- L-SNT3 Technical health professions, only for graduates in biomedical laboratory techniques
- L-38 Animal science and animal production
- LM-41 Medicine and LM-42 Veterinary Medicine
The matching classes of the older Italian system (1, 12, SNT3, 46/S, 47/S and 40) also qualify. For candidates from other universities or disciplines, an admissions committee checks eligibility and requires a strong background in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology and physiopathology. The regulations set no credit count: the committee looks at the subjects you studied. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Sc. or B.Tech in Biotechnology, a B.Sc. in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or Zoology, a B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology, or an MBBS or BVSc, as these sit closest to the named classes.
- Check carefully: a B.Sc. in Forensic Science, a B.Pharm, or a B.Sc. in Chemistry, Nursing or Agriculture. These are outside the named classes, so the committee checks your record for chemistry, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology and physiopathology.
- Often short: a B.Tech in Computer Science or another engineering field, a BCA, B.Com, BBA or BA, which usually lack the life-science base.
With moderate gaps, the committee can set an individual catch-up programme of single courses at UniPG, and you are formally admitted only after you complete it. [1]
Personal preparation check
The regulations treat a final grade above 90/110 as enough to show personal preparation. With a lower grade, you have an interview with a committee of first-year teachers. The regulations do not give a conversion for foreign grading scales. [1]

There is no entrance test, and access is open. [6] Visa applicants are first pre-evaluated on the PICA portal, and master's files can be sent to a committee that checks the academic requirements. For 2026/27, UniPG's general PICA pre-evaluation call for non-EU applicants living abroad (2026-VISA-03), which covers this degree, ran from 29 May to 7 June 2026. [2] The 2027/28 call will set the new dates.

About the programme
This two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-9 R, medical, veterinary and pharmaceutical biotechnology) trains biotechnologists for diagnostics, research and forensic work. Its Italian name is Scienze biotecnologiche mediche, veterinarie e forensi (code M1033), and UniPG lists it among the degrees taught entirely in English for 2026/27. It is run by the Department of Medicine and Surgery with the Departments of Veterinary Medicine and Law, and classes are held in Perugia, in lecture halls at Sant'Andrea delle Fratte and San Costanzo. How the programme is taught
Each year includes a 6-credit training period, and the second year closes with a 12-credit final test. [6] Training periods and an internship are compulsory, and the internship and thesis research can take place in public or private institutes in Italy or abroad. [1]
The forensic curriculum pairs laboratory subjects with law units such as Biolaw, Criminal Procedural Law and Forensic Techniques, Data Law in Science and Forensics and Health Law. The veterinary curriculum covers laboratory animals and animal experimentation. [6]

Non-EU students with income and assets abroad can choose between an ISEEU parificato and a flat tax set by their country's development bracket.
