Degree and grade rule

You need a bachelor's degree, a three-year university diploma or a pre-reform five-year degree, with a final mark of at least 95/110. For degrees obtained abroad, you need at least 86% of the maximum score in your university's system, or a place in the top 30% of your reference class. [1]

You also need suitable knowledge of maths, computer science, statistics, physics and chemistry, and of the engineering subjects that prepare for the degree. [1]

• Counted as consistent automatically: bachelor's degrees in Mechanical, Vehicle, Aerospace, Naval, Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering.
• Other degrees: a dedicated board reviews your academic career, using your transcript and a description of the topics covered in each course.

What this means for your transcript

On a 10-point CGPA scale, 86% of the maximum is 8.6. If your CGPA is lower, the alternative is a declaration from your university that your final grade is in the top 30% of your class. As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Automobile, Aerospace or Aeronautical, Mechatronics, Naval Architecture or Industrial and Production Engineering.
• Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electrical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Computer Science or Civil Engineering. These are reviewed by the board, which looks for maths, physics, chemistry and preparatory engineering subjects in your course topics.
• Often short: a BCA, or a B.Sc. in Physics, Maths or Computer Science, usually lacks the engineering subjects the rule asks for.

English

English at B2 or higher, enough to follow classes and read technical texts, shown by one of: [1]

• An international certificate on Unimore's list of recognised certifications
• University English exams at B2, documented by a certificate from your university
• Proof that your degree was taught in English
• Coming from an English mother-tongue country

The call does not list specific test scores. Without suitable proof, you can apply first and then take a remote B2 test with Unimore's Language Centre. The certificate must be added to your application before the deadline. [1]

Selection and ranking

There is no written test. The board ranks applicants out of 100 on three elements, taking your curriculum preferences into account. Ties go to the younger candidate. [1]

• Previous career: your academic record
• Related experience: student mobility such as Erasmus+, Learning by Doing projects such as Formula Student, Formula SAE or Motostudent, or a curricular internship in a related field
• Self-presentation video: 90 seconds, recorded as the call sets out, with a minimum score of 6 out of 10

For 2026/27, international students needing a visa applied on Esse3 from 19 January 2026 to 23 March 2026 at 3:00 pm (CET). The ranking was published by 12 April 2026. [1]

Admitted students pre-enrolled on Esse3 by 4 May 2026 at 3:00 pm (CET). The ER.GO benefits application was due by the end of August 2026. The 2027/28 call will set new dates. [1]

The application must include, in Italian or English: [1]

• Your degree certificate with the final grade
• A certificate of the minimum and maximum grades in your university's system
• A declaration that you are in the top 30% of your class, unless your grade is at least 86% of the maximum
• Your English certificate and a valid ID
• Your transcript of records
• A list of the topics covered in each course, if your degree is not in Mechanical, Vehicle, Aerospace, Naval, Mechatronics or Industrial Engineering
• Certificates for any mobility, Learning by Doing project or curricular internship
• Appendices A and B of the call, and the 90-second video, shared as Appendix C describes

Admitted candidates receive a certificate of eligibility for the Italian embassy or consulate, then complete Universitaly pre-enrolment with a passport photo and ID. A declaration of value or an ENIC-NARIC statement, such as a CIMEA statement of comparability, can be attached. If the visa is refused, the deposit is refunded, net of transfer fees. [1]
