Degree and the 54-credit rule
You need a three-year bachelor's degree, or a foreign qualification recognised as suitable. The regulation names the Italian civil and environmental engineering degree class (L-7, or class VIII under the older system) and asks for at least 54 CFU in these subject areas: [1]
- Water and soil: applied geology, hydraulics, hydraulic and maritime construction and hydrology, sanitary and environmental engineering, geotechnics.
- Structures and building: structural mechanics, structural engineering, architectural engineering, building production, drawing, materials science and technology.
- Transport, land and planning: roads, railways and airports, transport, surveying and cartography, urban planning.
- Other listed areas: environmental applied physics, chemical plants, economic and management engineering, information processing systems and administrative law.
Missing credits must be made up before enrolment by passing single course units. Holders of foreign degrees must request a pre-evaluation and can enrol only if their qualification is judged to meet these requirements. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit: one CFU stands for 25 hours of student work, and the committee looks at your subjects, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering, where hydraulics, geotechnics, structures, surveying and transport normally make up a large share of the course.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or a B.Sc. in Geology or Environmental Science, may cover chemical plants, applied physics, materials or applied geology but can fall short of 54 CFU across the listed areas.
- Often short: a B.Tech in Computer Science or Electronics, a BCA, B.Com, BBA or BA, since most of the listed areas are civil and environmental engineering subjects.

Admission also depends on a check of your personal preparation. For this course it is an interview on your bachelor's thesis, held by a committee appointed by the Dean. The check counts as passed for applicants whose bachelor's final mark is above 85 out of 110. The regulation does not set a written entrance test. [1]

2026/27 pre-evaluation rounds
For 2026/27, Univpm ran these pre-evaluation rounds for international students: [2]
- 16 December 2025 to 30 January 2026, for all international students.
- 1 March to 30 April 2026, for all international students.
- 8 to 30 June 2026, for all international students.
- 1 to 31 July 2026, only for students from listed countries, including India.
The later round from 15 July 2026 was open to non-EU students needing a visa only for Medicine and Surgery. Enrolment opened in mid July 2026. The next call sets the 2027/28 dates. [2]

About the programme
Environmental Engineering is a two-year laurea magistrale in class LM-35 (land and environmental engineering), worth 120 ECTS and delivered entirely in English by the Faculty of Engineering of Marche Polytechnic University in Ancona.
