Electronics Engineering is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (LM-29) taught in English at the Politecnico di Bari, covering analogue and digital electronics, photonics, sensors and IoT hardware. Fees depend on family income, and ADISU Puglia scholarship winners are exempt, so it can be tuition-free for eligible students.
Entry requirements
- A three-year bachelor's degree, or a foreign degree recognised as suitable, with at least 48 credits (ECTS) across maths, physics, chemistry, computing, electronics, electromagnetic fields and electrical measurements.
- Of these, at least 36 credits in basic subjects and at least 12 in electronics, electromagnetic fields or electronic measurements; missing credits must be earned before enrolment through single courses.
- English at B2 level, shown by a recognised certificate or by passing the Poliba Language Centre exam; native English speakers are exempt.
- No entrance test: a bachelor's grade of 85/110 or above (or the foreign equivalent assessed by Poliba) counts as adequate preparation, otherwise the coordinator holds an interview.
- Official transcripts with legalised Italian or English translations for foreign qualifications.
About the programme
Electronics Engineering is a two-year laurea magistrale in class LM-29 run by the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (DEI) of the Politecnico di Bari. The degree carries 120 ECTS and is taught in English on the Bari campus, with a single study path for the 2026 cohort. Seminars are mostly given by international experts, also in English.
The course trains designers of complex electronic and optoelectronic devices, equipment and systems that acquire, process and transmit information. It suits graduates in electronic, telecommunications or computer engineering who want to design hardware, from nanoscale devices and integrated circuits to embedded systems, sensors and power electronics.
What you will study
The first year builds the core of the profession, while the second year adds applied subjects and lets you shape your plan with electives and related courses chosen from a suggested list. Compulsory units in the 2026/27 study plan include:
- Digital Electronic Systems and Lab (12 ECTS) and Analog Electronic Systems (6 ECTS)
- Micro and Nanoelectronics Devices
- Radiating Systems and Electromagnetic Compatibility (12 ECTS)
- Design of High-Frequency Electronic Systems and Design of Electronic Integrated Circuits
- Programmable Instrumentation and Sensors (12 ECTS) and Electronic Systems for IoT
- Photonic Devices and Sensors, and Optoelectronic Systems
- Optional units such as Hardware and PCB Design, Power Electronic Converters, Advanced Electronic Measurements Laboratory and Statistical and Mathematical Methods for Artificial Intelligence
How the programme is taught
Lectures are paired with laboratory activity in which you design and test the circuits and systems you study. The plan includes a 3 ECTS internship with a company or laboratory, and a master's dissertation of at least 15 ECTS, normally written in English and often linked to the supervisor's research, sometimes with research centres, universities or companies abroad. Study periods abroad through Erasmus are recognised.
Career paths
Graduates work in innovation, advanced design, planning and management of electronic and optoelectronic systems, in industry, service companies, public administration or research. Typical work includes circuits for wired and wireless telecommunications, digital systems built on processors and FPGAs, and biomedical and environmental monitoring systems. The official profile lists employers such as:
- Companies that design, build and run systems for acquiring and transporting analogue and digital information
- Public and private operators of electronic and telecommunication services
- Manufacturers that use electronic systems in production
- Air, land and maritime traffic control bodies
- Standardisation organisations
Graduates can also apply for PhD programmes at Poliba or elsewhere.
Fees and scholarships
Under Poliba's 2026/27 fee regulation, the annual contribution follows family income: a first-year student with an ISEE up to €26,000 pays no contribution, and the maximum for on-time students is €2,257.60. Families with income abroad document it through translated, legalised consular statements. Winners of the ADISU Puglia scholarship are fully exempt, so this master's can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
Your file is checked against the curricular requirements, and an interview on electronics, electromagnetic fields and measurements applies if your bachelor's grade is below the threshold. You apply through Poliba's Esse3 portal with official records and legalised Italian or English translations. For 2026/27, master's windows ran from 28 July 2026 to 10 May 2027, with 5 places reserved for non-EU applicants living abroad.
Students who need a visa also complete Universitaly pre-enrolment, then apply for a type D study visa.
How ApplyAZ helps
If this programme fits your goals, ApplyAZ can include it in a shortlist of 20 to 30 English-taught programmes at Italian public universities. We write your CV and a tailored statement of purpose, submit your applications and Universitaly pre-enrolment, file your DSU scholarship application and prepare your visa file, with a named person on each stage. The university decides admission, the region decides the scholarship and the consulate decides the visa. See how ApplyAZ works or check your eligibility.
