School-leaving requirement
You need an upper secondary school qualification, or a qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable. [1] The programme asks for a high school diploma obtained after at least 12 years of pre-university education. For a diploma from a non-Italian school, this is shown with a declaration of value from an Italian embassy or consulate or through CIMEA, and at enrolment a CIMEA statement of comparability can replace the declaration of value. The regulations set no minimum school grade. Instead, the entrance test checks the preparation you need: [1]
- Logic: reading a text correctly, using the data of a problem to reach a solution and deducing how a simple system behaves.
- Maths: numbers, powers and roots, logarithms and exponentials, polynomials, first and second degree equations and inequalities, plane and solid geometry, Cartesian coordinates, functions and trigonometry.
- Science: elementary physics and the basic structure of matter.

The rule counts years of schooling, and the entrance test is built on school maths, physics and logic. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a Class 12 or Higher Secondary certificate in a science stream with maths and physics, completed after 12 years of schooling in total.
- Check carefully: Commerce, Arts or a science stream without maths, which can meet the years rule but leave you less ready for the maths section, and A levels or other systems where we need to count your total years of schooling.
- Often short: fewer than 12 years of pre-university education in total.

Entrance test
A compulsory selective test checks your preparation. The 2024/25 regulations describe a multiple-choice test in English on mathematics, science, logic and verbal comprehension, similar to the English TOLC-I, taken remotely so that visa applicants can sit it from abroad. You can repeat it to improve your score. [1]
- Test used: up to the 2025/26 intake this was CISIA's English TOLC-I, taken online from home. From 2026 the programme replaced it with a unified CEnT-S test. [2]
- Minimum score: 20% of the maximum score, which the programme sets at 11 out of 55 for the CEnT-S. [1][2]
- Maths obligation (OFA): if you pass but score no more than 50% of the marks in the maths section, which the programme puts at 10 marks for the CEnT-S, you must earn at least 9 CFU in mathematical analysis (MATH-03/A, formerly MAT/05) before sitting any other exam, and clear this within the first year. The 2024/25 regulations set test sessions from February to October, booked online. [1] For the 2026 intake, the programme's admission page expected non-EU pre-admission to open in January 2026 and close on 31 May 2026, although it also describes the window as February to June. Final enrolment runs from July to the end of October and can be extended to December. [2]

About the programme
Civil and Environmental Engineering is a three-year bachelor's degree (laurea, class L-7) worth 180 ECTS and taught in English at the University of Naples Federico II.
It is run jointly by the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (DICEA) and the Department of Structures for Engineering and Architecture (DiSt), within the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School, at Via Claudio 21 in Naples.
The degree trains engineers who can understand, solve and manage the basic problems of designing, building, maintaining and keeping safe civil infrastructure and the built environment.
It suits school leavers with a solid maths and physics base who want a broad engineering start before choosing a structural, hydraulic, transport or environmental specialism at master's level.
What you will study
The first part of the course lays the scientific foundations, and the later years move into the core civil and environmental disciplines.
Up to 18 ECTS can be chosen freely, with suggested options such as engineering geology, surveying and mapping, coastal engineering, resilience of transportation systems and spatial analysis and urban planning.

How the programme is taught
An internship is optional: it can count towards the credits for other training activities and is arranged through agreements between the university and companies or organisations.
The final exam is an essay on a specialist topic, prepared with a supervisor and presented to a committee in 10 to 15 minutes.
Through Erasmus you can spend a study period at a partner university abroad, and first-year students get tutoring from master's and doctoral students in groups of about 25 to 30.
Career paths
The university describes two graduate profiles. You can work as a design assistant on preliminary, final and executive designs, feasibility and environmental impact checks, risk analysis and building restoration.
Or you can manage environmental and land transformation services: monitoring urban and environmental systems, maintaining infrastructure, assessing risk and handling workplace safety and emergency response.
Many graduates continue their studies. The bachelor gives direct access to four Federico II master's degrees: Civil Engineering for Hydraulic and Transportation, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Mobility, and Environmental and Land Engineering.
Fees and scholarships
Federico II sets its fees by family income (ISEE), under the university's fee rules, published each year in its student guides. The programme's admission page says non-EU international students pay only the regional tax and stamp duty each year, so the degree can be tuition-free for eligible students. [2]

For 2026/27 its call set an ISEE ceiling of €25,500 (ISPE €54,000), paid off-site students up to €7,171.11 and closed on 10 September 2026. Families abroad apply with the ISEE universitario parificato.
