You need an Italian five-year upper secondary diploma or a foreign school-leaving qualification recognised as suitable. [1] Univpm also asks bachelor's applicants to have completed at least 12 years of education. With only 11 years, you cannot enrol directly: you first need a Foundation Year, or at least one year completed at an accredited university or post-secondary institution abroad. [3]
The course expects a good grasp of the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, the ability to tackle problems logically, and the ability to use the main computer tools. [1]
What this means for your school results
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: Class 12 or Higher Secondary results in a science stream with physics, chemistry, maths or biology, or A levels in science subjects, after 12 or more years of schooling.
- Check carefully: Class 12 in commerce or humanities. It meets the length rule, but the course expects science fundamentals, so expect to work on biology, chemistry, physics and maths in the first year.
- Often short: a school system that ends after 11 years, or a Class 10 or O level certificate on its own.

Knowledge test and additional learning requirements
There is no selective entrance test. The department runs a non-selective knowledge test to check your starting preparation, and the result does not stop you enrolling. [1]
If the test shows gaps, you are given additional learning requirements (OFA) in subjects set each year in the admission call. You must clear them before you can enrol in the second year. Students who do not clear them in the first year can re-enrol in the first year the following year. [1]

About the programme
Environmental Sciences and Civil Protection is a three-year laurea in class L-32 (sciences and technologies for the environment and nature), worth 180 ECTS and taught entirely in English by the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences (DISVA) of Marche Polytechnic University in Ancona. [1][4]
It started in 2002/03 and was designed with local bodies including the Municipality of Falconara, the Marche regional environmental protection agency (ARPAM) and the Civil Protection Department at national and regional level.
The course pairs basic science with environmental topics such as ecosystems, global change, hydrogeological, seismic and volcanic hazards, pollution and monitoring, then adds civil protection training in forecasting, prevention and emergency management.

The early units build a base in maths and statistics, physics and chemistry, together with biology, ecology and the earth sciences: geology, oceanography, meteorology and climatology. Learning areas listed by the university include:

Electives build practical skills such as data processing, pollutant analysis, GIS applications, start-ups and business plans, health emergency response and workplace safety.

The degree has 20 exams, and attendance is compulsory only for the internship. The final exam is the discussion of a written report on a scientific article chosen from a department list, or on a topic or short experimental thesis agreed with a lecturer. [1]

Graduates take technical and operational roles in the public and private sectors, in environmental monitoring, environmental recovery and civil protection.

To keep the same amount later, you need 10 credits by 10 August for the second year, or 25 credits for later years. [3]
