School-leaving qualification
You need an upper secondary school-leaving diploma. For 2026/27 the call accepted a diploma already obtained or to be obtained in 2026, so students in their final school year could apply. [1]
If your diploma comes from a foreign school system, you enrol with the documents Sapienza lists for bachelor's degrees, and its international students' office checks them. It can ask for further documents, or refuse enrolment if the requirements are not met. [1]
What this means for your school results
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: Class 12 or Higher Secondary results that include mathematics and science, or A levels including mathematics. These subjects match what the CEnT-S tests: mathematics, reasoning on texts and data, biology, chemistry and physics.
- Check carefully: results still pending in your final school year. You can sit the CEnT-S from the fourth year of upper secondary school, but your diploma is part of the enrolment documents.
- Often short: Class 12 without mathematics. The call sets no list of school subjects, but a CEnT-S score below 18 or a SAT below 800 out of 1600 adds a mathematics requirement (OFA) that you must clear in your first year.

You do not need a certificate if you are a native English speaker, hold an IB Diploma, a General Certificate of Education (GCE) or an equivalent, hold a diploma or degree taught in English from an accredited institution in the EU, EEA or Schengen area, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States or another country on the university's list, or hold a diploma or degree from an accredited institution where English is the main language of instruction. Entrance test: CEnT-S or SAT
For 2026/27 you had to take one of two tests by 29 October 2026: [1]
- CEnT-S (CISIA English Test, Sciences), in a test room or online from home (@CASA), taken from November 2025 onwards. You must complete all five sections: mathematics (15 questions), reasoning on texts and data (15), biology (10), chemistry (10) and physics (5). You can sit it once per test period.
- SAT General Test, taken from 1 January 2023 onwards at any SAT centre. Scores go to Sapienza through the College Board (institution code 9038), and the highest score received by 29 October 2026 counts.
The call does not set a pass mark or a ranking for admission. Your score decides whether you start with an additional mathematics requirement (OFA): it applies below a normalised CEnT-S score of 18 or a SAT score of 800 out of 1600. You clear the OFA by passing the OFA test or the Analysis I and II exam within the first year; otherwise you repeat the first year. The faculty runs mathematics support courses in English. [1]
2026/27 deadlines
- 15 May 2026: MoveIn pre-selection for non-EU applicants who live abroad and need a student visa.
- 30 June 2026: Universitaly pre-enrolment for the student visa.
- 2 July to 29 October 2026: Infostud registration (code 33482).
- 29 October 2026: last date to take the CEnT-S or SAT, and for SAT scores to reach Sapienza.
- 1 September to 5 November 2026: payment of the first fee instalment, which completes enrolment.

Non-EU applicants living abroad
If you are a non-EU citizen who lives abroad and needs a student visa, you also need: [1]
- A pre-acceptance letter, downloaded after a successful pre-selection on the QS MoveIn platform and acceptance of the offer there.
- Universitaly pre-enrolment for a student visa. It is mandatory for the visa, but it does not by itself secure admission.
Pre-acceptance does not give a right to a visa. To enrol, holders of foreign school qualifications send the documents Sapienza lists to its international students' office, then pay the first fee instalment by the enrolment deadline. [1]

About the programme
Sustainable Building Engineering (Ingegneria per l'Edilizia Sostenibile) is a three-year bachelor's degree in class L-23, building engineering, worth 180 ECTS and taught in English. It is run by the Department of Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering, and classes take place in person at Sapienza's Rieti campus, Palazzo Aluffi, Via Cintia 106.
The degree aims to give students the knowledge and skills to secure a sustainable future for existing and new buildings, updating traditional civil engineering with a focus on sustainable development. Access is through an entrance test that checks your preparation. It suits school leavers with a good mathematics background who are interested in buildings, cities and the environment.

Students learn to design, plan and manage solutions for the territory and the built environment under sustainability principles: lower energy demand, passive design and sustainable architecture, recovery and reuse of building materials, longer building lifetimes, sustainable land use, less urban sprawl and urban renewal. How the programme is taught
All teaching is in person in Rieti; in 2026/27 first-semester lessons began on 28 September. New students draw up their study plan on Infostud (for 2026/27, from 15 September 2026 to 31 January 2027). Students whose test score is below the threshold must pass additional mathematics requirements (OFA) within the first year.
Career paths
The university frames the degree around the design, planning and management of sustainable solutions for buildings and the territory, updating traditional civil engineering skills. Those are the areas graduates prepare to work in, from building design and site management to environmental protection and urban renewal. Sapienza also teaches an English master's degree at the same campus, Environmental and Sustainable Building Engineering, for students who want to continue.
Fees and scholarships
Sapienza sets tuition by family income (ISEE). Students who declare income earned abroad and cannot provide an ISEE pay a fixed-rate enrolment fee that depends on their country of origin. [1] The regional scholarship body is DiSCo Lazio, and its scholarship winners also get a tuition waiver, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students. How to apply from outside the EU
The degree has its own call. Non-EU applicants who live abroad and need a student visa must pass Sapienza's pre-selection on the QS MoveIn platform and download a pre-acceptance letter. For 2026/27 the pre-selection deadline was 15 May 2026, followed by Universitaly pre-enrolment by 30 June 2026. Pre-acceptance does not by itself give a right to a visa. [1]
Applicants then register on Infostud (code 33482), which ran from 2 July to 29 October 2026 that year, and take the CEnT-S or SAT by 29 October 2026.
