Geosciences for Risk and Environment Management has updated 2026/27 teaching regulations, with an entirely English Geosciences for Environmental Sustainability curriculum and an Italian curriculum. The current regulation is used for academic admission rather than older credit/exemption wording in descriptive pages. Sources were reviewed on 6 October 2026. [1-5]

Qualifying degree and geological preparation

A bachelor’s, master’s or old-system five-year degree can be considered. Foreign awards require suitability evaluation by the course committee. The normal recognised disciplinary route is L-34 Geological Sciences, former class 16 or an assessed foreign equivalent. Applicants need foundation knowledge in mathematics, physics and chemistry, together with suitable coverage of geological sciences. [1]

Other bachelor’s/master’s curricula are evaluated individually. The committee reviews the transcript and may interview, then can prescribe additional geology-sector credits that must be earned before it grants the nulla osta for enrolment. The current regulation does not impose the older descriptive page’s universal 60-credit/36-geology formula for all alternative degrees; we obtain the course’s written assessment of your actual curriculum. Assessment, missing credits and clearance timing

Applicants request the nulla osta through the specified evaluation procedure at least 30 days before the university’s enrolment deadline. The commission checks curricular and personal suitability; the course committee then grants academic clearance, which is supplied with the qualifying-degree and language records for registration. Missing prescribed credits must be completed before clearance. [1]

The department publishes the annual interview calendar with at least two sessions around the start of teaching and final enrolment period. The regulation says the final date is determined by the university and is generally near the end of February; that description is not an exact 2026/27 deadline or a visa-call extension. No current programme-specific 2027/28 date is established here. [1]

An older catalogue section mentions an interview/clearance exemption for L-34 graduates above 99/110. The current 2026/27 Article 4 does not repeat that exemption. This section therefore does not rely on it; we use the current committee/clearance procedure and seek an explicit exemption decision where relevant. [1, 2]

Curriculum language and non-visa language alternatives

The general programme threshold is English B1. For the wholly English Geosciences for Environmental Sustainability curriculum, English B2 is required. International applicants choosing the Italian curriculum need Italian B2. The degree’s mixed overall language is separate from the English curriculum’s actual B2 entry condition. [1]

For applicants who do not require an entry visa, the regulation permits B2 evaluation through a committee interview or suitable alternative certification. It also allows the stated documentary exemptions based on at least one year of relevant-language high-school attendance, a relevant-language secondary diploma or a relevant-language university bachelor’s degree. Visa-route English B2 and documented exemptions

For an English-taught master’s curriculum, non-EU applicants abroad requiring a visa must provide the accepted B2 evidence under the current central rules. The list includes IELTS 5.5 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 72 to 94, LanguageCert International ESOL B2 Communicator with written and spoken exams, Gatehouse GA Level 1 Classic B2, PTE General Level 3, Trinity ISE II, Oxford Test of English B2 and the listed Cambridge IGCSE certification. These are the published B2 descriptors, rather than a requirement to score no higher than the top of a listed band. Oxford ELLT and Duolingo are not accepted. [4, 5]

The language page explicitly rejects a Medium of Instruction letter as a substitute certificate. The later study-document guidance separately recognises documented native-English status, an English-taught diploma/degree from an accredited institution in the EU, EEA or Schengen area, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US or another country on the university's list, and an International Baccalaureate/GCE/GCSE. For applicants relying on those limited exemptions, we confirm the exemption with the office and supply the required qualification evidence; an MOI from any institution is not a universal waiver. For an Italian-taught route, visa applicants need Italian B2 certification under the accepted CLIQ scheme or the required university language test. A course’s lower general English threshold does not replace the language requirement of the chosen teaching route and international category. [4, 5]

Complete foreign-degree and recognition file

The qualifying award must grant access to postgraduate study, correspond to a Bologna first-cycle/EQF level-6 qualification and be issued by an eligible higher-education institution. The file includes the degree in its original language, official transcript, CV, examination programmes/syllabi and requested recognition records. Translation into Italian is normally required, with a stated exemption for original records issued in English, French or Spanish. A Diploma Supplement can replace examination/credit records only when complete and carrying the prescribed legalisation/apostille. [4]

The central checklist distinguishes authenticity from comparability: it requests CIMEA Verification, or legalisation/apostille if verification cannot be issued for the country; and CIMEA Comparability or an accepted alternative such as the competent Declaration of Value, ENIC/NARIC certification or ARDI correspondence for eligible Lisbon Convention countries. Missing certification may lead to conditional evaluation, with the remaining records supplied later. Final suitability is the university’s decision. [4]

Applicants awaiting the final qualifying award can initially submit an official final-year enrolment certificate and transcript, then integrate the completed qualification. This does not waive the course’s academic prerequisites or establish a new application deadline. Visa-route files include a valid passport; the non-visa foreign-qualification route needs identity and the appropriate EU/Italian citizenship or valid residence-permit evidence. [3, 4]

PICA, Universitaly and the applicant category

Visa-requiring non-EU candidates abroad must first obtain academic/document evaluation through the applicable PICA call. A positive PICA result precedes Universitaly; applications submitted only on Universitaly without PICA evaluation are not considered for validation. The current central general call was 29 May to 7 June 2026, with later calls restricted to specifically named programmes. We do not assume a special call for another degree covers this course. PICA outcomes distinguish conditional admission, referral to the academic committee, admission and rejection. We submit documents through the prescribed portal, rather than sending a substitute application by email. Each candidate is limited to one course/application under the stated visa procedure. After positive evaluation and Universitaly validation, apply to the consular mission for the visa. The current instructions prohibit completing SOL enrolment and first-instalment payment from abroad: students complete those stages after arriving in Italy. [3]

Italian/EU citizens and eligible non-EU residents holding foreign qualifications use the separate PICA procedure for legally residing international students, opened from 1 July 2026, then enrol after positive evaluation. Domestic-qualification applicants follow the course’s ordinary clearance procedure. Departmental clearance, language evidence and the final qualifying award remain necessary. [1, 3, 4]

Which degree is the normal disciplinary route?
