The Bachelor in Nursing is a three-year, 180 ECTS degree (class L/SNT1) taught entirely in English by Sapienza University of Rome at Sant'Andrea University Hospital. About the programme
Nursing (Nursing, Infermieristica) is a three-year bachelor's degree in class L/SNT1, the nursing and midwifery professions, worth 180 ECTS. It is taught entirely in English at Sant'Andrea University Hospital in Rome, is run by the Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine, and is shared by Sapienza's three medical faculties. The degree qualifies graduates for the health profession of nurse.
It is a programme with a limited number of places and a strong international outlook, including Erasmus and links with foreign universities. It suits students who want to train as nurses in English and are ready for a large share of hospital-based practice.
What you will study
The first year covers the biological and human foundations of care, the second year nursing processes across clinical areas, and the third year critical care, evidence-based practice and nursing management. Units in the study plan include:

How the programme is taught
The course combines lectures, laboratory work and clinical internships, mainly at Sant'Andrea University Hospital and affiliated facilities, with particular weight on professional internships and clinical tutoring. Internships make up 60 ECTS: 13 in the first year, 23 in the second and 24 in the third. The third year also includes seminars, a professional laboratory, elective activities and a 7 ECTS final test.
Career paths
Graduates are responsible for general nursing care under Italian Ministerial Decree 739/1994: they identify the health needs of individuals and communities, plan, manage and evaluate nursing care, apply diagnostic and therapeutic prescriptions and work in multidisciplinary teams. They can work in:

- Community health services such as clinics, hospices and residential care
- Research institutes
- Independent practice, after registration with the nursing professional body
Fees and scholarships
Sapienza charges students with income abroad a flat yearly amount by country band, without an ISEE. Its latest published rules (2025/26) set €300 for Band A, which includes countries like India, Nigeria and Pakistan, €700 for Band B and €1,500 for Band C, in three instalments; the 2026/27 rules come after 30 September 2026. Students who win or qualify for a DiSCo Lazio grant pay €30.
How to apply from outside the EU
Nursing is not part of Sapienza's MoveIn pre-selection for English programmes. Entry is through the degree's admission test and ranking, under a call published on the degree page each year; for 2026/27 only one place was reserved for non-EU applicants living abroad, so competition for it is strong.
Visa applicants also complete Universitaly pre-enrolment and apply for a type D study visa. Sapienza accepts CIMEA statements, and qualifications from countries outside the ARDI database need a declaration of value.
