Genoa's Computer Engineering master asks for a bachelor's degree with at least 36 ECTS in basic and 42 ECTS in core subjects of Italian information engineering and computer science degrees, English at B2, and at least 85 of 110 points in a review of your file. The credit rule

You need a bachelor's degree or a recognised foreign equivalent, and all of these, without exception: [1]

• At least 36 ECTS in basic subjects: the subject sectors set for basic activities in Italian degrees in information engineering (class L-8) and computer science and technologies (class L-31).
• At least 42 ECTS in core subjects: the subject sectors set for core activities in the same two classes.

For degrees from abroad, the degree board compares the courses you passed with these subject areas, using your degree certificate and transcript. It can also take into account extracurricular exams, internships and work experience. [1]

What this means for your transcript

Italian ECTS and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and Genoa compares your subjects, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science, IT or Electronics and Communication, or a B.Sc. in Computer Science, since these are close to Italian information engineering and computer science degrees.
• Check carefully: a BCA, a B.Sc. IT, or a B.Tech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. They may cover the 36 basic and 42 core credits, but the share of computing, automation, maths and physics also sets your relevance score.
• Often short: a B.Com, BBA or BA, where few subjects fall in these areas.

In the admission score, a degree with at least 45% of its credits in computer science, automation, maths and physics gets the full relevance points. Degrees with fewer than six semesters of university study are not considered for those points. [1]

English

English at CEFR level B2 or higher, shown in one of these ways: [1]

• A certificate at the level set on the university's list of recognised certificates.
• A bachelor's degree taught in English, shown by an official document or a letter from your university.
• A bachelor's degree that included a B2 English exam, shown on your official exam list or syllabus.
• Passing the B2 test run by the Polytechnic School.

The regulations do not list specific test scores. In the 2026/27 UniGeApply selection, a B2 certificate or a medium of instruction certificate was accepted, and Italian was not required. [2] If your degree is from outside Italy and you cannot show Italian, your study plan includes an Italian as a foreign language unit. [1]

Admission score

Italian graduates of these classes with a final grade of at least 9/10 of the maximum meet the preparation requirement automatically. Everyone else, including all applicants with a foreign degree, is scored by the programme's teaching committee from the documents submitted, and you need at least 85 points out of 110: [1]

• Academic potential, up to 50 points: 12.5 points plus 37.5/110 of your final grade or CGPA converted to a scale of 110, multiplied by a coefficient. The coefficient is 1 for degrees from Italy or the EU; for other degrees, the programme's internationalisation committee sets it between 0 and 1.
• Relevance of your degree, up to 30 points: 30 if at least 45% of your credits are in computer science, automation, maths and physics, 20 for 40% to 44%, and 15 for 30% to 39%.
• Ranking of your university, up to 20 points: Italian universities get 20. Foreign universities are scored on the Webometrics world ranking: 20 points up to position 500, 18 for 501 to 1,000, 15 for 1,001 to 1,500, 11 for 1,501 to 2,000, 6 for 2,001 to 2,500, and 0 below that or if unlisted.
• CV, up to 10 points: further qualifications, work experience, certified professional qualifications and similar.

English is assessed as a pass or fail. [1] For 2026/27, the visa applicant selection also set a minimum CGPA of 75% for this programme, with no remote interview or test. [2]

2026/27 deadlines

For 2026/27, non-EU visa applicants applied on UniGeApply from 26 November 2025 to 20 March 2026, and outcomes were due by 22 May 2026. Accepted students then applied on Universitaly from 4 May to 19 June 2026. [3] Applicants still finishing their bachelor's could be admitted on condition of graduating by 15 August 2026. The UniGeApply pre-evaluation asks for: [2]

• Your CV.
• Your bachelor's degree certificate, final or provisional.
• Your transcript of records, with credits and grades.
• Your English B2 or medium of instruction certificate.
• If you have not graduated yet, a letter from your university with your expected degree date and your CGPA up to the latest semester.

The degree regulations also ask applicants with a foreign degree for a short description of their university, the syllabus of their courses and any Italian language certificate. [2][3] After a positive or conditional outcome, you apply on Universitaly, where you choose one university and one course, and then pre-enrol at UniGe for the same course. [3] Each year the degree board sets a number of places reserved for non-EU applicants who need a visa. [1]

What bachelor's degree do I need for Genoa's Computer Engineering master?
