You need a bachelor's degree from a university course lasting at least three years. [2]
- Foreign degrees: the 2024/25 course regulations admit to selection only applicants whose final grade is at least 80% of the maximum their university allows. UniGe's 2026/27 pre-evaluation listing for this course sets the minimum at 75%. [1][2]
- Italian degrees: a three-year degree in economics or business (class L-33 or L-18) meets the curricular rule. Other degrees need at least 40 ECTS across economics, business, maths, computing and statistics, including at least 9 in economics (SECS-P/01 to 06 and P/12), 6 in business and finance (SECS-P/07 to 11 and ING-IND/35), 9 in maths, computing or quantitative methods (SECS-S/06, MAT/01 to 09, INF/01 and ING-INF/05) and 6 in statistics (SECS-S/01 to 05). Italian graduates who miss one of these subject blocks take the admission test for that block. [1]

- a certificate from UniGe's language centre (CLAT);

UniGe's 2026/27 pre-evaluation page also accepts a certificate showing that English was the medium of instruction for your whole bachelor's. Interview or test
A committee checks that you know the fundamentals the course needs through a remote interview or test. If you do not pass, you cannot enrol, but you can repeat it until you do. [1][2] The programme page describes the course as open access subject to passing this test. [3]

These rules come from the 2024/25 course regulations, which do not set dates. [1] In the 2026/27 selection, visa applicants applied in UniGe's fall session and residents of Italy in a spring session. Documents and non-EU steps
Non-EU applicants living abroad with a non-Italian degree apply only through the UniGeApply portal, and UniGe's offices assess the documents. [1] In the 2026/27 selection you could apply for up to two courses, uploading a CV, your bachelor's degree certificate and your transcript. This course asked for no extra mandatory documents. The outcome arrives by email within a few weeks to two months. [2]

About the programme
Economics & Data Science is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-56) worth 120 ECTS, run by the Department of Economics at its Darsena site on Via Vivaldi in Genoa. It is taught in English and in person under course code 11937, which follows the earlier code 11267.

Fees and scholarships
UniGe fees combine a €16 stamp duty, a regional tax starting at €120 and a university contribution set by ISEE-U; if your family income is abroad you use the ISEE-U parificato. For 2026/27 a full-time first-year student paid no contribution up to an ISEE-U of €13,000, and the ceiling was €3,025 or €3,300 a year depending on the subject area. ALiSEO grant winners pay only the stamp duty, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
This course takes applicants with a foreign degree only through UniGeApply. Your final degree grade must be at least 75% of your university's maximum under UniGe's 2026/27 listing for this course (the 2024/25 course regulations set 80%), and you need English at B2, shown by a certificate or a medium of instruction letter.
