Ca' Foscari's Italian and Mediterranean Studies bachelor has open access with no entrance test. You need a secondary school qualification that gives access to university after at least 12 years of schooling, English at B2, and, as an international applicant, a positive preliminary evaluation of your qualification. School-leaving qualification

You need a secondary school qualification that gives access to university, or a foreign qualification that admits you to the same level of study in the country where you earned it, plus the general knowledge that secondary school provides. [1] Ca' Foscari asks international applicants for at least 12 years of schooling. Its country rules include: [4]

• India: 12 years, with a Class 12 (Standard XII) certificate such as the ISC, a Senior School Certificate, or a Higher Secondary or Intermediate certificate, and the mark sheet for at least the last year.
• Pakistan: 12 years, with the HSSC or Intermediate certificate.
• Bangladesh: 12 years, with the Higher Secondary Certificate at an average of at least second division.
• Sri Lanka: GCE Advanced Level with at least an S in three subjects and at least 30% in the Common General Test.
• Nepal: 12 years, with the School Leaving Certificate examination for Grades XI and XII.
• UK A levels: 13 years and three A levels at grade E or above. Because this degree has no entry test, all three must be relevant to it.

With only 10 or 11 years of schooling, you cover the gap with passed first or second-year university exams, a foundation course completed at an Italian university, or a one or two-year post-secondary qualification in a related subject. Ca' Foscari does not require a national university entrance exam, although non-EU applicants may be asked for proof of one for the visa. [4][5]

What this means for your school results

As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: a completed Class 12 from an Indian board, a Pakistani HSSC or Intermediate certificate, a Nepali Grade XII, or a Bangladeshi HSC at second division or above.
• Check carefully: Sri Lankan A level results with fewer than three S grades or a Common General Test below 30%, and UK A levels where any of the three subjects is not clearly relevant to the degree.
• Often short: a school-leaving qualification after only 10 or 11 years, unless you add the university or foundation study described above.

The regulations name no required school subjects or stream, and access is open, so there is no ranking on school marks. [1]

English

English at CEFR level B2 or above is an access requirement and is checked when you enrol. You show it with a certificate from Ca' Foscari's recognised list or through an exemption category. [1] The list includes IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72 (or 4 on the new scale for tests taken from 21 January 2026), PTE Academic 59, Cambridge First (FCE), Trinity ISE II and LanguageCert ESOL International Level 1. Certificates must have been obtained within the last five years. [7]

If the check is not positive, you are given an additional learning requirement (OFA) in English B2, to clear by 30 September of the year after you enrol. Until you clear it, you cannot take exams. For 2026/27 entrants, the date is 30 September 2027. [1][3]

Selection

The degree has open access, with no entrance test and no ranking. Non-EU students living abroad are admitted within the number of places set by the university. [1]

International applicants are assessed on their qualification and the entry requirements through a preliminary evaluation. Those accepted or conditionally accepted receive a letter of enrolment eligibility, but you must still meet every enrolment requirement and deadline. [3][5] Bachelor's applicants can expect an answer about six weeks after their round closes. [6]

2026/27 deadlines

These dates come from the 2026/27 rounds, which depend on citizenship. [5] For Group 1 countries, which include Sri Lanka, Nepal, the six Gulf countries, the UK, the US, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia, applications closed at 1 pm CET on the last day, with the €30 fee paid by 11:59 pm CET the day before: [6]

• Round 1: 17 December 2025 to 14 January 2026.
• Round 2: 4 February to 4 March 2026.
• Round 3: 25 March to 15 April 2026.
• Round 4: 29 April to 20 May 2026, only for degrees without an entry test, such as this one.

India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are not on the Group 1 list, so other rounds applied to them, and we check the rounds for your citizenship. Ca' Foscari's merit scholarships for high-achieving students could be requested only in rounds 1 and 2. [6]

Universitaly pre-enrolment for visa applicants closed on 30 September 2026, and the final enrolment deadline is 18 December 2026. [9] The 2027/28 rounds are not yet published, and the next call sets the new dates.

Documents and non-EU steps

You apply on Ca' Foscari's online application platform and pay a non-refundable €30 fee, which covers up to two programmes ranked by preference. You upload a valid ID document and your mark sheet. [5] The mark sheet or transcript for at least your last school year is mandatory, with an official English or Italian translation if needed. If you are still in your final year, you upload a provisional mark sheet and add the final one before the enrolment period ends. A missing mandatory document means the application is rejected. [4]

After the letter of enrolment eligibility come Universitaly pre-enrolment and the type D study visa. To enrol, you need your study visa, your school diploma and transcript with translations, and one of these: a CIMEA Statement of Comparability, a declaration of value from the Italian diplomatic mission, or an ARDI Statement of Correspondence with a CIMEA Statement of Verification. Ca' Foscari strongly recommends having it before you apply. [4][9]

What school results do I need for Italian and Mediterranean Studies at Ca' Foscari?

For 2026/27, rounds depended on citizenship. Group 1 countries, such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, the UAE, the UK and the US, could apply until 20 May 2026 for this degree. Can I apply before I finish Class 12?

Yes. If you are in your final school year, you apply with a provisional mark sheet and upload the final one before the enrolment period ends. You need your final school-leaving qualification to enrol. [4]

I studied Science or Commerce in Class 12. Can I apply?

The regulations and Ca' Foscari's rules for Indian Class 12 certificates do not name a required stream: you need general knowledge from secondary school and English at B2. UK A level students are different, because with no entry test all three A levels must be relevant to the degree. [1][4]

Do I need to speak Italian?

Not to get in. Teaching is in English. Non-Italian students who cannot show Italian at B1 when they enrol add a 3 ECTS Italian for foreigners activity and attend an Italian course at the university language centre. The first-year Italian course starts at A1. [1][2]

What careers does it lead to?

The regulations point to editorial work for publishers, magazines and digital platforms, content creation and digital storytelling for museums and cultural projects, cultural mediation in public and cultural bodies, and cultural and cooperation projects in the Euro-Mediterranean area. [1]
