requirements had to be met by the application deadline. Applicants still finishing their bachelor's could apply if they graduated by 31 December 2026. Enrolment ran from 5 May 2026 to 15 January 2027. [1] The 2027/28 admission notice sets the next dates.
Documents and non-EU steps
With a foreign degree you upload your bachelor's degree certificate (in Italian, English, French, German or Spanish), a Diploma Supplement or transcript, and a passport or other valid ID. [1] The programme also asks for a short CV, plus any English certificate and GRE or GMAT results. [3]
Admitted non-EU visa applicants complete Universitaly pre-enrolment, which closed on 31 July 2026 for 2026/27. By 30 November 2026 they also had to provide a statement of comparability from an ENIC-NARIC centre such as CIMEA, or a declaration of value, or enrolment was cancelled. [1]

About the programme
Economics and Political Science (EPS) is a two-year interclass master's degree in classes LM-56-R (economics) and LM-62-R (political science), run by the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods with the Department of Social and Political Sciences. It is worth 120 ECTS, taught fully in English in Milan, and expects about 40 students a year. [2][4]
The aim is advanced and complete training in both disciplines, so that graduates bring an open and critical view of economic, political and social issues rather than a single-discipline lens. It suits graduates in economics, political science or statistics who are comfortable with quantitative methods.

How the programme is taught
Students must attend at least 50% of teaching activities. Internships, for example at the Observatoire Social Européen or Social Platform in Brussels, can earn credits, and the 2026/27 plan offers a 3 ECTS laboratory in coding and data management for economics and political science. A bilateral agreement with the Université catholique de Louvain and the Université de Namur lets a limited number of students earn a double degree, and exchange partners include Sciences Po, Konstanz, Heidelberg and Oslo. The degree ends with a 15 ECTS final exam: the public discussion of a master's dissertation. [2]
