Your degree fits directly if it is in one of these Italian classes, or is a foreign degree recognised as equivalent: L-1 Cultural heritage, L-10 Humanities, L-15 Tourism sciences, L-20 Communication sciences, L-31 Computer science and technology, or L-42 History. [1]
With a degree in any other field, you need at least 42 CFU in these subject areas: [1]
- Computing and formal subjects: computer science, information processing systems, mathematical logic and statistics.
- Law: commercial law and administrative law.
- History, geography and archaeology: Greek and Roman history, papyrology, ancient topography, archaeological research methods, medieval, modern and contemporary history, archival and library studies, palaeography and geography.
- Art and media: medieval, modern and contemporary art history, and cinema, photography and television.
- Languages, literature and philosophy: Greek and Latin language and literature, classical, Romance and Italian philology, Italian literature and linguistics, literary criticism and comparative literature, glottology and linguistics, logic and philosophy of science, and philosophy of language.
Ca' Foscari's admissions portal also asks for a CGPA of at least 73%, with grades on other scales converted to a percentage. [2]
If you do not meet the credit rule, you must make up the missing credits before enrolment, only by passing single bachelor-level courses at Ca' Foscari or another university. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and the committee looks at your subjects, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Sc. in Computer Science, a BCA, or a BA in History, Archaeology, Mass Communication, Journalism or Tourism, since these match the listed degree classes. A B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science or IT usually reaches 42 credits in computing subjects.
- Check carefully: a BA in English, another language or Philosophy, or a B.Sc. in Mathematics or Statistics. The rule lists linguistics, logic, statistics and philosophy of language, but not every literature, philosophy or maths course, so your subject mix decides.
- Often short: a B.Com, a BBA, a B.Sc. in Biology or Chemistry, or a B.Tech in Mechanical or Civil Engineering. Statistics and commercial law count, but these degrees rarely reach 42 credits in the listed areas.
