The credit rule
Your knowledge must match that of an Italian information engineering bachelor's (class L-8), and you must meet these requirements before enrolment: [1]
- A bachelor's or master's degree from an Italian university, or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 36 credits in basic subjects: the subject sectors set for basic activities in Italian information engineering degrees (class L-8).
- At least 45 credits in core subjects: the subject sectors that characterise class L-8 degrees in automation, biomedical, electronic, computer and telecommunications engineering.
For degrees from abroad, the board compares the exams you passed with these subjects, using your transcript of records. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian credits and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and Genoa compares your subjects, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electronics and Communication, Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, Telecommunications or Computer Science, which sit close to Italian information engineering.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech in Electrical or Electrical and Electronics Engineering, a BCA, or a B.Sc. in Electronics or Computer Science. The 45 core credits must come from automation, biomedical, electronic, computer or telecommunications engineering, so electrical power units or non-engineering courses may not count.
- Often short: a B.Tech in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, or a B.Com, BBA or BA, where few subjects fall in these areas.

Applicants who meet the credit rule must also pass a check of their personal preparation. A committee runs it as a public interview, a written test or a remote interview, and also looks at your bachelor's record. It covers the fundamentals and applied aspects of: [1]

For 2026/27, the visa applicant selection set a minimum CGPA of 80% for this programme. [2] Visa applicants applied on UniGeApply from 26 November 2025 to 20 March 2026, and outcomes were due by 22 May 2026. Accepted students then applied on Universitaly from 4 May to 19 June 2026. Electronic Engineering is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-29) worth 120 ECTS.

How the programme is taught
Every course balances theory and practice, with a significant share of teaching hours spent on practical and laboratory work so that you test what you learn in the field.
