Transportation Engineering and Mobility (MSc TEAM) is a two-year master's degree (class LM-23) taught in English at the University of Naples Federico II, with curricula in Smart Mobility, Smart Planning and Resilient Networks. Non-EU students pay only the regional tax and stamp duty, so it can be tuition-free for eligible students.
Entry requirements
- An engineering bachelor's degree in Italian class L-7, L-8 or L-9, or another EQF level 6 qualification.
- Without an engineering degree: at least 36 ECTS in basic sciences and 39 ECTS in civil, industrial or information engineering.
- English at B2 or higher with a recognised certificate such as Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL, Trinity or Duolingo; MOI letters are no longer accepted.
- No entrance test: the programme director and an admission committee assess your documents for pre-admission.
- Passport, degree certificate, transcript and course descriptions, CV and statement of purpose; recommendation letters, CIMEA or declaration of value and proof of funds are optional but help.
About the programme
Transportation Engineering and Mobility, known as MSc TEAM, is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-23, civil engineering) taught in English and run by the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (DICEA) of the University of Naples Federico II. Its headquarters are at Via Claudio 21 in Naples.
The course responds to the fast changes in the transport sector, with a strong focus on sustainability. It trains engineers in modelling and simulating transport systems, through lectures, labs and hands-on project work with industry. It suits civil, information and industrial engineering graduates who want to work on mobility, traffic and infrastructure.
What you will study
About 65% of the teaching is shared by all students. From the second year you follow one of three curricula: Smart Mobility, Smart Planning or Resilient Networks. With 10 extra ECTS you can add the Smart Infrastructures Developer profile to your Diploma Supplement, and a Minor in Applied Machine Learning is also available. Units include:
- Modelling Transportation and Mobility and Road Safety (9 ECTS each)
- Machine Learning and Big Data (9 ECTS)
- Positioning and Location-based Services, Systems and Control Fundamentals, and Electric Systems in Transportation
- Smart Mobility: Traffic Control, Real-time Systems, Unmanned Aircraft Systems for Transportation and Mobility, Railway and Transit Services
- Smart Planning: Transport Planning and Appraisal, Freight and Logistics, Energy Management for Transportation, Resilience of Transportation Systems
- Resilient Networks: Structural Health Monitoring, Sustainable Road Materials, Resilience of Geotechnical Systems
- A lab or internship (7 ECTS) and the master's thesis (12 ECTS)
How the programme is taught
Teaching mixes theory with experiential and laboratory work, including a Smart Infrastructures lab in the first year. In the internship and thesis you tackle applied problems and may test solutions with industrial partners. If your visa is delayed, the first semester of year one can be followed online, but exams are taken in person only after final enrolment in Naples.

Fees and scholarships
The TEAM admission page states that non-EU students pay no university fee, only the compulsory regional tax and a €16 legal stamp; the 2026/27 fee simulator sets that regional tax at €130, €151 or €173 depending on ISEE. ADISURC, the Campania DSU body, runs yearly scholarship calls once you have completed final enrolment. This degree can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
Non-EU applicants first apply for pre-admission on the course's intake page, uploading their degree, transcript, course descriptions, B2 certificate, CV and statement of purpose. For the 2026 intake the selection ran from mid-February to 30 May, and successful candidates received an offer letter after registering on Universitaly and sharing their demand ID.
The letter is uploaded to Universitaly, open for 2026 from early April to 15 June, to request a type D visa. Final enrolment is in person in Naples with a declaration of value or CIMEA statements. The 2027 dates are not published yet.
